4oz Muay Thai is absolutely mad! With Seksan going to war for about the 50th time in a year, Carrillo dusting Nong-O with an elbow in 2 rounds after being hobbled by low kicks, and Kulabdam shutting down pub brawler Aminipour with a fight ending body shot, 4oz Muay Thai isn't here to play! Tawanchai vs Superbon was a technical masterclass that I'll enjoy a few times over!
ONE Friday Fights 46: Tawanchai vs. Superbon (also known as ONE Lumpinee 46) was a combat sport event produced by ONE Championship that took place on December 22, 2023, at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Seksan is a madman. He doesn't even have trainers or sparring partners, just a bag.

Seksan is just a wobbly drunken fighter that a foreigner can never win against in Thailand unless it’s a KO/TKO 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@abolition1889I wouldn’t say any of those were robberies it’s just the Thai scoring is way different from everywhere in that punches and forward pressure are not scored as highly as kicks, knees, elbows, etc. A lot of farang losses imo can be traced to insufficient understanding of this system that punishes you for over relying on punches (low kicks also don’t really score unless there’s visible damage, and catching kicks by itself does not score at all, you have to score off of the caught kick (this is just what I’ve been told)

I like the idea of the losing fighter getting a bonus as well if they demonstrate heart and a warrior spirit. People will pay to see, and will cheer for a fighter that doesn't have the best record but fights like a warrior and puts on an entertaining fight.
Fighters need to have a profitable longterm career, and be able to take care of their people.

Superbon vs Tawanchai was a defensive master class to the point we didn’t really get to see the offense I wanted from either man. Some really cool defensive sequences where like 10 strikes are blocked in a row

Thanks for covering this and taking the time to make some notes on it all.👍🏻
No idea why the fella who was fighting like he was on a night out, or as if his opponent owed him money, totally wreckless as you say and he put on his arse to go home and have a word with himself 🤦🏻‍♂️

really loved your take on this one. its really sad to see former high level stadium champion thais throw everything out of the window to chase the knockout. especially when you know how capable they are by looking at their past resumes. watching the breakdowns of these legends few years ago before one fc and looking at them now, looks like different fighters. until you mentioned it in this video, i didnt realise just how bad the 4oz gloves and bonuses make the fighters and the fights. i think another aespect of it is the elimination or minimization of clinching, which is an artform on its own. i remember looking at the stats/rules they were showing before the tawanchai/superbon fight and at last rule it said "no throws, no grappling", and i was just thinking to myself.. is this even muay thai? thankfully, like you mentioned, they were sensible enough to still be concerned for their own health and put on a great fight for us to study.
as you said, the art is being lost and its just disintegrating into slugfests. even clinching/throwing helps the athletes avoid excessive punches to the head or atleast provides the athletes with an alternative to stay safer and opens up another dimension of the game. i understand the concerns with stalling when allowing that but thats why the ref is in there, to determine if an athlete is stalling. although as you said one fc seems alittle inconsistent with their judging/reffing. besides, athletes stalling in the clinch wont be receiving bonuses anyway, so there might not be incentive to stall as much but rather to be active in the clinch. and as a fan it can be more exciting as well because we get to see and study different styles of fighters. but all these knockouts ironically just make it less exciting as you see less matchups of styles but rather who has the bigger power. i guess for mma the 4oz gloves are not as bad because theres the grappling dimension, so you can always have that option.

I see many people complaining about 4oz gloves in Muay Thai, how is different than all the fights they do in hemp ropes wrapped over there hands? That’s probably even more impact

I think most of the Thai fighters are not usually mastered in punching but something else like kicks, elbows, or knees. Because most of the times, their styles were passed on from their teacher.
And these 4oz groves are absolutely changing the whole game, as westerners are better in their punching game. I saw great fighters like Rodtang or someone talked about that as well. But I love it though, especially with 3 rounds.. I think it got Muay Thai to another level.. just insane fight after insane fight 😁

Awesome how much of this went pretty much how I predicted, especially the main event. Tawanchai has more then proven he belongs among the legends, he's s-tier no doubts, but he's not some unstoppable god as some seem to think, anyone of these dudes could beat the other any given night. Anyone paying attention knows other legendary & highly techincal Thais have given Tawanchai his toughest fights. So was 0% surprised how close this was.
