  • Lesson on Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (Warm, Cold, and Paroxysmal Cold Hemoglobinuria): Clinical features, Laboratory findings, Signs and Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment. Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia is one type of anaemia that is due to the production of autoantibodies against red blood cell membrane antigens. Each subtype of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia has a different type of autoantibody that is produced. Each of the subtypes of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia have different categories of causes, which we discuss in this lesson. These different types of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia have many clinical features in common including symptoms of anemia, and signs and symptoms of haemolysis. In this lesson, we also discuss how we make a diagnosis of these conditions and how we treat each of these conditions.

    At 4:12 you seem to have switched the description of intravascular and extravascular hemolysis. It is extravascular hemolysis that takes place in the liver and spleen. While intravascular hemolysis occurs in the blood vessels themselves.

    My dog has this, it’s called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia in veterinary medicine. She was diagnosed 9 months ago (and was in terrible crisis, almost died). In treatment since (medications) and doing reasonably well! Still sick, but surviving and happy

    When you indicate that Erythrocytes become warm or cold and trigger the IgG or IgM antibodies to bind to them, what causes that temperature factor to begin with? Are those some kind of extreme abnormal temp changes that are happening with the RBC's due to those various conditions you listed like the Lupus etc?

    Cold IHIA doesn't cause intravascular hemolysis???

    Great information! My 4 year old boy has microscopic blood in his urine for more than a year, under the microscop there are no RBC. This prompts me to look into intravascular hemolysis, though his CBC has been normal. Is there a chronic form of hemolysis that cause microscopic hemoglobinuria without other symptoms?

    There's a correction at 4:34, Cold AHA is extravascular (sequestered by liver and spleen), you made a typo (intravascular)

    • @Greanestbean
      @Greanestbean 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cold AHA is intravascular but he did mix up the description of what is intravascular. As you have correctly stated sequestered by liver and spleen is extravascular hemolysis which occurs in Warm AHA. While Cold AHA is preferentially intravascular.
