bdo combat is gold, i love it.if u play a class enough the combos will just become muscle memory. im new and dnt play pvp yet but i must say the pve is also more than enough for me to not care about it for now.
im tired of having keys on a piano and learning the combo for the right song, they should just have 1 key that plays the right song cuz its annoying to hit the wrong keys - asmongold
I normally agree with asmond but the combos in my opinion are what made the game for me since launch, haven't played in years but the only reason I stayed as long as I did was because of the combat style

Asmon's biggest issue is that he tried to play Warrior instead of just picking Berserker and being able to spin to win like he enjoys in every game. I guarantee if he did that he would be still wanting to play all day long. I think a lot of people make that mistake of trying to pick a meta class or what they THINK is right, instead of just checking out how they all play and picking what looks the most fun to them. Easy way to get yourself to quit
His problem is that he has played a tab target MMO like WoW for so long that he doesn't like the idea of having to learn a new system in an MMO like BDO. BDO's combat is unique which is what sets it apart from the rest of the MMO genre and it seems like he was easily overwhelmed by that. He's a WoW boomer.
The issue is that the gameplay of a lot of the classes completely changes at awakening, but you have to spend dozens of hours to reach it. So you need to pick a class based on how it will play in the future and then play the game without that thing you want.
The guy explained the selling outfits in the most terrible way possible, he should have explained HOW MUCH it cost to give a beter reason why people say its not something many do.
@@Saa_la if a PEN Blackstar = 150B silver. 1 costume cost around 20$ (atleast in SEA server). and can be sell for around 600-700M (after central market tax). so you need to buy around 214 costume x 20$ = 4.280$. its not worth. for that much money, even for way more less than that, you can buy account that had ALL PEN 4 armor and all PEN 3 weapon. pretty much high end account

Man I love the keystrike system. I don't think it's "harder" (i'm generally pretty bad mechanically) but it's really the individual abilities that feel good and natural to hit. IMO give it a few hours to get used to and even if you're not doing all the animation cancels and combos, it's just a more intuitive way to play.
It's really well done. The fluidity of tying the movement direction to the ability's animation and motion and having similar abilities on similar buttons really solidifies the action as gameplay rather than numbers. I've always suffered hotbars in other MMOs because of a general lack of quality options in the genre, but BDO combat actually feels like you're controlling your character and executing actions because of the integrated mobility. Just a shame that content- and story-wise it doesn't have what I want.
just for a reference, that Greatsword he was talking about would take you 5weeks of max costume sales.... thats a $6,000 sword. ppl dont generally do that in the game.

@@benjamin5283if you are f2p and would never spend actual money for a skin, the p2w player selling the skin for silver allows you to get it. That money that was earned by selling the skin then gets spent on somebody who crafted the item you wanted. Which in turn the money earned from crafting gets spend on buying mats from other players, who in turn spend that money buying upgrades.

I know people, specially WoW players, love to have skills in slots and for all your info you can do that too in BDO. It's just that there are so many combos that it's not very optimal to have 20+ skills in-slot. Normally people puts the harder ones or the "main skills" in a slot and have 2-5 slot skills to help out when comboing.
5:41 I played WoW and other similar MMOs for 10 years before BDO. All using Ability bars in 1-9 and global cooldowns for things, I thought that was the best way and I would never like anything else. Now I've played BDO since near launch and cant stand normal ability bar GCD gameplay as much. The key combo system in BDO has even helped me in FF14 by binding certain abilities to (shift) + keys instead of numbers to have a broader range of keybinds to access whereas before I would only use 1-9 and Fkeys.
The people who actually p2w in BDO hire pilots to grind for them. The people who swipe in BDO are really just compulsive gamblers. They hit max gear, keep swiping, and keep enhancing even though they dont need it or the silver.

