I have the 4 inch version. It's pretty good. To be honest, if someone was on a budget, it's a great gun.
I have 8 inches, I'm sorry about yours...
Big Daddy still kicking it after all these years. All trim and living his best life. Hoorah.
I've been truly blessed. Thanks for the comment my friend.
I have the M200 and M206. Both are great budget guns. My M200 shoots smoothly and accurately. The M206 being a snub has more kick. I highly recommend these guns if you're on a budget.
Been buying guns for over 35 years. Was leary about a pistol made in the Philippines. Bought their 1911 clone and now it's my favorite truck gun. Very impressive workmanship and the thing is a tack driver.
What Is a truck gun
@@Nino_J a gun you keep in your truck, you want it to be reliable but cheap and replaceable because guns get stolen out of cars all the time
If you like reliable budget 1911s, I can’t sing the praises of Tisas enough. I got their 1911A1 government GI clone for $299 and it’s my favorite gun hands-down. The fitment on that thing is incredible.
I’ve had an M206 for about five years. It’s my glove compartment spare Gun. You mentioned that it’s a Colt detective clone. I installed a Pachmayr grip made for the Colt detective and it fits nearly perfectly. When installed, there was a small gap about the thickness of a credit card, which I sealed up with black silicone. It really makes a $250 gun feel like a $450 gun.
I love it. Grips can make a gun
I did the same and i agree 100%
Same here but when I grip it, the gap does not show, so I did not bother to seal it.
I live in the central Philippines. I can purchase these for under $50. Even less if I want to go used.
Wow, still love mine 😂
I have the long version of this (M200) and it's a great gun. I actually bought it for less than $259-- I spent $249 at Atwoods ranch store in Yukon, OK.
Anyways, it's fun to shoot and if I was on a tight budget and I needed a firearm to defend my home I could definitely see either the M200 or M206 as a prime option.
I love a snubby! Mine's a Taurus. Easy to conceal and quick to bring to the fight. Lends itself very well to point shooting at short ranges. If the M206 is anything like my RIA M200, I'd recommend putting some locktite on the knob of the cylinder crane. Mine worked itself loose, pressed against the frame and caused a malfunction. Easy fix though.
Good advice. Thank you
I bought one used for $150. Excellent condition. NO PROBLEMS
I've had mine for about 4 years now. Pretty good budget pistol I wasn't a fan of the feel of the wooden grip, looks great but feels horrible in my hand. I replaced it with a Pachmayr grip for a colt detective revolver. Do yourself a favor and polish all the internal parts it really slicks up the action. If I had to, I would buy this gun again in a heartbeat.
I called Rock Island and asked if they would handle +P and they said yes. But like you said, I would feed them a steady diet of +p rounds.
I have both the M206 and the 4 inch M200. Love them both. Another great set of grips can be sourced from Browneworks (here on YT also). I've made a few holsters for each of the revolvers as well.
Hey Mark and Jason, I always enjoy the videos. Wish there were more :-))
More to come!
Rural King in Tennessee has this on sale right now for $209. Sounds like I better buy one!
To me I think the positive is the extra round. However, I would go with a Taurus 856 or 605. Both are +P rated and the 605 can handle .357 loads too.
I agree that the 357 is the best and most versital of the three. but for the price. if you want an emergency/ force multiplyer pistol. it's hard to beat the price for a brand new, no history emergency gun. 38 special beats a 22 magnum every time. I can see this in my bathroom or a kitchen cabinet. just in case.
I have the Taurus 605 (steel version not the awful polymer one) and it shoots to point of aim and the stock rubber grips are pretty darn good. The trigger was stiff but smoothed out after I put snap caps in it and dry fired it about 1,000 times. It's a solid gun and I was able to put my 1990s S&Ws in the safe to give to my sons.
I have the Rock Island Model 200 & love it. I bought it because it has the longer 4" barrel, most .38 Specials are snub nose.
I bought mine in 2019 and I use the plastic grips that came with the gun. I want a grip where I have 3 fingers on it. The only thing else I did was scrape off some of the parkerized finish on the front sight then etch prime the bare metal and paint florescent orange on it. Makes it much easier to see.
