I find it difficult to read the beach, glad you suggested moving around and you'll eventually find something

Thanks for putting the video up! Local to Wollongong and have only just started fishing. Is there an easy way to read this location to know if it's worth throwing out based on the tide? Went past today but seemed waves were too large but more so that it didn't get deep until quite far out. Sorry not the best at explaining it lol

Generally if you get up nice and high you can spot the darker water close to the shore which are gutters. You might also notice waves breaking out the back, which then stop breaking before the beach - this is also a sign of deeper water.
There are plenty of videos on YT on how to read a beach which I reckon would be worth checking out!

    Need scent?
    Bait?
Reel in rod not leave still?

A beach rod and a metal lure.
Cast and move until you find fish!

Love the vid. Looks like an octopus at 12:12 and did you release the fish because of size laws or something like that?

Cheers Denis - Thanks for watching!
No size limits on Salmon in NSW, I just enjoy seeing them swim away for another day.

you came here during high tide? was that the reason why wave was so small, usually that area waves are like 5 metres high

Hey man just found your video. Awesome mate🤙 I'm from the gong so good to see a local spot. What size set up are you using? Cheers

      Cheers Kristian- Appreciate it mate!
Using a 4000 sized reel spooled with 20lb braid and a 6-8kg rod.
It's good to keep everything light with this style of fishing cause you may need to put in a few casts to find fish!

legend matea sweet set up. You up the leader weight? They were busting up off fairy meadow beach on Friday. A heap of tailor and mackerel around too. 🤙

@@kristianmoore3723 I just play it by ear mate. Generally based on what I'm expecting to come across. With Salmon around I'll keep it 20lb or so. If the toothies move in we may have to play a different game. 😬

If you use metal leader to prevent tailor from cutting you off, would this reduce strikes or is it worth using like 50lb mono instead?

    • @wfalifestyle
      @wfalifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I think you will get a lot more fish if you keep it light my friend. 30lb leader would be perfect for this style.
