Vintage Rusted Pocket Knife - Restoration - WorkshopDC
Hi guys! How are you doing? Hope well!
In today video i restore a vintage Rusted pocket Knife.
I think this Knife was homemade but i'm not a 100% sure about it.
There was a logo with the letters MS on the blade and unfortunately i did not find any information about it, but was a blade with a very good quality.
So, i start showing you the details on the pocket knife, it was with some rust and a crack on the wood case.
To disassemble i used a hammer and a pin remover (i don't know the rigth name of this tool), and a drill vise.
The disassemble was kinda easy but i need some attention to do not break any part.
After this process i start removing all the rust with vinegar, worked very well.
To make the the surface super clean from any residue of oil i used a strong degreaser and brushed the parts in the bench grinder.
The blade was with a lot of marks of rust, so i sand it away with a sandpaper 120G to 600G, i also sanded the other parts, the same process.
Off camera i cleaned all parts, and after that i make a nickel plate on the parts, the original plate was zinc but i didn't have this kind of bath yet.
With the nickel plate ready i begin polish all parts.
To the brass parts i use a different method to polish, electropolishing with acid, but work better with copper.
Now i star to restore the wood cases, first i glued the crack with super glue and used a wood clamp to not break the case, after that i sand the cases with sandpaper 220G to 600G.
And All ready to assemble, i used contact glue to a strong hold, put all the brass pins in the right places and hammered, off camera i file and sand them to make all smooth.
After the Knife assemble, i polish again, and star to sharpen the Blade.
I make a little test to see if it was really shartpened.
And all Done!
A perfect restoration if i can say that.

That is a true restoration. Nice knife. Lambsfoot blades are a favourite of mine. My lambsfoot is a vintage wartime British Army knife. It needs some restoring as well.
Thanks for watching Mark! ❤️
I love your little grumpy/happy fox stuffie
I love him too, he loves to judge If im doing the things well. ❤️
Very nice restoration! Very interesting I found the acid for electropolishing!
Thanks mate! This acid is good but work better on cooper.❤️

Muchas gracias Amilcar! ❤️
@@WorkshopDC 👍👍💯💯
Interesting effect of bath, very nice restoration. 👍
Thanks mate! ❤️
Very well done
Thanks! ❤️
Nice, he didn't fall into the pit of over-sanding the handle scales. Some people sand the original scales down till they are 1mm smaller than the spacer plates when they 'restore' the scales and it looks bloody awful.
Thanks! ❤️
Love your work...great job...
Thanks! ❤️
@@WorkshopDC Now that's a full Restoration...great job...Honestly
A bit late, but nice job, man! It’s so weird seeing a quality little pocket knife since every time I see them in stores they’re mostly made of plastic haha
This one is old, I never see one like that too. Thanks Bro! ❤️
Belo trabalho! Canivete "pica fumo".
Tinhamos exelentes cuteleiro e ferramenteiros aqui.
First thought; it looks like a Löwen Messer, but also kinda looks like a Schrade
Thanks! ❤️
Das war ein Durchschläger. Später hast du dann die Stifte vernietet!
Vielen Dank! ❤️
ALL HAIL HYPNO-WHEEL
😂😂😂😂
Otimo trabalho. Qual nome do acido usado ma eletropolimento???
Muito obrigado, o nome do ácido infelizmente não posso dizer por ser tóxico.
Why didn't you remove the blade so you could completely clean it of corossion
Name of chemicals ?
I used degreaser to clean the parts.

Большое спасибо за просмотр! 😉
Don't fix it if it ain't broken. Dislike.
Thanks for Watching!
It was broken. @ 0:31 the blade would not seat all the way in the handle like it should