I have the m200 and my cylinder release is exactly like that. I am hoping it comes out of it with more shooting. Super nice gun! Premium Gun Grips are amazing and really nice people to talk to and deal with, 100% reccomend them.
Nice video!
I just installed their wraparound rosewood grips on my m206, great company.
Hi Big Daddy! Happy to see you out shooting! And that did seem like a good price for that revolver. Wish it was rated for Plus P but would do the job if need be. And tell Boo Boo Good Job shooting a revolver for the first time!
I'll tell Boo Boo....lol. Thanks my friend.
I like the M206, I've got the spurless hammer version. I managed to get some Hogue grips attached. I had an issue with the timing of mine, sent it to RIA for some love, they fixed the issue and sent it right back to me. I can't complain about their service at all, mostly I can appreciate an inexpensive .38spl and RIA stands behind their products.
My friend has one and he just oiled the release, and worked it back and forth about 50 or 60 times he said, and now it’s easy and smooth. 👍
Excellent! Big Daddy turned into Trim Daddy! Looking good brother!
Thanks my friend....!!!
Thanks big daddy! @ Roy Hoffman please show us the 1911 in your holster. Thanks again
It’s coming
Big Daddy...good to see you making vids again. Love the top hat!
I just got the 206 a few months ago and love it! My cylinder release button is super tight but think it will break in with time.
I picked up a RIA AL 3.1 in .357. It’s a snub revolver but built like a Ruger. Unfortunately they’re not really a budget gun as it goes for around $600.
What you have looks real nice and seems to be very accurate.
In the Biden commie economy, $600 is budget.
I had one of those. The cylinder would get out of alignment often and cause the whole system to bind. It wasn't reliable enough for me to trust my life with it
Only snubby to trust is a S&W
So far so good. If it’s all you can afford, it’s better than any other $250 option I’ve seen.
@microchrist6122 not true. Ruger SP101 is the ticket. Built like a tank and runs like new even thousands and thousands of rounds later...
Sp101 is like $600-$700. This uses an old colt design, which is fragile and messes up all the damn time.
@bobjohnson1633 which is exactly my point. I understand the price difference though. I guess it breaks down to whether you want a $250 gun that's prone to problems and shouldn't be used as a ccw or home defense weapon. Or a $650 gun that you can trust your life with most likely be able to pass down to a family member one day. If your just going to let it sit in the safe and maybe take it to the range once or twice a year, then it probably doesn't matter that much which one you buy...
Wow that's awesome nice gun great video thanks
I can’t wait to buy mine!
I like mine. Has a tiny little bit of cylinder rub on the frame but it is barely enough for them to mar the frame and cylinder. But it’s timed perfectly
Armscor (RIA) used to make their revolvers in .22 and.22 magnum . They also made a Colt diamondback replica in .38 special. With the current interest in their revolvers in the US, I wish they would return these three models to production in the Philippines instead of having these produced in other countries.
That way they could sell these at a lower price with the same high quality as the 206. Nice video Big Daddy and Jason !
Thank you Eduardo!!
@@bigdaddyhoffman1911 The pleasure is mine Señor Big Daddy.
1st thing i did on my 206 was take off stock wood grips and put on Browne inc. Walnut short flat grips which are actually longer and flat on the sides! Didnt request stain or laquer finish! Love the natural coco color and the non finish feels super great no slip!
I have a .22 Mag Bear Cat that was my Uncles for a tacklebox gun. Love a good shooting lil revolver. That would make a fine truck gun. Something i can put in glove box. Especially nowadays just enough bite to put a hurtin someone...Awesome...
Good show. These guys are good together
Good review Mr Hoffman 👍
Thank you kindly
I just got me a RIA M206 the other day shoots great too...Great video
Good choice!
this is the weather get outside and love it
Picked up this gun for $199 on black Friday morning at Mills Fleet Farm store.
