This performance is good, but in fairness to Tom, listen to the version he recorded in the studio in one of his earlier albums. Far outshines this live performance.
The changing of verse 2 to verse 1 and then repeating verse 2 was very clever. It stretches the song quite smoothly. Listen to TJ’s version of “I Who Have Nothing” written by the same team, it’s fabulous.
Good to hear someone with a full-bodied voice in contrast to the often tin-voiced and screechy rock musicians of earlier eras now bygone, but TJ was often ridiculed by that crowd..
Tom is an extraordinarily singer and entertainer but this song is not right for his voice. He has a voice for soul, blues, pop, ballads and their are many many better performances on you tube during each era of his career.