BDO has one of best comunity ive ever seen. Even GMs are soo fcking amazing. One of our beloved guildmates died on Covid and we had smthing like ingame ceremony for her with asistance of GMs. There was even memorial post on forums.
HOW MANY hours a day are you expecting someone to put in, to keep up with P2W option? The math works out to well more than 8 hours daily given how slowly you ramp up before you actually start making a Billion silver per day

the "p2w" part gets me every time you can't ignore the total cost for those 35 outfits a week. One weapon for just $6000 dollars. Yeah, everybody does that Nowadays in bdo, in therms of "p2w" you only have to concern about tent (permanent item), pets(also permanent) and maybe value package (but you can live without it if you organize your account and buy the 1 day package for free). Except for the tent, all of these itens you can obtain by just >playing< the game. They give maids, pets, value package for free every once in a while. Also, there's some quests where you can obtain some pets as well and recently they gave a tier 4 for pretty much everybody. (you'll only can use 5 pets max., so...). BDO has a lot to offer and yes, it can be overwhelming to learn. But surely is a great game to play, months if not years to spent in (which is a good thing for a MMORPG)
It's technically correct to say you can swipe your way to end game gear - but as you pointed out correctly, it is such a high cost, that this isn't a real option for most people. Currently the pearl shop has a deal for 6 premiume costumes being 30% off, you can buy 10 of those packages per week. You'd need 6 for the the weekly limit of selling 35 items, or 85 680 pearls aka ~ $8600. Per week. You'd get 29,4b per week like this. 4 weeks or $34 400 for a pen black star at 120b.

Asmon needs to hit reset on his brain and give actual BDO inputs a chance. It's SO good and worth investing time to get into the combat. It's not good in spite of the inputs, the inputs ARE why it's good.
@@BigBoyAdvance Its really not that different from other mmo. When you play wow or FF14, do you ever hotkey stuff to Shift + Button or Ctrl + Button? Those are the inputs you do in BDO, its nothing more than that. The flow system simply means some skills (like in FF14) work better in sequence than others. 99% of BDO attacks are from: lmb, rmb, Q, E or F while holding a direction or holding shift, its not rocket science. You never press Q and F together to do an attack, you also dont press any sequence of button to do one attack, its simply just sequencing your attack like in any other game. A very few skills can only be done in sequence, think about it like a finisher to an attack, but these finnishers can just be keybound to your hotbar and you can use them like a regular attack.
You miss the entire point of bdo inputs. Bdo inputs arent 1 2 3 4 5 because skills are cancelable and mouse moveable, which means the universal Cooldown between skills like in boomer mmos cant exist, you gotta be fast on your fingers. Im not surprised about asmons opinion, its fine to like hotbat gameplay more than actual inputs when you are 35 yo.

just the start or end of most combos requires pressing and holding Down + Mouse1 + Mouse2 ... it's especially straining if your forward & back keys are on your MMO-mouse and many people just MACRO their way around the stupid pointless combos and Shoryu's despite the EULA claiming it's a ban-worthy offense (just don't get caught, duh)
I really hope he takes some time, maybe off stream, to just sit down and actually get into the combat of the game, i think he would really like the feel of warrior, it's such a cool class
It looks cool. I played it for about 10 hours and was overwhelmed by all the systems and inventory and such and quit. If they refine it to make it a little more new player friendly I will definitely play it again but there's too much to learn all at once IMO.
I'm glad they added dungeons and i hope they expand on them. I never cared to get into black desert knowing the pve endgame is to grind brainless mobs to get silver to roll for better gear to grind the same brainless mobs faster to get gear to grind the sam-
Asmon's statement about how the majority don't care about PvP rings true for Black Desert. The majority of players don't care about the PvP and everyone knows it's very poorly balanced; the class you play matters a lot. Even in the so-called equalised gear 3v3 PvP mode, the class you play matters since some just perform better at that gear level.

For about 4yrs Elder Scrolls Online PvP was awesome . I ran with 3 - 60 man guilds, competitive as hell... of course they ruined it trying to find "balance" and catering to "kite streamer run away then turn around builds" but it was great

If you've never experienced staying alive for hours killing hundreds of people who can't fight without standing in siege then you've never truly experienced cyrodiil. Once they dropped the groups size from 24 to 12 nobody should be complaining about groups. Guilds like yours just have a skill issue.

