Why Dominik Szoboszlai Is Already Liverpool's Most Important Player

- Dominik Szoboszlai arrived at Liverpool with a reputation for being a flying, goal-scoring wide attacker. And yet, even in his earliest appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side, he's become one of the most dynamic and effective central midfielders in the Premier League. Adam Clery examines why, despite some criticism over his attacking output, he's become the central figure in the team looking far more dangerous than it has in recent seasons.

the most complete midfielder alongside Bellingham right now. can score bangers, excellent at set pieces, good in dribbling, out of the world stamina and enduance, pressing on another level, can play like 7 positions, superb tactical understanding, great leadership qualities and maturity. what amazes me is the way he took responsibility for Liverpool's lack of number 6: unusual to see a very technical player that gives this much defensively. Imagine when he starts showing his attacking qualities more often when Liverpool sign a number 6
Apart from corners, his set pieces haven't particularly been impressive as of yet. I
I'm sure they will come around however.
We already have a number 6.
Endo might not be the greatest, but it is certainly better than Macca at defensive duties.
His work has been shown in Japan and in the last game he played for Liverpool.
@@paultaylor9498mate goals are not the most important part of a midfielder you do realise that
@@paultaylor9498that’s where ur wrong, they play a different role.
Bellingham play as outgoing AMF with no striker while Szoboszlai more as an 8 with 3 attackers in front, covering RB when track back, slot in RW when Salah inverting.
Play him as KDB he will give lots of assists. Play him as Bellingham he will score lots of goals
@@paultaylor9498 mate you do realise that sobo is playing a different role to Bellingham he playing like an 8 he's not getting the chances that Bellingham is getting each game because he's not playing in his preferred position and he has more than delivered so far you can't deny that
I agree: Eye-ball test he looks most astute with the ball: Good decision-making, skill on the ball, linking and positioning with the team etc.
In a serious team, Dominik Szoboszlai's passes would have resulted in 6-8 goals....per game, he has 3-4 passes that would have been a goal pass elsewhere!!!
Strikers should concentrate more!!!
You seem to have the same crush on him that Liverpool fans do lol they can watch him all day too
I mean... anyone could just look at any picture of him and you will get a crush on him
@@Huga312very true lol
@@Huga312 True he is just like Joel Matip in that regard
@@olliered9924 Dom got nothing on Matip if I'm honest
@@Huga312 virgil & dominik
I can't believe how quivkly he has settled in and that we got him seekingly without competition. Sensational footballer, makes the difficult look ordinary
I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure Liverpool managed to find a buried clause in his contract that let him leave for that release clause, I think they only found it with like a few days left to activate it and that’s why it gone done so quickly, it wasn’t a known release clause
Supposedly Newcastle were in for him but then went for Tonali, and Man United couldn't chase him because they spunked their lunch money on Hojlund and Mount, while Chelsea were trying to spend as much money as possible on defensive mids. Arguably City might have been in for him, but they have plenty of midfielders.
@@niallkelly8210 Things can move very quickly if the player definitely wants the move and the club comes with a fair offer. 60m is not cheap, even if he is looking like a gem at that price. If the player decides to be stubborn, there will be zero competing bids, because his agent will let it be known that terms for a new contract will not be agreed to by the player to any other club.
The delays come when the player has some degree of interest in a bidding war. That lends leverage to the club indirectly.
In this case, I think Klopp made a phone call to Szoboszlai that was persuasive, his agent liked the terms offered, and the rest is history. It surely did not hurt that Jurgen could say with 99.9% certainty that Dom could look forward to playing alongside one of the best midfielders from Qatar22 -- a man with a gold WC medal on his wall.
Keep in mind that the other club likes to do business quickly, too. A pile of cash in the bank early gives them flexibility for how they do business for the summer.
If it weren't for what Bellingham is doing at Real Madrid, Szoboszlai would be the most lauded player in Europe.
Oh yeah he would with his 1 goal and no assists this season 🤦♂
yeah cos goals and assists are everything right?@@sean0o0808
@@sean0o0808 2 goals 1 assist. And if that's the way you judge a players quality and contribution to a team you're as clueless as your stats..
@@SW-by9ob I was referring to the prem. Anyway I obviously judge on a lot more than stats but to say he'd be as lauded as Bellingham is absolute hyperbole
@@sean0o0808pedri rarely gets assits . Will u judge him by G/A ?? Clown . Top 10 cms but u clown say he ain't got G/A 😂
Mcmanaman style. Always the pass before the assist.
He is a genius. And as you said he could have 2-3 assists / game but unlucky teammates missing the chances . Also he doesn’t get the ball sometimes when he is in a clear position to score . Is it just me or someone else noticed this ?
I agree. It also seemed to me that his teammates did not want to put him in a situation on purpose.
i noticed this too. why don't they want to put him in situation?
