God was trying so hard to change this man's direction!! Talk about missing the signs. Bless his heart. Great story. Laughed out loud at poor ole Dick and his poor foot.
What a crazy tale... almost want to feel sorry for him ☺️ I think I would have took it as a sign after the first few strokes of "bad luck"...Lol... Thanks JD... you're a fine storyteller 🤗❤️
🎼Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me! 🤷♀️🤣🤷♀️ That guy was something else! All the songs you play in the background, are songs I grew up singing. ♡
Another amazing story. My daughter and I listened to this while she is getting ready for school. His perseverance was inspiring. His horsemanship was hilarious.
ROFL I don’t know who was more stupid. The outlaw or the governors of California. You would think people who are supposedly book smart would be able to figure out that actions that send you to prison and letting them loose really doesn’t work.
I believe that if Dick had any sense he would’ve waited until the invention of the automobile before robbing any stagecoaches. LOL Thank you JD, I sure enjoyed this story. 👍🇺🇸👍
Well, this guy definitely sums up the phrase "if it wasn't for bad luck, id have no luck at all "!😂 great story telling as usual. Im addicted to this channel at the moment!
I couldn't help but to laugh throughout this entire episode😂 . I'm from Laurel Co Ky so to hear a story about a guy with so much bad luck from a surrounding county made me laugh alot.
I couldn't stop laughing! How could someone have such horrendous misfortune? Yet not just give up, time after time?! When are they going to make a movie about this guy's story?!
"Giving up time and time again" sounds like NOT REALLY GIVING UP AT ALL. Sounds more like still trying . If give up u jus give up. U can't fail anymore.
Breaking the law is wrong but I had to laugh and laugh at the horse problems he had. Maybe that's where the saying, "Stop horsing around!", came from. Thank you JD!
JD, I'm an old Roane County boy living up here in Northwest Ohio. I found your channel a couple of months back and my wife and I really enjoy watching your videos. This story today made us chuckle. It's an amazing story. Keep up the good work.
Man, what a story! 🤣 And funny! Wow lawyer turned outlaw! And his poor foot! 🤣 🤦♀️ I love the guitar playing in this and your voice is perfect for narrating!
When I wrote this story, I did my best to transport listeners back in time to be right beside the bad luck bandit and help dust him out each time he fell
Poor wee Dickie... and his comedy of errors. I agree you have to admire his perseverance, but imagine who he'd have been if he'd applied himself to positivity instead... Great entertainment this one! Always enjoyable! Thanks for doing what you do!
OMG This was hilarious JD! What an incredibly inept & unlucky &stupid “criminal”. This had me laughing out loud! I needed this to take my mind off my pain & I do thank you for that! Keep em coming as you have the most interesting and varied stories
They did, it called Cat Ballou with Lee Marvin and Jane Fonda.😆 At least that's what I thought during the narration. Lee Marvin's character was terrible with a horse 🐎.
What and incredible chain of events, this guy was destined for a lifetime of reinventing himself. What a great upload just purely loved it. Thanks for taking the time to put it together for your TH-cam family. I bet Dick either settled down in some old watering hole somewhere....or....he moved to Canada. haha🤠
George Brittain Lyttle was living with his sister Sally and her husband Harvey Hatton on the 1920 Knox County, Kentucky census. Sally died in 1922 and in Jun 1922 he is mentioned along with his brother Carlo and mentioned in the wedding announcement or their sister Lenora. Another Jun 1922 newspaper article states he was moving to Cincinnati to teach Spanish
Hi JD! This should be called the outlaw that couldn’t. Apparently he was not destined to be an outlaw. Maybe if he would have taken the straight and narrow path, his life would have been better. He was not a family man either, far from it. Another great story JD. Have a blessed day!
I laughed harder than I should have. But what a great way to enjoy my morning coffee. Hahaha. The way you tell the stories are the best. Thank you for sharing with us. May God Bless you and yours. Keep them coming. 😊
Oh my gosh, this story had me laughing. Thank you for sharing. A great way to start the week. And yes I agree with you where ever he went he probably walked there.😂
Really interesting story. He was good at being good and very bad at being bad. Even had a happier life if it hadn't been for the alcohol. The part where he succeeded because he dressed up the trees to look like he had a game was so inventive and made me laugh. And nothing in it but a piece of paper written in Chinese. I believe there was some supernatural in intervention. And his guardian angel. Or even fate would not allow him to succeed in his bad deeds. I like to believe once his family came whatever became of him that he finally surrendered and quit fighting fate and settled down to be the good Christian man that he was born to be.
Well said Elizabeth! I didnt put it in the video, but there is a theory that once he finally got out of prison once and for all, that he changed his name again and became a preacher and just quietly disappeared
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller that guiding Spirit was no doubt in my mind his grandfather thank you JD that's an interesting comment makes the story even more intriguing.
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller yeah I’m a big history buff if you e watched my channel, been in wars, a Paramedic for 20 years, seen some bad stuff. But this book blew my mind that the people here where I live, and probably relatives took part in such horrible things! Lots of the things in the movie “Cold Mountain “ came from this true account
Such a good story, I’m from Foggertown nestled just on the Laurel and Clay County in KY. I’ll have to look into more and see if I can connect anymore dots.
I do not think that stage robbery was his thing. Maybe he should have tried something else, lol. That said, great story. I was wondering if you ever heard the story about a kid around Statesville, who was forced to join the CSA army. He got out my making the MD think he had Small Pox when it was just a case of poison ivy. I saw some of it on the history channel I think. Also another great story would be Lewis Redmond.
Drink have problems, drink again have problems...you might have a problem. Clearly there was a power trying hard to get him to not be a criminal but he just wouldn't listen.
That is the funniest tragedy I’ve ever listened to..I thought I knew some unlucky ppl and stubborn..but this man managed to be unlucky, stubborn and cursed to never have made friends with a single horse his entire life apparently lol
Has to be the unluckiest man I've ever heard of. Horses were not his friend at all I actually feel bad for the man. Perhaps he should have invested in a bicycle 😂 and yes there we're bicycles in the 1800s. Fun fact first motorcycle was built in 1885
Maybe he should have considered riding a bicycle. You are truly a professional storyteller, because there is no way an amateur could have told this story without cracking up. This trumps The Apple Dumpling Gang by a long shot.

that is correct, we discussed that in the comments several months ago
Thank you for extra information. Hopefully Lyttle stayed away from whiskey, horses & robbing. He got alot of chances. LoL 😊
These stories are fantastic! Thank you for your research and the wonderful narrative.
