Thanks so much for this, my understanding of tenor clef is holding me back, this explains it well. I'm managing to struggle my way through a couple of pieces now.
Johnathan, thank you for answering the question of do we use tenor clef on the C and G strings. I was wondering about that now that I'm learning tenor clef.
Now, if usually the tenor clef doesn't use the lower part of the stave, so below A3, which is just 2 ledger lines below the stave in clé de sol, why not just use the clé de sol directly? 😅 Having learnt the clé de sol in music school as a kid, reading the clé de fa is already challenging to transpose 2 notes above, but at least it stays on a line or on a space. Transposing 1 note above with the clé d'ut is a nightmare because now a space is a line and a line is a space 😂 Another question would be, why don't violinists have another clé as well for the high positions on the E string? :D Those ledger lines are even more confusing
I’m here because I was in a chamber youth group and playing Scheherazade and the to my horror the cellos had a section where the base cleff was now a treble cleff….😅 it was shockingly interesting

Okay, Jonathan. This is above my level of understanding. I will review it.
My Cello is a 5 String Cello so I could actually read the Octave Lower Treble Clef so great for playing Violin pieces 8vb

Thank you for explaining this!!! Do you have a video explaining the Treble clef on the cello?