Besides the best balls never ran with 24 players so it didnt hurt them at all. Zerg busting as a ballgroup is easy as fuck. Only skillful thing is fighting other ballgroups, but even that takes ages since people in balls are so insanely tanky. 1vX has pretty much been killed too and only insanely good players are able to pull it off vs actual potatoes, let alone decent players.
theres a subset of people (me included) that just play competitive games like league csgo overwatch etc. and me and my friends always get hung up on the pvp modes in mmos its like being a recovering addict and they drip feed you a bit of that good shit.
I respect Asmon's opinion on the combo system but to be fair it's the BDO trademark. You remove that and it's not BDO for me. Everyone that plays BDO plays it for the combat system and those who say otherwise are high. So I just find his opinion calling it "stupid" kinda flat. And the combos in general are not that hard and you can get up and running with a character pretty fast. Not to say that you will spend a LOT of time doing those combos so you will learn them by inertia at some point :P

Day 15 : i have acquired a dandelion awakening weapon after getting trashed by the flying chicken. Haven't equipped it since i still haven't graduated. Having some problems, need to grind from 57 to 61.
The one thing that keeps making me quit BDO is the fact that the weight and inventory slots is per character instead of per account. Or at least let me tag them along with my items.
We need game with graphics and combat like bdo, but everything else like WoW or TES:O and microtransaction system like Warframe. Developers of such a game would be praised and respected.
The combos in BDO are like mortal combat, tekken and other fighting games, imagine those game instead of combo just key binds tho I think theres already a keybinds or skill slot(1,2,3 so on) in BDO, but insufficient than doing combos where you can animation cancel my thoughts
SF6 already has modern controls and DBFZ also has auto combo. Overall it's a great addition to have simple combos for new players to get them hooked. Once they hit the wall where it's not enough then they can freely switch to classic controls for more power. Same reason as to why automatic cars sells almost twice as much as manual cars despite the disadvantages, its just easier. Players will play the game to have fun and devs should lower the hurdle of entry to invite more players, especially for MMOs. An MMO isnt an MMO if there's no population

Don't get too excited. The "houses" are cookie cutter and the maids aren't customized and are basically incorporeal. FFXIV would be S tier and ESO would be A tier. BDO would be D tier at best as far as housing goes in a game.
19:00 The streamer Choice did a video series where he grinded to endgame gear in under 2 months and part of that was also getting all the pearl items you really should get and he paid $60 and had everything he'd ever want. I would really recommend that series for any new player that has already settled on BDO and gotten the gist of it and is now thinking of grinding to endgame gear. If you ever want to P2W to actually buy gear with real money, you will have to spend thousands.

My main problem with BDO is that it doesnt have that "soul" that for example ESO or WOW has. I would love the game to have its own "personality" but its only my opinion. The game UI is kinda confusing like wtf is going on. After a time yeah you get into it, but the new player experience is being overwhelmed most of the time.

Half baked my ass. This game is built off the competitiveness. The majority of content is focused around that and the gearing is just a progression step towards it (sometimes you don't even need to gear). I get what you and him mean by RPGs focusing on pvp being bad, but that's because the games you're playing are just bad and not built for it. How the hell do you balance pvp when there are 8 classes with 8 skills each that all do different things? You don't. There's always a clear winner or two. It's as simple as this. Asmon hates the game because he picked a class that's high apm and pretty difficult (thinking it would be easy), complained about comboing but never truly took the time to learn it, and then disses the combat and pvp because he couldn't understand it.

This game sucks. I bought the best founders pack because I have decent money and like supporting games that push the industry forward. Sometimes I buy founders packs for games I don't even plan to play because I like the developers. I took a break and came back from a deployment to find everything deleted because there was a four month window to transfer your account after the new acquisition. When I contacted them about it they basically said there was nothing they could do.

You do need to invest a lot of time grinding. It is likely 500-1000 hours grinding to get you there, so 10-20 hours a week.

