Japanese Train Bento Box Factory in Tokyo Japan - How a train bento box is Made in Japan factory, part of my Made in Japan series. Also shown japanese onigiri and japanese sandwiches are made in the factory. This is a food tour of all the products that is made in a Japanese bento factory. Japanese train bento is also known in Japan as an ekiben, short for eki-(train station)-bento.
If you’ve ever seen or eaten a Japanese train bento, good chances it was made by JR Tokai Passengers. They sell bento boxes, onigiri and otsumami sets at Tokaido Shinkansen stations, kiosks, food stands on the platform. Employing about 530 staff to make this all happen . And today, I’m taking you into the heart of it, where train bentos are made in Japan, at their Tokyo Shiomi factory.

I see so many food violations here in my state. It’s pretty disgusting! I saw long beards and hair! I asked the Corporate office about it- crickets- environmental health inspection-crickets.

This is by far the cleanest food preparation and the most authentic homecook looking instant food to go that I've seen. Japan never fails to amaze me with their pursuit of high quality products.

I swear is cleaner then hospitals. They go thru basically the same process as one would go in to a clean room

This is actually what I expected from companies here in North America but was disappointed to find out that it's nothing like this lol. I do see some companies at least trying, but nothing on the level of making their office workers wear safety apparel.
@@Teddywolf it is a cleanroom, judging by the air showers and why you have to wear a suit. Probably class 10k or less.
The level of cleanliness reminded me that Japanese schoolchildren help clean their own classrooms every day. Fantastic!

This is probably why I bought a Japanese car that was actually assembled in Japan. Their attention to detail and quality and pride is second to none. Incredible 👏🏾

This place is cleaner than a hospital's OP room. That's amazing. I love this about Japan. So hygienic and everyone takes pride in making sure everything is clean. Nobody feels like they're "too good" to clean. This was clearly seen in some of your other episodes like "a day in the life". Amazing.
I love how they approach preparing bento the same way a surgeon gets ready to operate. The cleanliness, meticulous attention to detail and pride they take in their work is inspiring. Plus the food looks DELICIOUS!!
The Japanese always have this level of cleanliness even for other products as well. I once went to a supplier's factory for hair products and all visitors and employees had to suit up and even walk through a decontamination chamber just like the one in this video

@@maeudaou7347 On the other hand, Japan has some of the best national recycling programs for all kinds of products, including plastic and electronic waste, in the world. You can check out videos about recycling in Japan. Yes, they excessively use plastic wraps due to extremely high standards for presentation of products and food items. But they also have amazing recycling programs. Overall, Japan is way greener than most North American and European countries. Not to mention how amazing they are at conserving water.

I'm Korean, but people who have been to Japan say that lunch boxes sold at convenience stores are delicious.Looking at this, I understand why Japanese lunch boxes are delicious.
This is how every food factory and restaurant must be, not only the flavor matters also the way you prepare food to a cleanest way possible

Despite the amount of food they have to produce, you still see how workers handle food with so much care! So respectful with the food, no one sped up to make more food. Quality over quantity 👌
Train Bentos are some of the best thing you'll eat in Japan. Everyone look forwards to traveling on trains and this is one of the reasons.
I’m in love with so many things about Japan, the architecture, the foods, the language, the culture, the cleanliness, their anime etc. I really want to go there one day. It’s definitely on the top of my bucket list.
People there work hard to make things great! Their customer service is top notch. I try to emulate it in North America. You will enjoy visiting Japan. :)

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of time and attention that Japanese take into making sure that their food is amazing and tastes good.
I like how the machines are there only to help to standardise and free time for the workers to do other parts of the recipe. It cooks some of the basic ingredients in bulk (like rice), allowing them to focus on parts of the food prep that benefit from an actual human's touch, then back to the machine it goes for it to be as cleanly wrapped as possible. The best from both words.
We really need to get these in the United States, especially the kid's ones that have the vegetables and fruits that are cut to look like cartoon characters. A product like that would sell like crazy here because there is a HUGE need to get more kids to like vegetables.

I'm so surprised with how freshly made everything is! This video definitely made me think about how fresh the food items are that are served at train stations or the airport when you're not in Japan. Even if they don't produce in masses like we may be used to (even though 8 - 10k is a lot), knowing everything is fresh and made well is incredible!

I remember on my first trip to Japan as a kid to visit relatives in the early 70's, we went on several train trips and bought bento boxes. I LOVED those lunches and even as a small kid, really appreciated the goodness. :)
I just love how Japanese train bentos are made to be eaten cold. These bentos are now available in Taiwan as well. I didn’t have to travel to Japan to get the awesome experience!

Man, it's my dream to be able to create a company as good as this. Great system, great employee, great products. Everything just perfect. 👌
I know that this work is super boring but if it’s worth anything I would like to thank these people for the care and the effort with clean practices they put into each and every one of these bentos. I can’t even begin to count the time when the bento box was actually the highlight of the day of the trip when walking around had been tiring or when I had just finished a tough school term. I don’t know how far Japanese elite gourmet goes but to me Japanese bento boxes are the most moving. They’re not too expensive and yet taste good when cold and are just right for the stomach after a hard days travel. Some people might feel like they work in a machine but I would like them to know I’m so grateful for the bento boxes.
Japan is literally the definition of cleanliness when it comes to their food
Every service they offer is cleanliness not just their food.
Or just cleanliness in general. Even gas station bathrooms are squeaky clean.
Apart from perhaps a saleryman office space at times, it seem like every Japanese service is serious about cleanliness.

