Thank you for this discussion. I confronted my parents (boomers) regarding sin against my wife and I. As expected, they turned it around and accused me of rebelling. I have forgiven their sins against us and am willing to have a relationship with them, however they still view me as a rebel of sorts. It’s another example of boomers expecting their due honor without giving honor to their fathers and to their sons.
I remember having a discussion with someone in the early 1990s regarding the baby boom generation, saying "I think there will come a day when that generation will be viewed as the most destructive and self centered generation in history" I've always believed that most generations prior to it rebel for a reason, oppressive government, to obtain more "God given freedoms" but this generation always struck me as the generation that rebelled for the sake of rebellion. Rebellious against all forms of authority, be it rebellion against the principles that our government established or rebellious against the principles that the church embraced. Simply rebelled for nothing more than to be rebellious tossing aside the consequences of the tearing down the social norms our church and society has become dependent on. Now we're feeling the consequences of that rebellion, sex outside marriage was long considered unacceptable, but because we had the pill and abortion was available, the consequences of unplanned pregnancy was less of a concern it seemed to be an outdated tradition. But it was also damaging to relationships as well. Even feminists are beginning to understand the damage that their ideology has caused relationships.
The very term boomer is divisive. As an older person we never used such terms for our parents who were of the 2nd World War generation. Each generation has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and has been rebellious. This is true of young and old.
They talk about in the podcast that the boomer generation rebelled against their parents. Is that not divisive? Using a term isn't divisive in and of itself unless someone uses it like this: okay, boomer. Getting caught up on a term is a little soft.
@@JR-rs5qs Joel tends to go on long rants about boomers. He claims that there is only one "good" boomer (Doug Wilson) and completely trashes ALL of the other reformed pastors from that age group.

The authority is in the vote. If ya let em' vote on church matters then they are ruling. It is intellectually dishonest to then erect barriers in edification. On the other hand I don't see a requirement for ordination in the public reading of scripture, studying scripture corporately, prayer, or singing. If you took 'silent' literal you would require silence during song time. Women were generally not allowed to speak publicly or hold office in the Hebrew, Greek, and Roman world. Often it was forbidden by law. There is also more power in a mans deeper voice, which carries farther and clearer, which was very important when you don't have sound amplification.
I don't think that the church has ever prohibited women from singing in the worship services but until pretty recently in church history women not speaking in church services was taken pretty seriously
