I have spent hours trying to figure this out, including watching numerous TH-cam videos ... and you helped me solve my issue in 2 minutes and 21 seconds. THANK YOU!

This horizontal axis date issue was driving me nuts. Your video was very helpful! Thank you very much for posting it!

Thank you, Josh, it worked perfectly with Excel for Mac v 16.7. Now I have to ice the lump on my forehead. With such a common requirement, you'd think Excel would default to actual dates.

Thank you! for this video. I was trying to use exact dates for my company's income and Excel was putting all the dates in between my calendar dates. I really appreciate your help!

I still cant figure it out. I did everything as shown in this video but my values column becomes the chart title, and the charted graph only has one entry for the bottom date

Didnt work, it just jumbled up all my dates into an unreadable mess

I guess you didn’t notice changing the axis to text completely changed your chart? I suspect all your data points are evenly spaced and no longer proportional to the dates the data was recorded.

I suppose that's what he wanted. I'll usually want data points proportional to actual time (shows dates with tick marks every 14 days on mine). Thanks.. I hadn't thought of this.

Thanks for this video but please how do we separate time and plot the time in a graph 📊

  • @vincentmarotta9800

Note: Due to Excel just deciding this is the way it needs to be, this "Axis Type" option ONLY appears when you use a LINE, and NOT with Scatter plot.
This is ridiculous. Why can't I date scatter points? Even if they're crushed together, I should at least be able to see the range of dates on the x-axis.
Fix this, Excel. Don't choose to be this way.

Anyone know how to solve the same problem on a MAC
    Thanks, in anticipation

the solution shown only works if you always have the same time distance between Y values.

I think you mean x values but yeah you are right. Did you figure out how to graph if with uneven x values?

I notice that if you try to plot a "scatter with smooth lines", then the option "Axis Type" will become unavailable. Can anyone fix this as well?

It'd be nice is microsoft streamlined how to do common sense things in excel rather than rearranging the tool bar version after version.