These videos always make me want to take pride in my job. I wish factory jobs and similar labour type work was more appreciated in Canada, I wouldn’t need to constantly find a higher tier job just to work hard and not feel embarrassed.

Absolute efficiency and cleanliness, from the people working as a team, each focusing on different tasks, the machinery and floors being kept constantly clean, and even to the visual design of the food packaging, this was a real joy to watch, and reminds me why I admire Japanese workers so much (besides some cultural differences of course).
i have been to Tokyo 12 times in 2019 before the pandemic, i truly miss Japan, hopefully I can make a trip 2023. I am so impressed by the cleanness there.
I just LOVE Japan and the people! I’ve visited several times and Japan is like no other Asian country. They are so clean and meticulous about everything - they highly endorse customer service unlike here in the States. You’d be hard pressed to find a rude server in Japan. The sanitation requirements for that company is awesome, everything is so immaculate when it comes to cleanliness. That Japanese way of doing business is second to none- they really take pride in their work and taking care of the public. So impressive.
Would love to visit someday soon, if not stay there for a while and see it in person. How were you able to visit soo many times with there high flight prices, or is it just cheaper from the States? I'm in the UK, so sadly the prices for a return flight I think usually go well over £600 to more regularly £700 for a return connecting flight. :(
Yes I personally haven't been to Japan but I have a friend who lives there. I can tell Japanese people is very well mannered and sanitized well. I love the customs and traditions but what I think is best is that Japan has a very smart way of doing things. The technology is one of the best things I love in Japan.
Those who took Japanese trains in the 1970s~early 1990s, remember the time of buying train bentos from the train window, and receiving them from bento sellers at the train station platform. Basically old style ekiben.

I love how the Japanese are so meticulous in everything they do and it shows.
The logic of Japanese factories:
1. Everything has its very own process;
2. Attention to details in every single process;
3. Then, you will get the whole picture.
I once working part time in this kind of factory in Japan. I worked in the conveyer area at midnight shift and let me tell you, it’s stressful as hell. You have to be fast but also precise because it need to be sold in the early morning.
Nonetheless, it was a very good experience.
the bento shops in shinjuku train station are AMAZING!!! if anyone of you go, its a must pick up if you head to shinjuku.

My daughter and I each had a few of these while traveling in Japan. Part of what made our trip so amazing, is that neither of us every got sick. These boxes were fresh and beautiful, as well as delicious! Such commitment from workers to keep things clean and the best they can be! Aloha!

@@jow.2450 No, they are not only sold for train rides. You can buy these at a lot of major train stations. However, as they are intented to be eaten on the train, you'll mainly find them in train stations that have a platform for their bullet trains (Shinkansen). Otherwise, it's not as if these bentos are sold in areas only accessed by bullet train riders, anyone can go any time to buy a bento.
I dont know about the rest of your viewers, but I need more How Its Made in Japan. Chopsticks. Sake. Vending machines.

Well, the population of Japan consists of 98% Japanese people so no big surprise here. Why shouldn't immigrants do their job with pride as well? It's not all gold that glitters and of course they have to show pride and huge respect for their work especially while being taped. It's a whole different story once you had a Japanese employer yourself.

Bento boxes don't taste that good really... They are good but not delicious level good... If you want to truly experience their culture I would recommend trying home made food if you know any acquaintance in japan.

The price are also expensive, but when I see this process, I think It’s worth it cuz they do so many effort to reach a good quality product.

@@lalilulelo Well, it's a low volume product for a relatively low volume train. Shinkansen in itself is expensive, and people don't usually take it unless they are actually traveling for somewhere far or for holiday. They gotta make the profit from somewhere.

What I'm so amazed about is how detail and clean the factory in Japan.. Like there's no a single droplet of sauce on machine.. Everything is in order.. And those white protection uniform just scream cleanliness 🤩

Imagine how they would feel when they come to see a food factory in the US..... Joking apart, sometimes, their good work ethics becomes obsession to order or cleanness, which is no good. I like somewhere between, Japan's clean culture and US' loose culture. BTW, I'm a Japanese living in the US.

Where I live factories have decent cleanliness but not as squeaky clean as factories in Japan 😂
One thing that never occurred to me when i visited Japan in 2019 but until after i returned home, is that plastic still, and quite frankly mainstream, exist in their life, either as you see here in and around the bento boxes, or when you go to the local store and buys two bottles of teas - the convenient store clerks would usually through the bottles in a small plastic bag without a flinch or asking you unless you have your own bag ready at hand - I didn’t (still don’t) speak Japanese so I just took what they ended up handing over to me after I paid. Disclaimer, I did put them in the recycling bins in the places we were staying at.
There is no overly aggressive demand of “ban plastic-anything everywhere”. They just have better recycling facilities, collection programs, and trained their PEOPLE to follow those rules and RECYCLED every single shred of plastic.

This is Japanese productivity and automation at its best. Food making is always the hardest, especially when you need to make consistent quality and quantity with machine while maintaining taste.