That’s crazy combos are what makes bdo so fun. Oldschool Warrior pvp went hard. Still have the muscle memory even though I quit so long ago

I know people, specially WoW players, love to have skills in slots and for all your info you can do that too in BDO. It's just that there are so many combos that it's not very optimal to have 20+ skills in-slot. Normally people puts the harder ones or the "main skills" in a slot and have 2-5 slot skills to help out when comboing.
5:41 I played WoW and other similar MMOs for 10 years before BDO. All using Ability bars in 1-9 and global cooldowns for things, I thought that was the best way and I would never like anything else. Now I've played BDO since near launch and cant stand normal ability bar GCD gameplay as much. The key combo system in BDO has even helped me in FF14 by binding certain abilities to (shift) + keys instead of numbers to have a broader range of keybinds to access whereas before I would only use 1-9 and Fkeys.
Sounds like, the "best" players will run a auto hot key script just to spam faster lol

The people who actually p2w in BDO hire pilots to grind for them. The people who swipe in BDO are really just compulsive gamblers. They hit max gear, keep swiping, and keep enhancing even though they dont need it or the silver.

BDO has one of best comunity ive ever seen. Even GMs are soo fcking amazing. One of our beloved guildmates died on Covid and we had smthing like ingame ceremony for her with asistance of GMs. There was even memorial post on forums.

Nowadays in bdo, in therms of "p2w" you only have to concern about tent (permanent item), pets(also permanent) and maybe value package (but you can live without it if you organize your account and buy the 1 day package for free). Except for the tent, all of these itens you can obtain by just >playing< the game. They give maids, pets, value package for free every once in a while. Also, there's some quests where you can obtain some pets as well and recently they gave a tier 4 for pretty much everybody. (you'll only can use 5 pets max., so...).
BDO has a lot to offer and yes, it can be overwhelming to learn. But surely is a great game to play, months if not years to spent in (which is a good thing for a MMORPG)
It's technically correct to say you can swipe your way to end game gear - but as you pointed out correctly, it is such a high cost, that this isn't a real option for most people. Currently the pearl shop has a deal for 6 premiume costumes being 30% off, you can buy 10 of those packages per week. You'd need 6 for the the weekly limit of selling 35 items, or 85 680 pearls aka ~ $8600. Per week. You'd get 29,4b per week like this. 4 weeks or $34 400 for a pen black star at 120b.

Asmon needs to hit reset on his brain and give actual BDO inputs a chance. It's SO good and worth investing time to get into the combat. It's not good in spite of the inputs, the inputs ARE why it's good.
@@BigBoyAdvance Its really not that different from other mmo. When you play wow or FF14, do you ever hotkey stuff to Shift + Button or Ctrl + Button? Those are the inputs you do in BDO, its nothing more than that. The flow system simply means some skills (like in FF14) work better in sequence than others.
99% of BDO attacks are from: lmb, rmb, Q, E or F while holding a direction or holding shift, its not rocket science. You never press Q and F together to do an attack, you also dont press any sequence of button to do one attack, its simply just sequencing your attack like in any other game.
A very few skills can only be done in sequence, think about it like a finisher to an attack, but these finnishers can just be keybound to your hotbar and you can use them like a regular attack.
You miss the entire point of bdo inputs. Bdo inputs arent 1 2 3 4 5 because skills are cancelable and mouse moveable, which means the universal Cooldown between skills like in boomer mmos cant exist, you gotta be fast on your fingers. Im not surprised about asmons opinion, its fine to like hotbat gameplay more than actual inputs when you are 35 yo.

just the start or end of most combos requires pressing and holding Down + Mouse1 + Mouse2 ... it's especially straining if your forward & back keys are on your MMO-mouse and many people just MACRO their way around the stupid pointless combos and Shoryu's despite the EULA claiming it's a ban-worthy offense (just don't get caught, duh)
I really hope he takes some time, maybe off stream, to just sit down and actually get into the combat of the game, i think he would really like the feel of warrior, it's such a cool class
It looks cool. I played it for about 10 hours and was overwhelmed by all the systems and inventory and such and quit. If they refine it to make it a little more new player friendly I will definitely play it again but there's too much to learn all at once IMO.

Asmon's statement about how the majority don't care about PvP rings true for Black Desert. The majority of players don't care about the PvP and everyone knows it's very poorly balanced; the class you play matters a lot. Even in the so-called equalised gear 3v3 PvP mode, the class you play matters since some just perform better at that gear level.