Neat little gun for plinking around!…🤠
I've wondered about those, I own all kinds of revolvers Smiths Colts Rugers Astra Manurhin you name it, I use a Taurus 65 that I've shot thousands of rounds through with zero issues as a utility gun, I think I'm gonna get me one of these Rock Islands.
What is a utility gun
Awesome!
Great video love your shooting range is that driveway gravel in there 😅 cool
It's Stone dust. Stone dust comprises fine stone particles and dust, making it almost like coarse sand. The quarry process is also called Crusher Run. Unlike dirt and sand you get very little wash away and it's worked great for me on the range. Thanks my friend....!!!
@@bigdaddyhoffman1911 can you sift out the lead and recast your bullets
Very cool little revolver! Also, more Boo Boo would not be a bad thing!
I hear ya
very nice little revolver, I might have to get one
Indeed
Nice piece , I was just mentioning to my friend earlier today that rock islands 10mm 1911 is also a solid bet , from what I've seen
Yes. I have a few 10mm 1911s. A single and double stack. Their are videos on the channel about them. They are very solid.
Best value revolver!!! Waiting for mine!!!
You had my interest at 10:25!
Hope you’re doing well BD! From a fellow NCer! Get some!
4:54 that one scene in GoodFellas …
Love those grips... Nice.. 🙂
Me too!
Nice and smooth
Thanks!
*Love the price, didn't like the difficulty of opening and the ejection of the rounds from the cylinder!*
Fair enough!
Love you too Big Daddy!
Thanks my friend.
9:58 THE hammer on the M206 angles back so far, thats the downside of this Rock Island wheelie
Sweet little revolver, for the price that would be hard to beat.
Very hard to beat for the money
Had one for several years I like mine
Love it great budget revolver
Thanks
It might not be expensive now but give it a few years
I hear you on that.....Thanks
As I’ve seen at least one other person say here, mine had major cylinder problems that would cause the whole gun to bind and lock up when firing.
Set it in a drawer and forgot about it for a while. Eventually I started taking it to the range just to mess around with and after some time the issues went away.
Still wouldn’t trust it with my life. But I can at least use it at the range now and make it through a full cylinder.
ive heard a few say that they experienced the same issues with a few different makers models and calibers. when i really looked into this common problem my conclusion was that it wasnt the cylinder it came down to variation in ammo. food for thought
@@wrenchg3954
It happened with or without ammo even in the gun.
Couldn’t even dry fire my way through a whole cylinder.
Oh, that it a bit different. personaly havent heard of this but its not impossible.
They're pretty good little guns.
i would agree
Be weary of older people they beat everyone and everything that tried to kill them.
That's a great deal!
especially with today's prices on everything.
That price is a screaming deal. By the way, this is the 150th anniversary of the Colt SAA and the Winchester Model 1973. Maybe consider doing a video on those guns?
good idea.
Clean the factory gunk out and oil it properly before shooting. Makes a world od difference in the RIA revolvers.
Considering one of these or a Taurus 327.
that'll leave a mark
Had one years ago. It would fail on the third round Was strange and the firing pin indentation seemed off
I bought that ... had the wood grips on it, but also a little bigger plastic grips along with it. Great little gun, but it bites the webbing in my grip ... a little less with the plastic grips, than the smaller wood grips, but still is kind of uncomfortable to shoot. A perfect close quarters defense gun, or for me, a bed gun. Someone enters my bedroom while I am sleeping (as I live alone) ... they will be wearing some lead on the inside of their body ... from my M206
Bought mine used for 145
no state better than good ole north carolina. i think i could spend just a little more money, though, and buy a taurus. the 856 would give you 6 shots, too, and +p's at that. i've not shot one yet, but i have an 85 and a 605 that shoot just fine. be safe y'all and thanks for the video. i think that gun would shoot better with come pachmyers.
0:58 SANTA CLAUS 🎅!!!
I doubt my 88-year old mother can pull the 16-pound DA trigger. Any idea if a Colt spring kit from someone like Wolff would work to improve the trigger?
