It seems like Golem in general is just at a bad place for his power level. I feel like pre-Plantera is a better place for him, because then his weapons would be stronger in their current state and he'd be an actual threat as a boss
He's just too easy. Beat him with a shadowflame dagger and chlorophyte armor (no buffs, classic mode) in 2 tries because i'm playing on mobile and am not very good at terraria. Shadowflame dagger is just too op because of the effect.

Well you're SUPPOSED to fight Frost moon after golem according to the wiki but most people fight it early. Snowman Cannon is not a DPS weapon- several other ranged weapons at the same stage can kill bosses significantly faster. It doesn't need to be nerfed at all or else it won't even be worth the homing.
i think the only way that the stynger could be good is if you beat golem before the pumpkin and frost moon and use the stynger to farm both events, also de nail gun is pain to obtain soia think is not that bad
Ok but like, who doesn't do this? I almost always beat golem right after beating plantera. It's also pretty clearly the intended progression given that they're both in the jungle. I don't see why this should be a problem given how effective this thing is against invasions....
@@seedlesswatermelon566 almost nobody does this. Heck, I even fight both optional bosses before golem. When Plantera is defeated most people would want to get to the new stuff immediately instead of having to find and navigate through the temple beforehand.
Personally I love using this thing for the Martians. Excellent crowd control with tanky enemies. Obviously for bosses I’d swap to the snowman cannon, which has a “more centralized” AOE damage effect vs the stinger. Point is, if you want a closer AOE damage area, use the snowman cannon. If you want a significantly wider area, use the stinger. Honestly I collect both quite regularly in my playthroughs. Both are fantastic and have uses in my opinion.
The stynger seems to have three or more of its bullets crammed into the barrel, so I think making this thing fire 3 shots at once would be a nice buff and fix a minor infuriating detail
i've been doing an explosive stuff only run (just the theme or use of the weapon has to be explosive in some way) and the stynger was definitely decent even though i never felt the need to farm for it. its definitely an upgrade to the rocket launcher from the dungeon, but you're correct with the nail gun stuff, i just always used the nail gun more i'd love a buff to this thing, the shrapnel is fun, and this is coming from someone who had a great time with cluster rockets
in fact i always kept the rocket launcher on-hand specifically because it did self damage, which i would do on purpose until i died because self-inflicted kills respawn with full health and keeps coins which was useful in events
I think that this weapon is at least easy to obtain. I don't want to farm 3000 solar eclipses for a nail gun, and like said here, the stinger is really good for the first waves of the frost moon, so it can help you with getting the snowman cannon. Besides, that 2000-ish multi-target dps is basically equal to the Terra Blade, so it's by no means bad.
I want old heat ray back. Piercing. Lots of it. And like other magic pew pews…have it (and laser rifle) affected by meteor armor. Also, where did you get that event farm design? I’m looking for a good one.
The Stynger would massively benefit if it didn't have to use its own exclusive ammo and could instead shoot any form of rockets, with making the special effect over other launchers that it will always launch shrapnel no matter what rocket you put into it, similarly to how the snowman cannon adds homing to any rocket you put into it. It would at the very least give it a niche as the best crowd control launcher combining the Cluster Rockets and the Stynger's shrapnel. Another route would be to make it apply debuffs, as actual "stingers" in terraria tend to do. Perhaps the explosions of the stynger would apply poison or acid venom, and the direct hit would apply it for twice as long. Or maybe the shrapnel would be the part of the projectile that poisons. If they really wanted to buff the stynger, do both! Give it rocket compatability and poison on shrapnel hit.
Aw man, im getting a lot of nostalgia. When i beat Golem on my first playthrough, i got the stinger, and i absolutely loved it. This video brought me back to when i had friends to play the game with.
Trying to get the stynger was legit the most painful experience of getting an item across all my playthroughs, mostly because I just wanted to replace the bloody dart rifle. It took over 10 cells to get the stynger… and I lost to golem once, so shameful I was I lost to bloody golem.
I love the Stynger in concept. I love mini rocket launchers in games as a whole. What I would do for it is make it fire exactly like the Clockwork Assault Rifle. Have it fire faster (17 use time instead of 22) and in bursts of 3. This would probably be a piss-easy change to the thing and would make it far better.
The Piranha gun is so underrated imo. I love using it whenever i just dont feel like aiming, and the DPS is not bad at all, especially if you hit all 3 piranhas.
A fun way to buff it is to increase the firerate or flat out make it a triple shot weapon. There's 3 stingers at the end of the thing. Why can't it shoot 3 at once? Or maybe make it a triple burst weapon like the clockwork assault rifle? Would be coolio.
This is lowkey a great wepon if you know how to use it. Used it from golem to pillars last playthrough on master mode and had no issues until the pillars when the attack speed kinda struggled with the amount of enemies far from each other.
I typically choose stynger over nailgun because the nailgun is delayed damage, which is weird feeling since most terraria weapons do burst of damage first, not second. Stynger does well against old ones army and solar eclipse. It also serves as a decent ranged aoe summon weapon to supplement more single target focused summons like dessert tiger. Its a more niche weapon, but its easier to obtain than the nailgun. I feel like golem is easier than farming solar eclipse. Also the aoe potential for the stynger is much better than the nail gun, and easier to apply. 1.5 seconds is a long time if your relying on it to kill stuff before it reaches you. Id say they are both niche weapons, but neither are bad. Especially considering some peoples playstyles. Some may log 10 more hours in terraria post golem just building stuff and farming for accesories, in which case, stynger is an easy to use weapon that CAN do it all. It doesnt do any one thing well, but it is certainly reliable and versitile. Its a good jack of all trades option for a casual player who isnt limiting themselves to a single playstyle.
There is a rather simple bonus to point out that while it might not mean anything for pros will come in handy to casual players. Ammo cost The stynger is the cheapest of the weapons to use and that can make it good for just running around not doing anything real important. Nukes technically have a similar cost but the shroomite bar crafting requirement is a big factor that takes time. Yes money is less important the later you go but the expenses add up in the back ground. Again I'm not talking about pro players that at this point are just rushing the pillars. Just pointing out that the stynger is ironically a good inexpensive weapon for general use for casuals
Ya know, I wonder if the main reason for Golem’s existence is so that (newer) players can enter the postPlantera dungeon with no chance of accidentally fighting and killing the cultists and preemptively starting the pillars. Probably not, but hey, who knows.
I like using this weapon for farming frost/pumpkin moon. Yea you can't make me get the snowman cannon that early and when I was farming for the nailgun it took me 4 solar eclipses. This weapon is fine for how easy it is to obtain it.
To be give it some credit, I'd say that the stynger is MUCH easier to obtain than the snowman cannon and nail gun, which you compare it to (eg. don't have to farm event/rare drop). I get pretty good use out of it when it happens to drop during my ranger speedruns, and I find the effect pretty satisfying too (maybe just as important as usefullness!).
Im going to be honest. I found golem much harder then plantera in my first playthrough, killing plantera first try while golem took multiple attempts (although a small golem room and playing summoner might have had some hand in that, idk)

