Thanks for posting. I notice that the closed spiral opens up when I hammer. Is there a way to keep the spiral tight after hammering? ... or would that be impossible?

+Skylightatdusk yes because hammering spreads the wire it is also spreading the tension on the wire and the spiral opens. I have never tried but I imagine you can attempt to come in and hold it with your pliers and try to curl it back in after a few strikes with the hammer....ya know, try to "keep up" with the spreading. I'll post a picture of one eventually. they are starting to slowly but surely come together but I do appreciate the lesson that you taught it has made it just a little bit easier to figure out

Hi Emily, No fun! Marring happens. Especially when we are holding the wire super tight OR the pliers have ridges on the jaws. Make sure your pliers are smooth!
