James Arness stood at 6 feet 7 inches; he was basically one of the tallest men to ever appear in film. On the set of Gunsmoke, this man towered over everyone, yet many of his cast members often described him as a truly gentle giant.

I am 74 and grew up with Gunsmoke from its beginning. It was truly a loved series and all involved were looked upon most favorably. They were more like family and James the lead. Our tiny old black and white snowy screen never missed an episode.
Can’t stand these weird computer voices. Too many mistakes, too many mispronunciations. Factual mistakes as well. Turned it off half way through.

I believe they are using AI to create content. The mispronunciations are the clue, no live person would make those mistakes. It's easy to pick out once you listen for it.

AI will continue to improve so much no one will be able to tell what is real and what is not. Barring objections by their respective estates and the owners of the rights to their likenesses, we may soon see resurrections of many famous actors, especially those in the public domain. Consider the possibility that John Wayne, W.C. Fields, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, etc. might all be brought back to life. For the studios, deceased actors probably will work cheaply.

A contemporary of mine was given a "1-Y" deferment , due to being over 6'-6" tall, which kept him out of Viet Nam. Did height limitations exist during WW2? (Under 5' was also grounds for deferment) in Viet Nam).

The caption with the image on the video is misleading. The only good info I got from the entire video was dealing with Mr. Arness' service in World War 2 and the knowledge that Peter Graves is his brother, something I was not aware of beforehand.

Some good info, some erroneous info, computer voice is a joke and can't pronounce half the names right...and this implication somehow, that 'Matt Dillon hated Festus' is a joke, especially when about mid-point in this droning biography, tells of how certain people were well thought of and brought in to the 'world of Gunsmoke', such as Ken Curtis. HEADS UP...FESTUS' real name was Ken Curtis! He was from Southeast Colorado, and drew the inspiration for Festus from a man in his home town that cut Cedar wood for fences and homes! The harsh 'drawl accent' was even fake...Ken Curtis did NOT talk like this...but with an expected 'Colorado accent', barely discernible.

I thought it was pretty good but my parents and grandparents loved it! Most of the time, I fell asleep watching the show! Give me Gunsmoke reruns anytime! I think he was one of the fastest draws in Hollywood and he always looked like he disliked using his guns! Quite a few times, he lets his fists do the talking, he "beat up" Harold J. Stone so badly, he lost his edge as a gunfighter! Many great actors had parts on the show including Charles Bronson, Bill Anderson, Warren Oates, and even "the Skipper," Allen Hale!

While the narrative is informative about a beloved American actor, the hilarious imposition of so many unrelated video clips is just downright funny. Top Blunder are several brief glimpses of actor Matt Dillon, born in 1964 and having absolutely nothing to do with James Arness or the Gunsmoke series. Then there are numerous shots of actor Michael John Pollard and Fess Parker, in scenes with nothing to do with the subject. The teaser headline: James Arness Truly Hated Him. GOES.ABSOLUTELY.NOWHERE. It tails off into an unfounded rumor about Arness hating his brother, actor Peter Graves, which also appears to be untrue. What a cluster fuck!
