      The way in which one ought to saliently contend with the inherent incoherence of your previously stated sentiment might behoove oneself to ameliorate the question from a rule utilitarian framework.

      @@Omevoc The manner in which thou speaketh contends not only to the fascistic nature of Mr Steven Kenneth Bonnelli the 2nd, but to the salience of mine own sentiment, for which none can fall into behoovement as a result unless their condition is already inherently befallen to animalistic Buffoonery. No moral action within this aforementioned rule utilitarian framework runs so contrary to the perceived salience of thine own points than what thee hast gone so far as to accomplish now, and indeed I say this a moral anti-realist myself.

The fact that I don’t watch his videos at all before responding only shows how un-obsessed I am, as opposed to Destiny, who has the audacity to actually address my points.”

    I'm starting to realize why people hate Destiny. He is very good at being the villain. The problem is not just that Destiny is better at commentary than Vaush is, but Destiny is just in many ways a more interesting personality than he is. He continues to set the tone for political discussions despite being dwarfed by other streamers. The overwhelming variety of topics Destiny has brought to the table over the years. All the crazy people on the internet he has come into contact with. All the memes he has generated. Like, when I first found out who he was I had no idea how much shit I was getting into. Just the Ana drama alone this year can't really be compared to anything else on the internet. The dgg community is notorious. Destiny's legacy in this space was secured a long time ago. If Vaush really does hate Destiny, then that has to be a mindfuck for him.

    It's interesting how Vaush can make the argument that Destiny only disagrees with the left because of spite, implying that if he were an honest actor, he would agree with everything Vaush is saying, while simultaneously stating that Destiny never actually moved on from being a libertarian, he simply found a new political framework that allowed him to win debates and boost his ego, which Vaush of course states to justify saying that Destiny is really a reactionary. I'm genuinely curious how conscious Vaush is of this paradox, because it really seems to betray some insecurities on his part. It seems like Vaush genuinely needs to reassure himself that Destiny secretly would agree with everything he is saying, because Destiny played such a formative role in his character, but he also needs to plant this idea in his viewers' heads that everything Destiny says builds on reactinary politics, so he can attack him for classism, racism, sexism, etc. instead of addressing his arguments.

    If there is one issue the US doesn't have, it's starvation. The only people who starve in the US are neglected children, abused seniors in corrupt care facilities, and severely mentally disabled people without a caretaker for whatever reason. • @angusmarch1066
      @angusmarch1066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The real argument is that poor people cant necessarily afford to move away. It also seems highly unfair that the neighbourhood they grew up in suddenly begins to price them out and they should be the ones to move. Furthermore, this is pretty unsustainable long term. Say I grow up in Brixton, but now upper middle class people decide to move in and now the price of housing and ammenities goes up. So now I move to Peckham and the same happens again, so now I take my shit and I move all the way to, lets say Hackney, or Camden or Vauxhall or anywhere else in London that is supposed to be cheap and they all slowly become gentrified. At what point do I give up and go live in a cardboard box in a park?

    • @foop145
      @foop145 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angusmarch1066 I dunno what it's like in the UK, but moving is incredibly easy in the US. I worked minimum wage jobs for about ten years, and it's common practice to withhold a bit too much on your taxes so when you do them, you get around $2000 back. I knew a single mother with three kids who used this to move, and we lived in a relatively large city. Sure, this is anecdotal evidence, but I've worked all across the country, and this is standard practice everywhere I've been.
      Sure, gentrification sucks, no argument there. But if you want to live in the city, it's something you have to deal with. Your options aren't "live in London or live in a cardboard box," you can move to a cheaper part of the country.
      I'd argue this is very much sustainable. No matter how rich a city is, it's always going to need workers. If all the poor people are priced out, businesses will have to raise wages (or the city will do it for them in order to survive) if they want to have a workforce at all. Take NYC for example; minimum wage there is over $13/hr, which is nearly double the federal minimum wage. As far as I can tell, London isn't quite as extreme, but it looks like minimum wage is around £2.50 higher than most other places in the UK. So what you're talking about is already being addressed

