I just realized why he was "Pyg", and the"Pig". He's taken his name after the Greek legend of Pygmalion, who was a sculptor so perfect he fell in love with his most beautiful statue, which a goddess made into a real person. The pig thing was just incidental.
Professor Pyg was also partly inspired by the play Pygmalion which became a musical film, "My Fair Lady". Pyg is like a deranged Henry Higgins and the Dollotrons are like mindless, robotic Eliza Dolittles. X)
I remember first playing this, thinking, "This is obviously Hush. Why bother being discreet?" It was a very pleasant surprise being proven wrong and being introduced to a new sadistic villain.

To an extent, that is probably because the Joker is more of a sociopath rather than a psychopath like Professor Pyg. From my understanding, a psychopath usually describes someone who is legitimately lost in their own reality and cannot think morally/rationally, such as Norman Bates. It is the equivalent of a man actually thinking 1 + 1 = 3. Because they have their own reality to naturally hide away in, I heard a psychopath can be better at appearing outwardly normal to people and concealing their demented side until it has an opportunity to show itself. A sociopath can behave in similarly anti-social and grotesque ways, but it is more motivated by a craving for violence and lack empathy towards other human beings, because they suppress their emotions and/or literally do not feel any. Their ability to think logically and make calculated decisions is still functioning properly. With that analogy of math, a sociopath would be like someone who knows full well that 1 + 1 = 2, but simply does not care about following the rules. The Joker is a violent and sadistic serial killer, but aside from having trouble remembering his own past, he is still technically sane and only feigns insanity to avoid being put on death row. His main motivation is his obsession with becoming infamous and proving his nihilistic philosophy, with no remorse how many people he kills or how brutally in order to accomplish his goal. He admits many times to Batman that he knows how monstrous his actions are, unlike Pyg who has no concept of right and wrong to begin with. *EDIT: A few months after posting this, I looked the terms up more, and it seems I have confused the terms “psychopath” and “psychotic”. Apparently, the latter is when a person has bouts of psychosis and cannot think rationally at times, while psychopath implies that a person can still make properly calculated decisions and understand reality just fine, but still is potentially prone to lack of empathy towards others, anti-social behaviors, and/or abusive tendencies. Sociopath usually refers to people who behave that way mainly due to environmental upbringing and/or life choices, while people use psychopath to describe scenarios when the most likely contributing factor is genetics/psychology (such as a region of the person’s brain that aids in empathy being underdeveloped).*
Batman has no shortage of deadly enemies, many of whom are incredibly weird or have disturbing obsessions, but this guy is *horrifying.* Even Joker's Ghost admits he's a lunatic.
One thing I noticed after playing through the game and looking at the John Doe's, as they're called. If you analyze them in detective mode in the GCPD prison cells, they're constantly terrified. Not calm. Not distressed. Not agitated. Terrified. They're basically living in constant terror as they're standing there. And when you take into account all the mutilation that Valentin did, it kinda of helps settles in how disturbing this shit really is.

This is definitely my favorite side mission I love how it has a perfect blend of detective work in finding out who mutilated and murder these innocent people and then finding out they were turned into monsters by a madman. Ending it all with an amazing boss fight.
Harvey Wroot joker isn’t so deranged, but he’s definitely insane. Unrepentant homicidal maniac? Yes. Anywhere near as deranged as Pyg? No. He’s just happy in chaos. Meanwhile, Pyg mutliates and kills people for reasons of “perfection.”

I just noticed something: As you identify each victim, when you begin scanning the next one the initial number of missing persons decreases by one. Now that's attention to detail.
That’s the idea, you see the victim had a tattoo removal, then the missing persons database filters through any missing people who had a tattoo removed. Go on with other noticeable features until there’s only one person the victim could be.
The most terrifying monsters aren't the ones of our own creation. No, then at least we can give them weaknesses. The scariest monsters are the ones that look like us. Killer Croc? Just electrocute him. Joker? Bitch, please, the Batman's been kicking his ass since 1941. Scarecrow? He's a guy with a bag on his head and some trippy drugs. (Well, this time he's upped the ante, but Batman's defeated him dozens of times before.) But what they all have in common is that they don't look like regular people. That's what makes villains like Zsasz and Pyg so scary.

These have always been my favorite parts of the “Arkham” games. Setting up crime scenes, scanning tissue, rebuilding events. Really put you into the detective side of Batman.

Maybe because pyg seems to hit on the most horrifying aspects of villains. He’s a real person like Bruce but kills for pleasure and perfection. He’s like some real life killers who perform horrible acts on people. Meanwhile most other batman villains, while incredibly messed up, have plenty of aspects that distinguish them as less horrifying because of the unrealistic things that make them villains
You know, I give the ESRB a lot of crap about giving this game an M-rating, but after playing through these side missions, I think they had a pretty legitimate reason.
“It brings to mind a spate of murders at the beginning of your career. It was Halloween then if I’m not mistaken, turned out to be rather a long one at that.” I absolutely love that Long Halloween reference and how it confirms the events of that story happened in the Arkhamverse.
A lot of comic book stories happened in the Arkhamverse. Here's the ones I know of. The Long Halloween (obviously). The Killing Joke (modified). Knightfall (modified). A Death in the Family. One Year. Mad Love.
This side mission is the creepiest and the most disturbing in this game which is perfect honestly. To add to the horror, one of the victims was in Tucson, where i live right now. and the other one in Little Rock, where my best friend lives.
If anything happens to either of you, Batman will avenge you. Well, no, he won't, he'll just go through the revolving door at Arkham. The Red Hood will probably avenge you.

