Many years ago my ex's uncle had a fire safety business and taught me about smacking extinguishers, using a dead blow hammer. I smack mine every few months. You can hear a subtle change in sound, as you say. I have 3 in the shop and one in the kitchen of the house. Got a buddy who lost a shop to a fire from a smoldering weld and I don't screw around with fire risks here. Good to share this with everyone, hopefully we don't hear of another friend's shop going up.

We hope for the best outcomes and a strong path forward for both Cliff and Vernon, they are both so nice. We use a smart house system; it covers the home the machine shop and the two outbuildings and then we have multiple commercial grade fire extinguishers (annual serviced) in labels cabinets strategically located around these work areas. Just thought we could share how these two guys sleep at night because there are two fire and water both would kill a watchmaker workshop in a heartbeat. Stay safe. Lance & Patrick.

Good one Doug . Looks like your ABC is the same as our ABE , white band . Every 6 months ours are turned & tapped . There is a canister expiry date as well , cant remember how many years they are good for . They also make good guards for a grinding machine when you cut the top off & the remaining cylinder makes a good oil quench tank ! 👍

Thanks for a great safety talk. In a plant where hydrocarbons are processed you cannot do maintenance work without a fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are dangerous in a kitchen as most people who are not trained are likely to spray a grease fire with one and blow the burning grease all over the place. I have gotten my wife used to putting a pan lid over a grease fire and it goes out without any problem. Not that she has one that often they are years in between but once you see how easy they are to extinguish the memory stays.

if used properly the ABC will put out a grease fire. the lid trick works but there is 100% chance youll burn your arm or drop the lid and turn the pan fire into a kitchen fire. thanks for the comment ,

Very good advice, with my shop attached to my house I’m always cautious and have them around. I also make a habit of staying out there a hour or so after any welding or cutting in case something is smoldering somewhere

    Hello Doug,
Good video and I really hope this helps some viewers... Seeing what happened to Vernon and Cliff is very sad...
    Take care.

Damn shame about Cliff. I haven't heard the verdict, but I thought I he had a lithium battery go chernobyl on him. That's right up there with a magnesium fire.