    • @angusmarch1066
      @angusmarch1066 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@foop145 I cant speak to all you've said about taxes. I wont pretend to understand all of what you said in your first point, so I will defer to your experience on that matter. However with gentrification I do not agree that this is something you should just have to live with. This isnt about some high chested students who want to live in London beyond thier means. We are talking about working class people who have lived in the city all thier lives, have roots, family and friends in the city. How or why should they be expected to move in order to make room for richer people? And with what money? We are facing a big cost of living crisis in the UK with a large swaythe of people unable to afford gas or electricity, and this is countrywide, not just London. So if you get priced out of London and you were already having to choose between food and gas, theres not gonna be much hope for you to even set up shop elsewhere, and even then your problems will no doubt be just as bad. And, with respect, I dont feel like you have answered my point well. Upper class people dont just stay to one neighbourhood. They go whereever is cheap or trendy. And that generally means places where working class people have built communities. So when I move now to Liverpool from London and then that gets gentrified, and so on and so forth, it will eventually reach the point that I run out of places that I cam afford. You mentioned a wage raise in London, but given that wages are insanely behind inflation, its highly unlikely even with a minimum wage rise that you will be able to afford to keep your home. So what do you say to a person who runs out of options? Furthermore, there isnt much of a labour incentive to solve these problems because corporations will just expect you to commute to get to work. Now we revisit your first point, because as I admitted, I didnt fully understand it and there may be something I'm missing. Can you please explain further?

    • @foop145
      @foop145 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Angus March sure I can explain. In the US, when you're filling out your tax forms for a job, you can decide how much to withhold from your paycheck. The idea is that you automatically give the government a part of your paycheck so you don't have to pay as much come tax time. However, most workers err on the side of caution and withhold more than they might need to. So when tax time comes around, the government has taken more than they are owed, so they return the difference, which usually comes out to be about $2k. People use this to buy TVs or computers or whatever, but it's common to use it to move.
      In terms of gentrification, you're right that it sucks to basically be kicked out of your home, I fully agree. But what's the solution? A lot of places have fixed rent to alleviate this problem. But the end of the day, you can't tell a property owner how much they're allowed to charge people living in it.
      I honestly can't speak to the UK. Some cursory looking indicates that the cost of living problem is driven by COVID, but I know very little about your country, so you might be right about it. In America, however, there are plenty of places with low costs of living. If you're living in a city like LA or NYC, these are some of the most expensive cities on the planet. Living in a big city like this as a minimum wage worker means making sacrifices in exchange for the cultural and commercial benefits. Those sacrifices are usually things like commuting if you want to work in the heart of the city, and having roommates. You don't get to have an easy life and live in an expensive city.
      Again, I don't know the UK, but this is entirely sustainable. The only reason huge cities have such shitty living conditions for poor people is because people are willing to put up with it. Moving somewhere cheaper not only alleviates your financial problems, but it incentivizes corporations to hike wages in the city to hang on to you. Again, it doesn't matter how rich a city is, they need workers. If they lean on workers too much, the workers leave, and rich people aren't going to stock grocery shelves themselves, so they'll leave too. If you run out of places to live, there's a serious underlying problem with your country that has nothing to do with gentrification. A country or city can't run with exclusively rich people living in it. Someone's gotta sweep the floors, stock the stores, and make the food.