As person who mains ranger. The stynger is abysmal. It’s not bad, but there are definitely better weapons. I think they should increase the fire rate and make it fire more projectiles(like the sprite suggests it does)
I found it to be somewhat useful for gfb legendary mode bc it’s easier to kill golem than it is to take on frost or pumpkin moon, tho it wasn’t very useful for very long unfortunately

Tbh, not all bosses can be Duke in terms of endgame viability for the drops. Golem have some good stuff, like the eye or the sun stone, but the weapons are really bad. I remember when I discovered that heat ray was a magic weapon and tryed the first time. I was thinking it was great, to the point I thought it was a good weapon to gight Duke. Poor me, didn't realize razorpine was available and that is the true Duke shreder.

This isn't relevant to the video, but, I've recently started to use the stardust cell staff and it is really underrated, I was able to deafat moonlord with a full summoner build! You should review it as well.
I consider Golem to be badly balanced in general. He's too easy for his place in progression. Honestly thinking that he was supposed to be pre plantera, but then the devs noticed that the bulb was outside and he was just moved. If i were to try to rebalance Golem and his drops I would: Increase Golem's Firerate for all his long range abilities by 2x and projectile amount by 2x. Make Golem Fist fire 2 fists with homing and increased damage. And make Stynger apply a unique debuff that decreases Damage Resistance and doubles DoT of any other status.
I never used Stynger, its place in the progression sucks, basically there's no point in using it... well, from all the Golem's drops I only use Possessed Hatchet (I've tried all of those weapons and I guess Heat Ray is kinda good...)

The Stynger is definitely one of the golem drops I've seen. It's damage is definitely damaging and it's projectile is one of the most projectile

Unlike the fist I feel the this weapons more so overshadowed then just bad. It’s ok but there’s simply better options.

Why is everything about golem worse than pre-golem stuff...
golem is a lot harder than Plantera, mainly jus because 90% of the time when I fight golem I have 2 millimeters of space cuz bad temple rng ._.