Got my mother a Rossi 4" .357 added a spring kit and had the trigger polished. The DA pull is light and smooth. A 4" steel .357 shooting Hornady .38 Lights is just about right for her.
Nice. I have no idea if a colt spring kit will work with it. I do believe a good revolver is a great choice for seniors that struggle with the battery of arms, but still need a solid home defense weapon.
Why the hell does a 88 year old need a gun anyways
@@Nino_J The same reason a 58-year old needs one.
@@Old_Sailor85 I’d trust a 11 year old with a gun before I trust a 88 year old 🤣 no disrespect to your mother.
I seen this gun now at academy sports
although i did not handle one, it looks like a nice piece, for the $$$$$
Hey my old friend still shooting better than I...lol.
Hope all is well...
Target On BDH.
So what style of frame is it...J or K frame....might have to pick one up for one of the "kits"...
The J and K frame are really only applicable to Smith's. That said, it is much more on the Jframe size.
It's bigger than a S&W J frame. But smaller than a K frame. It's closer to a Colt Detective or Colt Police Positive in frame size.
Good guns, if you can find one , get it
I agree. I saw one used in a gun store today for $300. I thought that was excessive. Don’t over pay
Great Beard and hair Big Daddy! Stay Strong 💪
Thanks! Will do!
for someone ten feet away they're hurtin
Wow that gun is 250 thats great
Just curious, about how many yards are your targets down range?
15-20
@@bigdaddyhoffman1911 thanks. Im not an annie oakley🤭by any stretch; but your aim is impeccable👍 i need to practice
I bought mine yesterday for $219
The problem with the RIA m200 and m206 is that you may get real good one or a real junk one.
She kept count of her shots!! 😍🥰lol
There is a New Orleans pimp looking for his gun today.
What happened to Little Daddy 1911?
He's not much on filming and editing videos these days. Between work, wife, taking care of mom and dad, riding motorcycles, exercising, keeping up the property and range doesn't leave him a lot of time. He's a good man and takes very good care of his dad. What a blessing he's been to me. Thanks my friend.
Never pull back the hammer with the strong hand. Use the weak hand because you don't have to adjust your shooting hand.
I don't suppose you'd want to give me those original wood grips, would you? Or trade for a set of the pearl grips from Premium? I have had the m 206, and use the wood grips, and just bought a pre-owned m 200 with the awesome Premium wood grips. In the bag was a pearl grip, which I don't particularly like.
You may have to oil it and it will get better over time .
I'm still trying to find a snubnose in .45LC.
Taurus 450. came in steel, aluminum, or titanium. Size of a 686. 5 shots. I have an aluminum one.
Look into an "Avenging Angel".
A short barrel cap & ball with the conversion cylinder.
what grip is this??
Hi. He says it in the vid, but quickly. Premium gun grips.
that handle is called Mother of Pearl, the Pearl is what is protected inside that Mother of pearl. Pearls are expensive
Fun Fact.....I've Owned A M206 38. Special For 7 Years Main Carry Daily❗️ Never Had One Problem With The Revovler❗️ Son Of Gun Got Deadly Accuracy and to top it off you got 2 sets of grips. Easy 2 Conceal as well❗️
Is it very loud without earpro ?
@45Gunner556 not loud at all to me I let off rounds daily without earpros
@@lamarcarlisle9007 okay thanks 🙏🏻
I like spurless for that kind of revolver cause you can still cock the gun... I do it with my spurless guns buy pulling the trigger slightly till I can get my thumb under the face of the hammer and just cock the thing... with finger off the trigger of course.
The RIA Model 206 with the spurrless hammer is double action only. The hammer won't cock into single action.
I have the m200. A good shooting gun. A bargain.
I want one
Slaw burgers and gold ?? Lol
i got one when i was 18 and it was a big pos in my view, it ran expensive hollow points just fine, but i put 4 other types of target ammo through it, brass, steel. etc and it would have light primer strikes every cylinder.
3:02 not true DahlonegaArmory has them for 210 !!!
The 206 is more than the 200 in my area of n.h why got no clue