yeah specially Mo Salah refuse to pass him the ball , multiple times, He probably struggle to accept Szobo as the start and the leader of the team , even this weekend game , Salah just shot a bad angle over passing Szobo at the 16M line... Its always hard when "new sheriff in the town" old stars having EGO and jealousy
@@fullfradi95 exactly! I´m glad others saw that too 👍
There are a couple factors. (1) Liverpool makes fewer shots on goals from outside the box compared to chances to do so, because they are stats driven and look to produce big chances within the box. (2) Szobo, Salah, Trent all like to drift into that same area near the top of the box on the right -- they are working this out over time but it has not always been smooth.
Szobo and maddison have been top signings this season! If there dorm continue they will be world class in no time
So is there a stat for chances created, but missed by teammates? 😂 Then Szoboszlai can legitimately "moan" at his wasteful teammates!
Salah takes penalties😂😂😂. And darwin is the second taker, who is as amazing😂. So duh he never even shot a pk for liverpool. The guy has no weakness really. The only thing you could ask questions about is his left foot. But then again he scored with it. Against wolves there was a moment he lost the ball when he passed it with his right when the left footed pass would of been better. It was a short ball which gave wolves a chance
I feel if everything is keep going how it's been so far, another 10-12 games and we will see even more crazy things from Szoboszlai. Remember 1: He is new to the club and league. 2: He is new for the team mates, they will understand him better. 3: There's a full new midfield. As individuals and as an unit they are still learning. It's already impressive and wonderful how well they function.
In the future maybe spring or next season it would be great to see Szoboszlai in front 3 left to Gakpo. He is multifaceted skillful guy whose abilities haven't been discovered widely yet. Klopp has to keep pushing him into different roles and make him grow in multiple positions. Also Szoboszlai should keep his hunger and ambition. If Pool will have a safe and solid midfiels with Endo/Mac Allister/Gravenberch we could see a CR- like, Neymar-ish, Vinicius kind of play on the left front from Szoboszlai. I just say he has that potential.
Dear Sir! Everything you say is excellent, but... even after all this time, you still can't pronounce Szoboszlai's name correctly?! This is negligence, maybe a language school can help, and until then I: SO-BOS-LA ----E !!! PRACTICE, okay?! Thank you very much!
Klopp has built an entire new midfield which is truly remarkable and even when Liverpool did not have Champions League football and the likes of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai and Gravenberch along with Endo our midfield looks entirely different more speed box to box players and with Szoboszlai you have the whole package and yet he is only 23 years old which is well and truly frightening for the opposition and boy can he play the £60 million quid we spent on him is well and truly money well spent and we are only 2 points of Spurs and our midfield is only going to get better and better with each season.
Roll on Forest and Toulouse YNWA
the first time i saw Dom Sob play, i remember thinking to myself that he will be a liverpool player for many years and i can see him being captain too. He is a young foreign player, but has great english and massive confidence. he has also fitted in perfectly in the most challenging league in the world. Hellava player guys. the future is bright!!!
shame he has silly little feet..............but you cant have everything!
His small feet is an advantage. He can aim and shoot better.
He'll be vice captain to Trent once Virgil hangs up his boots or moves on without a doubt.
2 assists today lol
Wow, thinking bout it now, I watched the game Sunday, and that is literally what it looked like, dam.
Super Szobo the Dom
DOMination SzoBOSSlai
So perfect that, following this, he went and put on a MOTM performance against Forest and added 2 assists to his tally. Watching him (and Mac Allister & Gravenberch), after how laboured our midfield was last season has been so good.
Best midfielder in the league
Scary thing is I don’t think he’s anywhere near his potential
Since when this analysis released we've already seen the first two assists of him against Nottingham Forest. So, I expect more to come. And I really beleive, that the key is the cooperation with Salah. If they can work together, great outcomes will be.
Mate. This is one of the best channels out there now. FFT are very lucky. Great insight.
Hugs from Hungary 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺⚽️⚽️⚽️
They've literally played this system every game since last April.
Pretty sure he just picked up two assists in a stand-out performance at the weekend.
And the annoying part about him is that he's quick and he always tracks back
I love Henderson for what he brings but I am glad Szobo came in to replace him 😅
so many chances he created omg, all wasted...
You know footy!!
Happy birthday, captain !!
His goal against Leicester was a ROCKET!!
Unpopular opinion: one of the reasons Liverpool are in form, because of the man next to Dom.
Jones might have no flare and lacks creativity on midfield, but he is also the reason the other two midfielders can do what they do. He’s an all rounder, that’s all over the pitch and is very good at counter pressing.
Not to take the spotlight off dom of course, he’s so good in our midfield.
they made a video about this too !
Lmao jones. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@jorritvanderkooi939say you don’t watch Liverpool without saying you don’t watch Liverpool. He’s been one of our important players in midfield this season without a doubt

