just started mag fishing here in Canada , liked the river lea vids floated and sank a few WW2 steel helmets in the 1950s who knew that they would be valuable today...John
rent a small boat and drag magnet behind you ,, .. i dont think it will be mudlarking ,, as not on the shore .. look into it ,, its a total new concept... ,,,
they tie 2 together to cross channel ,, makes a more stable craft ,, as narrow boats are ,,, narrow ,, lol.. then once in france , most Europe waterways are linked via rivers canal sea locks ect ,,
when i lived on boat ,, we dragged an empty hull behind ,, and grapple hooked scrap .. filled hull then weighed it in ... was another way of earning a shilling travelling , water gypsy style ..
ps .. clean the windlesses / handles .. paint with red oxide (boaters love red oxide paint) ,, an sell em at the locks 10 quid .. or 5 .. but id go with ten painted ,, you will sell them .. i just checked e bay the older ones are worth more , supose so be authentic with boat date ,, rest are 13 ... to 20 ,,
bet you get through some ropes the way you drag it over the concrete instead of lifting straight up you can from the vid that your line is fraying because of the way you use it. your also dragging whatever you get against the concrete lock wall thats why stuff keeps dropping off. some barges use tyres on ropes when going into locks to stop the hull hitting the concrete as they go in and out
Hi this is only my second rope since I started magnet fishing and I changed it because it was longer its fine at the moment thank, you things tend to drop off because of the silt on the items. You must make sure your magnet is clean every time you throw it in as this will calls problems if you dont.Thank you for comment all the best.
narrow boats ,, as working barges are rare ,, its mostly used by holiday boats and day cruisers ,, barges wer the old working boats ,,, butty boats wer towed by the working boat carrying extra loads.. usallly pulled by one oe 2 horses until they fitted engines .. sorry ... i lived on the cut/canal for ten years ,,

imagine the fun you could have magnet fishing in the river thames
That would be mind blowing, I dont know if you can use a magnet on the foreshore does anybody know out there. Thank you for you comment.
Probably best if you get one of these mudlarking permits, I have seen videos of mudlarking on the Thames which looked quite fun.
