I’m loving these videos! They make me hopeful as I freeze here in Canada.

Glad you like them- we love gardening down here and sharing with others. We are from the north Georgia mountains, so we can relate to cold winters :)

That Monstera plant is so cool! Can you do an update on your staghorn fern? That thing was huge. How long did it take to grown that large? Great video!

The Staghorn fern was on the property when we purchased it so I have no idea how old it is. My guess would be 20+ years. I’ll try to remember to do an update vid on it- maybe we’ll propagate some cuttings from it as well!

You guys are so inspiring with your food forest approach. I cannot wait to own my own property to work on something like this, although they will be different plants because I am in the Northeast. I would love to grow a banana indoors to fruiting, I am just not sure. What variety would be best. I have very strong grow lights that I can place it under. Do you have a suggestion for your favorite dwarf variety for fruit?

Thank you! If I were you I would pick a dwarf Orinoco and a Mona Lisa. Both of these varieties grow fast and bear fruit in about 9 months! We grew bananas years ago up in Georgia and before it froze we would cut off all the leaves and dig them up. Then we would lay them on the ground in a dark area of our garage to hibernate. When we would replant them in the spring the would grow again right where they left off in the fall! We even got them to fruit for us with this method. I have also seen people grow banana stands successfully inside their greenhouses too with the natural light coming in-although grow lights I’m sure would be beneficial too! The dwarf Orinoco is great as a plantain and banana (but it’s kinda big) and the Mona Lisa bananas are a wonderful small sized eating banana. Nicks edibles on Facebook sells these varieties-I do believe he ships some plants also…not sure about bananas but I would ask him. We’ve gotten lots of great varieties from his nursery! We wish you all the best on finding a magical slice of paradise! You can grow so many things without a lot of space :-)

Wait how do you split the time between Georgia and Florida with the kids? I want to do something similar but it's easy now since I'm in my 20's... But IDK how it's possible when you have kids!

We homeschool- they attend a homeschool hybrid school in the GA mountains that is flexible with our traveling, and we do homeschooling activities with different groups down here in FL. It definitely takes a lot of effort to have friends, activities, etc in both places, but we love it!

OMG This is exactly what I want to do! Especially this day in age, there is no reason our kids can't do a more hybrid learning platform with some online while they travel and some in person. I had a good friend who did this for @@IslandsnHighlandsolympic skiing and he loved it. Do you guys have a video on how you make it work??