      @@foop145 hello, sorry for the late reply, Im sure youve stopped being invested in this conversation by now, but I just saw the comment so I'll respond.
      Your points were:
      1) your explanation of US tax rebates.
      2) gentrification as an unfortunate yet unavoidable reality.
      3) your assessment of the UK's living wage crisis.
      4) the harsh reality of living in cities.
      5) gentrification being sustainable.
      1) thats very interesting. we in the UK dont handle our own taxes directly unless we own businesses, which is why I knew so little. Im sure a windfall like that would be a help to someone trying to move. And yet, people find themselves unable to afford rent and out of thier homes. Im not being cheeky, but can you help me to understand why that is? If such a readily available loophole is present, what is the problem?
      2) I think this shrugging off of gentrification as a sad fact of life is a bit reductive. Im not disputing that it is a fact of life, Im disputing whether or not it need be a fact of life. You seem to be content with it being so despite being morally opposed to it. I think thats part of the problem. You argued that "we cant tell landlords how much to charge for accomodation" and I would argue that not only can we but we should. You brought up rent controls yourself, thats a start. I would tentatively argue as well that incentivising housing co-ops (dont make that face), could also go a ways to ensuring that people are able to hold onto their homes, while allowing deprived neighbourhoods to be developed freely. Then they could actually enjoy the benefits of said development instead of having to move somewhere else shitty.
      3&4) youre right that the cost of living crisis has been exacerbated by covid, but it has been a long time coming. Brexit, cuts to welfare, rapid inflation, now we have the Russo-Ukrainian war which is going to cause food and oil costs to rise further. Covid was just one of many staws that broke the camel's back. Once again, you are chalking the whole issue up to a harsh reality and I dont think thats enough of an argument. You've admitted that you cant speak fully to the UK experience, so I dont want to be a prick and speak fully to the American experience, but since you brought up NYC, I have seen videos of the apartments that go on sale in NYC for like half a million dollars, and if you can show me where in one of those coffin flats, you could fit yourself and enough roomates to cover that cost, I will genuinely fly to your part of the States and and suck your dick. Cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, swallow the gravy. I dont believe that being able to comfortably afford your living accomodation constitutes easy living. If youve been paying your rent comfortably for years and your landlord deliberately decides to price you out to appeal to a new market, then that shouldnt have to sinply be something you live with. Putting out an ad for roommates might be all well and good for a single person, but what about the person with a family? Im sure these problems can be overcome, but my point is that they shouldnt be present in the first place. There are steps you can take to avoid being burgled. With that being the case, should we stop trying to arrest burglars, because they are just a fact of life?
      4) No, I dont think gentrification can be sustainable. People arent 'willing' to put up with anything, they are forced to put up with shitty living conditions, again because they cant afford anything better. The things you are saying, while optimistic, do not track with reality. In London, the rich who do not feel like spending a load of money living in the city, move out to Reading, or Ascot, or Surrey, or some other sleepy outskirt town with low housing costs. The people who live in the city are either hipster liberals or people genuinely living hand-to-mouth in overpriced accomodation. There is no price hike to be seen. The point you are making about labour leaving the cities is also flawed by the point that like I said, alot of times gentrification happens between districts rather than across whole cities. You yourself brought up that many people will have to commute to work in the heart of the city and this is true. It defeats your argument about cities leaking labour, because if you can commute to the city or borough you work in, then the labour market loses absolutely nothing from you being evicted from your house and if it does there will always be someone closer, who desperately needs the second or third job in order to pay their extortionate rent.

      This is literally the exact opposite of reality.
      First off, how is Destiny "reactionary and inconsistent"? What positions does he hold that are purely reactionary and not built on his currently existing axiomatic beliefs?
      Second off, Vaush has literally admitted himself to not having consistent principles because it makes it easier to "win" when you don't have to stake out a point you actually care about.
      Here is his exact quote: "You call it selling out your principles? I call it fucking winning and that's my principle. To win as a socialist, not to lose as a socialist.". Clearly he doesn't care about selling out socialist principles if it means he can "win". This is literally the opposite of believing what he says and having principles.
      Third, Destiny has said, multiple times, that he is obviously going to target what he perceives to be a bigger threat in the space. Nazis were a bigger threat back when edgy atheism was trending, now the left has won the culture war and far leftism is more of a threat, the nazis are absolutely irrelevant in the online space, they lost.
      Fourth, you clearly just didn't listen to what Destiny said about NFTs. He specified the issue with people who promote NFTs is that a huge amount of them are lying to you and grifting because they tell or imply to you that the NFT is a valuable object that will increase in value and can be sold on for profit. Just selling someone an NFT in and of itself is not an immoral act, lying to them about what they can do with it is.
      It's like selling someone a car. Is it immoral? No. What if I sold it to them saying it will fix their life problems, cure their cancer, and make their wife come back to them? Now it's immoral because I'm lying. But that doesn't make the sale of the car itself, it means the method by which I'm getting the sale is the immoral part. Same with NFTs.
