- A 4K POV video of a B-Road drive in a modified Honda Civic Type R EP3 with mics set up outside the cabin. A full Spoon Sports Exhaust system and a Tegiwa M induction kit provide the sounds.

The EP3 Type R is a great car in stock form. However, with some modifications, the car comes alive! Both the handling and the K20 engine can benefit from some upgrades and with this car here, that is the case. The current set up on the car is Tegiwa M induction kit into a standard inlet manifold, standard K20 engine with a Full Spoon Sports N1 exhaust System. All running on a standard ECU without a remap. The suspension set up is YellowSpeed coilovers, rear camber arms and polybushed front LCA’s with a fast road geo set up from Motion Motorsport.

That is the one thing I miss now that the car has been mapped. The crossover is so smooth now, it doesn't sound as obvious on the cam change over any more.

Yeah, I am pretty lucky around where I live with the roads! I shall look into doing some POV drives. Just don't want to over saturate the channel with them.

Problem is when you get a bad remap and having vtec too low you get too much mid range and not enough top end. Defeats the whole point of this car when it's about vtec.

epic sound! What mics and recorder are you using?
Thanks! I am glad you noticed it! For the exhaust sound I am using a mix of a GoPro on the rear bumper and a Rode NTG-3B Shotgun Mic in the boot (for the low end). For the engine Induction sound I clipped a Sony ECM-66B Wired Lavalier Mic to an A/C pipe in the engine bay and ran it back to a Zoom H4N Recorder in the cabin.

Honestly bro, take the plunge and get her mapped. Its the best thing you'll ever do. RBC and any old 421 manifold, you should see 240bhp and a night and day difference, not only will it be quicker but also way more driveable.

This was the Spoon 4-2 2-1 manifold into the Spoon B pipe and Spoon N1 backbox
My ep3 type r needs a new exhaust I don’t want nothing loud , that n1 spoon seems decent not to loud would you recommend and are they easy to do your self?
How much of the exhaust are you wanting to do? If its just the back box or cat back then its pretty easy. The manifold is a bit harder. God I want my EP3 Si to sound like that... The K20A3 is a hearty engine, but it lacks in that juicy punch into VTEC that the K20A and A2 have...
I guess you will just have to steal one out of an RSX Type S! haha. It is a shame that you guys didn't get the Type R in the US for so long!

Definitely do it at the same time! Save yourself some money! No point in dropping the subframe and getting an alignment twice

What do you think to the steering? I find it really unresponsive going over 70-80 on a uk B road.
My car is stock other than exhaust and intake though so I’m not sure if this is the case for everyone’s ep3
I have got a full fast road geo set up with yellow speed coilovers and polybushed front LCA’s which makes a HUGE difference!

ep3 are notorious for tracking problems. you need a propper geometry setup with some decent tyres, and yes i have a license.
Yo I got a question when you drive an ep3 and you are moving off do you apply gas to 1.5krpm and slowly bring up the clutch or can you just use the clutch to move off I am learning to drive btw
I apply the gas a little and slowly bring up the clutch. I would move slightly with just the clutch but not enough to build up a decent speed to avoid stalling.
@@OllyRoss so if you were to just use the clutch would you stall the ep3?
No, but you wouldn't go very fast and if you are doing it for a long time then you will wear out the clutch faster too. If you are only using the clutch and then come off the pedal without any gas, then it will stall. Does that make sense?? This is harder to explain than I thought it would be! Haha

Mapped ep3s can easily pull away on clutch. I very rarely use 1st gear.. 236bhp kpro

Haha! I agree! I don't plan to sell this car! Yeah, the Spoon system is a little drone with the bung in but with the bung out it is pretty bad around 50mph!

How did you change the badge on the steering wheel?
I have wrapped the standard badge with matte black wrap and then stuck down the Mugen badge over the top.
DO NOT try and remove the standard badge from the steering wheel. It is impossible to get out without ruining it. I was very lucky when doing it because I cut out a badge from a crashed EP3 where they airbag had gone off after ruining my original one.

They are actually the same apart from the inlet manifold.

I found it on eBay. It just sticks over the top
of the Honda one. Search for mugen steering wheel emblem maybe??

Get Kpro, RBC , Rdx injectors and larger throttle body make it 245bhp!!
Shouldn’t need the injectors for this power level. Not sure on the larger throttle body either. Don’t know if it’s worth the money for such a little gain. Who knows though. Might change my mind! Haha 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

I used a GoPro Hero 8 on a head cam mount, on the head sideways and flipped upside down

Yeah, the mount is supposed to be on the head so the camera is above the eyes but that sat too high. By turning the whole head mount 90 degrees and flipping the camera upside down, it meant that the angle was far more usable on the side of the head.

Power wise?? I have never had it on a dyno so I don’t know. My guess would be 209hp based on what I’ve seen others running with breathing mods. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Why is your car un mapped? After all the money you spent on the ep3 why did you leave tuning out? Wont be good for the engine not mapping it with bolt ons

You know I’ve driven much more powerful modern hot hatches. Audi RS3, Golf R, Audi S3 but none feel as exhilarating or as involving as the EP3 Type R.
The Honda feels raw, responsive and alive compared to other marques and begs to be driven.
Future classic for sure.
This is exactly my point! I don’t really care how fast the car is in a straight line. I’m all for driver engagement and excitement. I like how raw the car is! They just don’t make them like they used to!
