Nice. Water looks brown. What was the lure you trolled him up on? If you don’t mind.
@marknissen8545 This is a real old video so I can't tell you the lure sorry mate! Believe this was after some flooding though where there was a lot of fresh in the system. I'd probably be using soft plastics if I was to guess
Unexpected catch in the Hawkesbury? You are baiting viewers with incorrect titles
I live just around the corner and have caught them pretty random
Always a welcome surprise
That hairtail looked prehistoric reminded me of a Beetlejuice face. Nice flattie, one of my favourite eating fish.
Was pumped to tangle with such a cool looking critter!
I was catching them on soft plastics as a kid in the late seventies in Sydney harbour.
I just bought a kayak and am going up to lake Lyell next week and was looking to take it there where is that drop off located ? Looks awesome !
Cheers mate and good luck. You can launch at Sir Thomas Mitchell drive to access the areas I was fishing in this video.
Why was a Hairtail a surprise , ( Hawksbury lower) is fairly species in winter time . 🦘🇭🇲👍 Good eating , no scales just a silver slime to wipe away. The swim upright ( longitudinal) . Nice to revisit the area , thanks
New to your channel and loved the video. Some nice catches, my first time seeing a Hairtail, and your editing was fantastic. Awesome job and look forward to watching more from you. Take care!
Thanks for the kind words my friend. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hairtail are wild looking critters aren't they!
@@wfalifestyle They really are freaky looking, but in a cool way LOL
what a cool by catch nice job mate
Cheers brother!
Got the same kayak, boy those seats sure do suck don't they?
Haha oh yehhhhh they do
No life jacket? You might think you will be safe but I just lost a mate doing the exact same thing as you and he would have survived if he was wearing his life jacket. Can happen to anyone, be water smart mate, live to fish another day. 😎🤟
Sorry for your loss mate ❤️
Wow top video ❤I love 🥰 it
Thats a hairtail! One of the most delicious fish to eat! They are certainly better tasting than tailors, they are pretty rare to catch, they often come in blurry waters. Fun fact: they eat tailors, maybe thats why they taste 2 times better...
😮😮😮
That was sick!! where did you launch from? looked quiet and away from boats!
Thanks mate - appreciate it! This was filmed around Mooney Mooney launching off some dodgy rocks 😄
Nice fishing, there's nothing unexpected about the hawkesbury except to be unexpected....
Magic place ✨️
YTW Gang!
Yessirrrrr 🫡
Now that's a trophy
The fish in the dam are super healthy, last month caught a 41cm tagged one which was released on April 2022 and was 25cm grew a bit over just under 2 years
Nice vid bro, I’ve been here 3 times and caught 1 trout every session, only used spinners and double clutch, which soft plastic and colours and jig head weights do you use thanks
Cheers mate. Depends on the conditions but as light as you can cast and 3 to the bottom (1/16oz give or take a size is about my norm) I've had success with natural colours because the water is so clear. 👌 hope it works for you
@@wfalifestyle which plastic were u using?
Awesome mate, have you ever walked upstream from that spot ive found alot more browns that way as the pools are a little slower but still some nice rapids inbetween.
Cheers mate. I haven't actually but now I want to go and check it out!
I want to catch and cook. What setup do i need. What Jigg and anything else? Need scent? Bait? Reel in rod not leave still?
A beach rod and a metal lure. Cast and move until you find fish!
Bring me the Horizon Amazinggggg
Hey mate, good video. Iv fished the hawkesbery river a few times but haven't had a massive amount of luck. If you don't mind me asking, what depth were you trolling when you were catching the flathead? To my knowledge, most parts of the river is 6+m. How did your lure stay on the bottom?
Thanks for watching man! Appreciate it. This was filmed up one of the shallower creek systems where the depth averages about 2-3m. Trolling the vibe worked a treat on the flathead!
Oh ok so you were out of the main river and in the smaller creeks. Makes sense, haha. I'm from the Wollongong area. I wish I could get up there more often. There is so many good fish in the hawkesbery. Just wish I could find them.
Love fishing this spot, used to be some big fish but this season all ive caught there a little rats lol. This spot also get peppered quite abit
Thanks for watching mate. It's such a pretty spot I don't mind too much the size!
