Here is a fun fact about why cheetah's can meow: the thing about these animals is that they belong to the felinae sensu stricto subfamily of the felidae (not to get confused with felinae sensu lato). Felines that belong to this subfamily have a pointy hyoid bone close to the skull. Their vocal ligaments are also quite small, this explains why cheetahs, along with other medium/small sized felines like ocelots, lynxes, house cats, caracals, etc. can meow and purr but not roar. This distinguishes them from the pantheridae where their hyoid bone has a more irregular shape, a very thick vocal fold with large laryngeal muscles, allowing them to roar. Big cats like lions, leopards, tigers, panthers, etc. belong to this family. That being said, according to the cheetah's taxonomy, one can say that this wild animal is actually phylogenetically closer to the domestic cat that we all know than to the leopard, which many people seem to struggle to distinguish it as a different animal from the cheetah, which us quite interesting.
@@remmilayne6153 their vocal cords are similar to house cats and not other big cats, basically their vocal cords vibrate when they breathe in or out allowing them to purr but not allowing them to roar.
Cheetahs aren’t really killing machines, they basically never attack humans and sadly lose their meals a lot of the times because they either couldn’t take it down or a lion or hyenas punk it for it’s food, that with the fact that they exert so much energy just to make a takedown means they usually have to eat the prey right there in the open which leaves them vulnerable to attacks

@@Hikari__Rose The whole point of your comment was saying that a speedy and vicious animal is sitting there and not causing trouble by just saying "mow". Like I said, that's all animals including humans. Animals attack out of hunger and protection, they don't just attack anything in sight because they have no self control. Most if not any animal can be a pet if you train them well. So yes, that includes lions
Biologically speaking, cheetahs don't belong to the genus "panthera" which includes all the wild cats with special voice boxes designed for a roar. This is why cheetahs can never give that intimidating wild roar, they just purr like smol baby cats 😭❤️
Yep. Panthera can't meow, and Felinea can't roar. But we're talking about orders, not genus. Cheetahs and Servals are both on the feline side, and lions are on the panther side.
@@Jouriza900 Lmao you’re a wehraboo larper, you have no right to judge people. Also, this furry hate is just cringy at this point. It’s a remnant of 2012-2017 internet culture.
For those that are confused, Yes, Cheetahs are cats, but, unlike their other big cat brethren they don't belong to the Panthera Genus, but to the Acionyx, so are a different type of cat than your Tiger, Lion, and Leopard. These are much closer to Pumas and Leopardus(not to be confused with Leopards), although Leopardus are much smaller, their features are similar. They are also one of the few large big cats that purr, chirp, meow, hiss and growl but cannot roar. One very interesting fact is that contrary to what many believe they have the highest hunting efficiency rates among all big cats, (~60%, so two in three hunts are successful) and are very skilled hunters.
Cheetahs are surprisingly tame-able (although I wouldn't recommend trying this). In older times, they were even used for hunting in the way that falcons were.

Cheetahs are truly different from ALL big cats. They're just an oversized version of a house-cat with GODLIKE speed bursts.
I mean, ofc they are different. Cheetahs aren't big cats they cant roar. But fun fact many Arabian and Iranian princes had cheetahs as pets they are just adorable and lovely
From a purely physiological perspective, cheetahs aren't big cats.
Housecats but with full speed stats
I wouldn't call their speed "godlike". They're fast, but that's a stretch.

There is not a single case of cheetahs attacking humans, they are more harmless than cats...

For those that are confused,
Yes, Cheetahs are cats, but, unlike their other big cat brethren they don't belong to the Panthera Genus, but to the Acionyx, so are a different type of cat than your Tiger, Lion, and Leopard.
And they are surprisingly curious and friendly.
Cheetahs are surprisingly tame-able (although I wouldn't recommend trying this). In older times, they were even used for hunting in the way that falcons were.
Though, you shouldn't approach a cheetah. They are still wild animals.
The Panthera genus are typically called "big cats", not the others

Depressed Lobster lol.
I know I am late, but dopamine is what gives a sudden rush of happiness. You wouldn't want a sudden boost of serotonin. It would throw off the chemical balance in your brain and turn you into a nervous wreck.
@BearOfNorway Wrong Dopamine is the pleasure hormone while serotonin lets you experience happiness and stabilizes your mood. Pleasure and happiness are not the same.
