- Kyiv has reportedly lost almost a fleet of its 'wonder weapons' amid war against Russia. According to a Business Insider report, Kyiv have lost most of its 'once-prized' Bayraktar TB2 drones. Ukraine is left with only a few units which are being used far from the battlefield. Before the war began, Ukraine used these Turkish drones to strike Donbas in violation of a ceasefire agreement. Russia claims to have destroyed over 100 Bayraktar drones in Ukraine. Watch this video for details.

i assume the sowjetunion won due to its 4-times bigger population and its vast ural industrial capacities (and the natural ressources) - their tactical / operational adaptive learning curve in ww2 was rather slow - but they had two-times lost their military backbone (stalins cleansing + early 1941 germans cauldrons)

Maybe that's why Russia never invested too much in drones except for kamikaze ones. Once defence systems are in place you are basically back to ground war and is problematic for NATO who invested mostly in air supremacy, which is impossible against Russia. So you will have to face your enemy with artillery like in the past. Also not only Bayraktars but also HIMARS systems are less effective now because of Russia jamming and air defence. Himars just became ordinary rockets that can't use GPS effectively. Not to mention that USA uses mostly GPS for their systems. There are only 24 GPS satellietes which can be shoot down if NATO attack, and then what are they gonna do?
To be fair if NATO attacks there will be a few thousand warheads heading to the NATO member states. They probably won't be worrying about their GPS going down.

Air supremacy is easy against russia, at least for NATO countries. The American air to air missiles are much smarter and longer range than russia's are. An F-22 or F-35 can lock onto a russian plane from beyond russian missile range, launch and land again before the missile takes out the russian plane. Further, the USA has a couple thousand long-duration drones that can carry racks of the same air-to-air missiles as the fighter jets can, and remotely take out whatever russia puts in the air. Also, as you can see, the Patriot system takes out anything and everything russia flies. It would take less than 24 hours for the USA or NATO to set up a No Fly Zone over Ukraine, and make it stick.

Western air supremacy is impossible against Russia? I don’t think so. Difficult? Yes. Casualties? Almost certainly. But not impossible. Russia does have some eye-blistering tech in key areas, but that’s the important distinction - it is only in key areas, rather than across the full spectrum of capabilities, that Russia might (and I stress “might”) have some sort of localised advantage. But with the West’s ability to fly suppression of enemy air defence missions, armed with loitering anti-radiation missiles, and especially the advantages of US stealth, those Russian defences are getting degraded over time before the heavy hitters (F-15, F-16, and F/A-18, etc.) fly through the breach and do the rest.

Turkey is currently finalising trade agreement with Russia and they gave tested S 400 air defense system. And S 400 is very effective and efficient.

Many of those drones were not "lost". Some were shot down, to be sure. But many were just moved back because Russia activated effective air defense systems. In the past 60 days, Ukraine has taken our much of this air defense system and the TB2s are showing up near the front again.

It would seem Turkey has a failsafe activated on its Bayractor drones...for so many to have problems..a failsafe would turn off or jam the signal to any drones in range or other type of RFI
There is only so much a limit amount of a specific drone can do before the enemy finds it and take care of it. They used it so aggressively; you shouldn't do that with this type of drone. It's a good drone, one of the best actually, sadly it was given to those who don't know how to tactically use it (Only the Azerbaijan and Turkish military knows how to use it from what I have seen so far)

This got to show the efficiency and efficacy of the Russian air defence systems.
Just because I’m the first days of the war the Ukrainians were ambushing the Russians off guard while the convoys are on the move without air defence coverage doesn’t mean these drones are wonder weapons.
It shows the complacency of the Russian commanders on the grounds their mistakes, mistakes they paid higher prices but once the Russians started to get their act together you can see they quickly neutralised these drones and the threats they pose.
Same thing will go to the F16 and any so-called wonder weapons from the west. The Russians will quickly neutralise them and the threats they pose.
The issues Russians are facing is that Ukrainian airspace is congested with with all kind of air targets. The Russians have to prioritise these air targets and take out the high value ones then they will establish air superiority over Ukrainian airspace.
The Russians are almost completed destroying the high value air targets over Ukrainian airspace before they can start establishing air superiority and this is what the so-called west realise they started to send F16 to keep the Russians busy destroying those air targets and delay their ability to establish air superiority so quickly over Ukrainian airspace but it is inevitable the Russians will do this perhaps by the end of this year or early next year.
This war is grinding war the Russians are grinding and squeezing everything out of the Ukrainians before they die off.

These drones were useful the first few months of the war. There was almost no Russian air defense in Ukraine as the armored columns rolled in. The TB2 helped stop the Russian army and stabilize battle lines. The $200 million for about 30 drones saved Ukraine from the initial attack. Now Ukraine and Turkey are joint developing a new stealth drone to fight in contested airspace.