No problem enjoyed the video, it is very pretty spot @@wfalifestyle
Nice! Coxs?
Really well put together.
Thanks mate. Appreciate it
Hi, great video but your mike is low and music to loud 😂 keep up the good work 🎉
Thanks mate. I've got a fair bit better in more recent videos! 😀 Appreciate you watching all the same!
Nice video man!
Nice job,. ive caught flathead using cera lures in Balmain after teh floods, water was plenty brown. Ive caught bream in fresh water just up from a brackish wier as well.
Yeh they're don't seem too deterred by brown water in the Hawkesbury
Great video mate ! That’s why I don’t live out west - I go nuts if I can’t fish saltwater! Strangest lure find I ever had was walking the turon river , I waded across a pool and a tiny black celta got snagged on my trouser leg .
Thanks for watching mate - Appreciate it 🙏 Not a bad snag that. If my record of lure loss is anything to go by, there is plenty out there to be found 😂
Cox or Fish?
Both fishing so well at the moment mate! This was the 🐟
@@wfalifestyle thanks mate! You not gonna tell me if it was upstream of Flat rock or downstream?😂 I’m going tomorrow to Fish
@@maximsuvorov9193 😂 Both are great mate - trust your instincts!
What an unreal spot. Trout fishing is next on my list
The best brother - we will go soon!
Awesome vid mate
Thanks for watching mate! Glad you enjoyed it
Hey mate, wondering where about on the lake you were fishing.
Around the Farmers Creek and Coxs River arms mate.
Thanks for putting the video up! Local to Wollongong and have only just started fishing. Is there an easy way to read this location to know if it's worth throwing out based on the tide? Went past today but seemed waves were too large but more so that it didn't get deep until quite far out. Sorry not the best at explaining it lol
Generally if you get up nice and high you can spot the darker water close to the shore which are gutters. You might also notice waves breaking out the back, which then stop breaking before the beach - this is also a sign of deeper water. There are plenty of videos on YT on how to read a beach which I reckon would be worth checking out!
@@wfalifestyle thanks so much will do!
Amazing stuff, I love Maggie island. How far off the island was the reef where you had a snorkel?
Thanks mate. I honestly can't remember which reef but we were a fair way out! Beautiful spot 👌
Nice one. I went there just the other day and caught a tagged fish too, on the opposite end of the dam though. Do you remember what any of the tags were, mine was 279350. Would be pretty crazy if I happened to catch one of your fish.
Thanks for watching mate. Same release but not the same fish unfortunately 😕 mine were numbers above and below your one
@@wfalifestyle Ah oh well. Thanks for showing what you received from the DPI, I was wondering what they'd send for reporting the tags but couldn't find any information online.
nice mate, been there once and caught nothing myself haha but remember seeing some HUGE blue yabbies. Beautiful spot! Will hav to head back there soon.
There is no shortage of big trout food here...or big trout for that matter!
Is there any good land based fishing spots in this lake?
Plenty mate. I would focus around the recreational park 💪
@@wfalifestyle ok thanks, what kind of fish are in lake Lyell that I could catch at the park?
@@ollie2456 predominantly Redfin, Trout and Australian Bass. All stocked in the lake although redfin are by far the most common catch

Horse shoes
who the ex nunt tell me you people?
Hey mate do you have to wear a life jacket when fishing that lake on a kayak?
Yeh mate. The law in NSW is that life jackets must be worn at all time in all personal watercraft (kayaks, Jetskis etc.) and in certain circumstances in boats under 4.8m.
Mate. somebodies gotta tell you. your a clown. the Redfin are pest species like carp you don't release them. your endangering all the natural species. if you want to fish and let them go. get them from the fish market. hope the DPI watch your video and track you down. from all the fishos that do the right thing.
Ants vs bee
Nice fish…
Lake Lyall is screwed now with the amount of invasive species, being Redfin and also bogan ski boaters with neck tatts.
Good stuff mate
Hey mate glad you had a good time just don’t release the Redfin because the more you release the less bass and trout we can catch. It’s also illegal