For about 4yrs Elder Scrolls Online PvP was awesome . I ran with 3 - 60 man guilds, competitive as hell... of course they ruined it trying to find "balance" and catering to "kite streamer run away then turn around builds" but it was great
How the hell are 12 people supposed to kill 40 player being dumped by 12 cold fires without kiting? If you've never experienced staying alive for hours killing hundreds of people who can't fight without standing in siege then you've never truly experienced cyrodiil. Once they dropped the groups size from 24 to 12 nobody should be complaining about groups. Guilds like yours just have a skill issue.

Besides the best balls never ran with 24 players so it didnt hurt them at all. Zerg busting as a ballgroup is easy as fuck. Only skillful thing is fighting other ballgroups, but even that takes ages since people in balls are so insanely tanky. 1vX has pretty much been killed too and only insanely good players are able to pull it off vs actual potatoes, let alone decent players.
theres a subset of people (me included) that just play competitive games like league csgo overwatch etc. and me and my friends always get hung up on the pvp modes in mmos its like being a recovering addict and they drip feed you a bit of that good shit.

I respect Asmon's opinion on the combo system but to be fair it's the BDO trademark. You remove that and it's not BDO for me. Everyone that plays BDO plays it for the combat system and those who say otherwise are high. So I just find his opinion calling it "stupid" kinda flat. And the combos in general are not that hard and you can get up and running with a character pretty fast. Not to say that you will spend a LOT of time doing those combos so you will learn them by inertia at some point :P

Day 15 : i have acquired a dandelion awakening weapon after getting trashed by the flying chicken. Haven't equipped it since i still haven't graduated. Having some problems, need to grind from 57 to 61.
The one thing that keeps making me quit BDO is the fact that the weight and inventory slots is per character instead of per account. Or at least let me tag them along with my items.

SF6 already has modern controls and DBFZ also has auto combo. Overall it's a great addition to have simple combos for new players to get them hooked. Once they hit the wall where it's not enough then they can freely switch to classic controls for more power. Same reason as to why automatic cars sells almost twice as much as manual cars despite the disadvantages, its just easier. Players will play the game to have fun and devs should lower the hurdle of entry to invite more players, especially for MMOs. An MMO isnt an MMO if there's no population
Huh? The combos are kinda similar, but do realize BDO has the most basic combo system. It would be a unfair comparison to actual fighting games that have actual depth and a laundry list of moves for most of their character roster...

Don't get too excited. The "houses" are cookie cutter and the maids aren't customized and are basically incorporeal. FFXIV would be S tier and ESO would be A tier. BDO would be D tier at best as far as housing goes in a game.
19:00 The streamer Choice did a video series where he grinded to endgame gear in under 2 months and part of that was also getting all the pearl items you really should get and he paid $60 and had everything he'd ever want. I would really recommend that series for any new player that has already settled on BDO and gotten the gist of it and is now thinking of grinding to endgame gear. If you ever want to P2W to actually buy gear with real money, you will have to spend thousands.

My main problem with BDO is that it doesnt have that "soul" that for example ESO or WOW has. I would love the game to have its own "personality" but its only my opinion. The game UI is kinda confusing like wtf is going on. After a time yeah you get into it, but the new player experience is being overwhelmed most of the time.

I love competitive games that are designed to be competitive, not RPGs with competitive aspects half baked into them.
Half baked my ass. This game is built off the competitiveness. The majority of content is focused around that and the gearing is just a progression step towards it (sometimes you don't even need to gear). I get what you and him mean by RPGs focusing on pvp being bad, but that's because the games you're playing are just bad and not built for it. How the hell do you balance pvp when there are 8 classes with 8 skills each that all do different things? You don't. There's always a clear winner or two.
It's as simple as this. Asmon hates the game because he picked a class that's high apm and pretty difficult (thinking it would be easy), complained about comboing but never truly took the time to learn it, and then disses the combat and pvp because he couldn't understand it.

This game sucks. I bought the best founders pack because I have decent money and like supporting games that push the industry forward. Sometimes I buy founders packs for games I don't even plan to play because I like the developers. I took a break and came back from a deployment to find everything deleted because there was a four month window to transfer your account after the new acquisition. When I contacted them about it they basically said there was nothing they could do.
