  • Thrash and prog metal band Motivik's sophomore effort "Renouncement" (2024) is this week's pick for my Album of the Week. I take a look at Roxx Records limited bundle of the album that included a colored vinyl copy, 2 CD's (one of the album and one of some early demos) and a button of the album art. I'll also give a full review of the spiritual themes of the album and, of course, the music itself.
NOTE: I have been pronouncing the band's name wrong - in this video and others - for awhile now. It should be pronounced MOE-TEA-VICK. Sorry about that and apologies to the band. Thanks to Courtney and Ryan for setting me straight on that. :)

I heard this album the other day. I liked it first time through. I believe it will be even better with more listens. Thanks for the thorough review Tim!

It's good and a grower of an album for me. Kind of layers of meaning that I find get peeled back on additional listens.

Awesome Tim!! They’re a little too heavy for me. 😊

Totally understand. Their first album was a bit of a stretch for me, as I mentioned - and I'm not usually a big thrash guy either (Deliverance grew on me over time) - but the lyrics and spiritual content are winning me over and opening me up more to their music as well. I'll likely never be a full on thrash or doom metal guy, but I'm trying to stretch beyond my comfort zone, at least a bit. 😁

@@TimRistow I more and more focus on the goals of artists. I kind of got disappointed on some who claim to be christians but follow another agenda. So the desire grew in me to focus on who those people are and if they not only seem cool or attractive but are very close to the heart of God, whatever kind of style they use. Whenever the heart is pure the ministry will be amazing. I see lots of artists fall away from Christ and some even very, very proud. It shocks me but it is a sign, God wants us deep and close by his side in these days. We can nit afgord anymore to step one step away from God. Our gearts need to be purified and holy in the sense of honest and humble. Music then will catch me way more.
Nit about freaky super worship, no, about holy hearts and Jesus loving true people. Just what moves me.

@@Motivikband Aargh! Sorry guys! My bad. Forgive me. I'll be sure and correct that for the future (because I WILL be doing future videos on your music and albums :) I think I heard someone else pronounce it the way I say it here in the review and thought that was accurate. I should've taken an extra moment to double-check that. I'll note the correct pronunciation in the description of this video.

Buttons are nice, but it looks a bit like a demon with horns .... I am always seeing everything. So maybe it is just me seeing this

I think there may be a couple of possible interpretations on this artwork. The button IS small and hard to see - and I'm not very big on buttons anymore - but it's an interesting little bonus item.