It’s Dwight Schultz! You’ve probably heard him as Dr. Animo in every Ben 10 series, or Mung Daal in Chowder or seen him as Howling Mad Murdock in the original A-Team. He’s an incredibly talented actor but Pyg in this game is among his finest work.
I think my favorite part about this whole mission is how calm the Dollotrons move throughout the fight. No fighting stance, no fists up in the air, just casual walking towards Batman. Really adds to the creep factor of this whole mission, and helps make it one of my favorites ^^.

I really like the fact that they included the real life photos of the producers. Really puts a realism into these crimes. Nobody should have to meet their demise because of don’t some lunatic . Just imagine.. being born and living your life just to wind up a victim of some lunatic

I don’t think it specifically says in the game what Pyg does to his victims. In the comics, it’s stated that he melts dollotron masks to the faces of his victims before lobotomizing them to make them obedient. Pyg is hands down Batman’s most insane villain.

Batman, in this game, pretty much stopped feeling emotions after Arkham City, which would mean things like Pyg and Man-Bat don't spook him since he doesn't care. Batman was surprised by Hush in Arkham City, that's probably the only time we see him startled. Batman is pretty emotional in Arkham Origins, though.
My guy just brushed of Scarecrow’s toxin, that stuff increases your sense of fear to a serious level, and Batman just ignored it. I don’t think he can physically feel fear

Considering that Pyg is a more realistic villain, like Zsasz, that does make him more frightening when hearing the name of your local town being mentioned that a serial killer was around, knowing that you could've been next.

This is the kind of mission I always wanted: a good ol' murder mystery. At the same time, MAN, having to lay a beatdown on those innocent people, just because they were brainwashed? That's just tragic. This whole mission kinda makes me feel dirty afterward. I'm never gonna hear Mung Daal's voice the same way again.
This convinced me that Professor Pyg is the most disturbing Batman villain, before this I only knew of Professor Pyg from Beware the Batman, so it was especially shocking for me to see what he's really like

Anyone else loved how this side mission felt very much like a detective case? Hearing all these details of the victims was really intriguing, and finding out who done it was interesting, 🙂

I love how it has a perfect blend of detective work in finding out who mutilated and murder these innocent people and then finding out they were turned into monsters by a madman. Ending it all with an amazing boss fight.

I just noticed something: As you identify each victim, when you begin scanning the next one the initial number of missing persons decreases by one.
Now that's attention to detail.
That’s the idea, you see the victim had a tattoo removal, then the missing persons database filters through any missing people who had a tattoo removed.
Go on with other noticeable features until there’s only one person the victim could be.

These have always been my favorite parts of the “Arkham” games. Setting up crime scenes, scanning tissue, rebuilding events. Really put you into the detective side of Batman.

It’s Dwight Schultz! You’ve probably heard him as Dr. Animo in every Ben 10 series, or Mung Daal in Chowder or seen him as Howling Mad Murdock in the original A-Team.
He’s an incredibly talented actor but Pyg in this game is among his finest work.
I think my favorite part about this whole mission is how calm the Dollotrons move throughout the fight. No fighting stance, no fists up in the air, just casual walking towards Batman. Really adds to the creep factor of this whole mission, and helps make it one of my favorites ^^.

I don’t think it specifically says in the game what Pyg does to his victims. In the comics, it’s stated that he melts dollotron masks to the faces of his victims before lobotomizing them to make them obedient. Pyg is hands down Batman’s most insane villain.

Pyg really is horrifying. I wanted to find out all the paths and fights and enemies that Batman faces, but instead I was given an incredibly terrifying, disturbed, and truly remorseless villain. Bravo, Rocksteady. Bravo. You portrayed one of the most depraved criminals on all of comic history, if not the most, because the Joker just has an inch on him with his weird attraction to Batman while also setting up elaborate traps to kill him. And you know what? You did it well. I hope you're happy.

Batman, in this game, pretty much stopped feeling emotions after Arkham City, which would mean things like Pyg and Man-Bat don't spook him since he doesn't care.
Batman was surprised by Hush in Arkham City, that's probably the only time we see him startled. Batman is pretty emotional in Arkham Origins, though.
My guy just brushed of Scarecrow’s toxin, that stuff increases your sense of fear to a serious level, and Batman just ignored it.

Considering that Pyg is a more realistic villain, like Zsasz, that does make him more frightening when hearing the name of your local town being mentioned that a serial killer was around, knowing that you could've been next.

Papa oso At least they don’t change completely like what Pyg does to his victims. Mad Hatter only traumatizes them and possibly kills them, but Pyg mutilates and tortures their whole bodies’ and keeps their minds in a state that allows them to only see; allowing them to be terrified.
Even Alfred said that Pyg's unstable even by Gotham's standards. That says a lot.
