Are we going to pretend that all management is wise and honorable, and would never fire without cause, or for ulterior motives?

Just another over-credentialed, overpaid executive who has no idea what reality looks like for the vast majority of working people. The problem most people have with getting fired or laid off is that they don't have a way to support their families and pay their bills. It's not some journey between embarrassment and personal empowerment.

This is when good money management comes into play. Having a nest egg is important in such uncertain times. We spend too much on "wants" as opposed to "needs"! Stop eating out for six months and put that money aside, and you'll be surprised how much you were spending on eating out.

As soon as she said she got 2 years severance her opinion on the matter completely dropped 😂. Lady you were a CEO and got a golden parachute everyone else got 2 weeks if they were lucky and left to figure out. They didn’t have the money to redecorate their room. They had to figure out how to survive.

I think she said she worked there 18 months and was paid for 2 years. So she got 6 months free

Sorry, all these "new direction/new opportunities" explanations of why you got fired seem absolutely transparent and BS. I get not wanting to amplify bad things, but looking like a BS artist only wins you points as a lawyer, politician, or actor.

her first point is that she was "embarassed." not icantpayrent, icantfeedmykids, i cantfixthecartogetgroceries, etc
maybe she got fired for sounding like predictable rich white person word salad. she literally didnt say much except "protect your image to yourself and others and have a PR like way of going about your atory"
lady. vanity is the last concern of most job seekers. Good manners? Do you actually think people dont send a thank you after interviews or dont know to be polite? How condescending

I understand this. They don’t want to pay you what you’re worth to clean up their mess and get going in the right direction and is not familiar with anyone, so they give you THE position. You and your crew put IT back on track in One year and six months.
The methods they implemented to get it done are red flags to me.
And 2 year severance, a complete package. Is the thank you.
Hopefully you still have your crew or the better portion of your team. Bravo!

Happened to me. Fired one month before turning 60 with ageism the underlying reason, myself and others all at or nearing 60. Turned out to be a very good thing, my next job found me in a much better position with more money and a year later, the biggest raise of my career as a percentage. The company I left behind is still struggling. Five years later, I'm now looking to retire soon. I was able to put more in my 401k than the previous decade and a half.

I was in my 30s and working in a small business when I was downsized in order to allow the bosses kid to keep his job but after a couple years I was able to get a job that came with a pension and was able to save money for retirement and make good money at the same time. I am now retired 5 years making 70K NOT working which is about 2/3s of what I made working. Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you will get if you leave or get fired from a job you really liked.