Watching this after his performance against Nottingham
Brilliant analysis.
Good stuff as always, thanks. I love him. My only concern is that he has already played 70% of the maximum minutes he has ever played in a season. He's made himself indispensable and he's being run into the ground. 🙏🤞
Szoboszlai is sublime. On another note, it kinda rubs me in a weird and phony way when a young kid wears a retro Man City shirt, pretending he was supporting them, when they weren't relevant through oil money. The kid can't probably even remember there was a Man City before the oil money. You ain't fooling no one kid.

His a super player
boy, he is a gorgeous man
Great analysis 👍🏻
All the blabbers from media only points at one thing :
Liverpool midfields are old, slow, and pushed too up front for their liking. With the new younger more athletic players they are back to where they belong. Midfield is the engine for the team
great analysis, less than great chroma key
imagine if we signed bellingham and szobo at the same time for 170 odd millions
Amazing talent, but Alisson is the best keeper in the world, and is personally responsible for more points than any other Liverpool player (yes, even Dom and Salah).
He is decent:)

Do you think a similar video can be made for macalister? He's also getting a lot of flack because people seem to think every midfielder should have KDBs goal output
I can make one of his turnovers and wide open missed passes, sometimes completely unmarked. Dude hasn't done anything, yall weird

@@sorinruga3434 Watch every game. He's struggling playing at 6/CDM as clearly doesn't suit him. Too many sloppy passes, lacks urgency and not a great tackler.
The problem for him is that Szobo and Grav are both exceptional attacking midfielders so Mac will likely find himself on the bench if we bring in a proper 6.
@@SW-by9obwho would have thought someone who has never played as a 6 would struggle as a 6. We haven't even seen macallister in his actual position . How do u conclude that grav is already ahead of him?
@@sbndsanghamitrasarkarpc Completely agree he is being played out of position but it should be clear to anyone with eyes that Grav is the more talented footballer.
Maca will be a great signing, but along with Szobo I believe Grav could be a generational talent and one of the worlds best.
Allison is most important, we’d have lost 3 games already if not for him.

van dijk, matip, quansah
allison

jota, gakpo, ben doak
curtis jones, harvey elliot
endo, robbo/tsimikas

stop playing macca as a number 6 and move him up to a num 8
playing with our 2 back midfielders being trent and macca would be too offensive
knowing robertson he would always run up leaving the defense with 2 men so i picked matip
playing nunez first would leave klopp with more options if he wants to play jota as cf
i wanna see more of quansah so yea and robbo is injured so tsimikas
Love him as a liverpool fan,new Gerald!
