This review was originally posted in June 2012, and is the third and final crossover that was filmed during the production of To Boldly Flee (along with Metal Man and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen); this is a re-edited version that runs 2m 50s shorter than the original, and has been upscaled to HD and noise reduction applied to the audio. There have been numerous cuts to the film clips, which I've trimmed to reduce to a minimum, especially those with songs (for obvious reasons). I think this sits among my personal favourite crossovers, and I know it has been very highly viewed in the past. If you're wondering, no, I still have not seen The Road Chip, the fourth film in the series - although That Sci-Fi Guy actually appears in that as an extra, which is pretty funny. Hope you enjoy!

I think the only reason why I used to like the live action chipmunk movies was because of the animation. That's about it. How do you feel about the animation?
I think the animation of the chipmunks themselves is quite good (you can see in this entry how much it visibly improved from the first). More often that not, it's the material that's the problem.

Fun fact: before Wonder Woman, this was the highest grossing live-action movie directed by a woman.

The real reason why Jason Lee was in Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (2009) for a short time was because he was still working on the show "My Name is Earl" at the same time at that year.

Fun Fact: The main reason why Jason Lee (who played Dave Seville in the four live action Alvin and the Chipmunks movies) has little screentime in this movie, compared to the other three live action Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, is because at the same time this movie was being made, Jason Lee was under scheduling conflicts to work on the final season of the TV series "My Name is Earl."
And thus, most of his scenes in this movie were given to Toby Seville (played by Zachary Levi (pre-Shazam! (2019) and Tangled (2010)).
I am, to this very day, amazed at the chemistry between Todd and Matthew. They're an amazing comedic pair.
Reviews done in hotel room beds with guest stars are a Classic.
Would argue that in the case of terrible covers of "Hot n cold" Kidzbop is actually worse. This is how they handled that pms-line: "You be a mess, like a girl, I would know." Yup.

Since the Channel Awesome debacle, the crossover and interaction of the classic youtubers have diminished. Which is sad because they are all still hilarious.
We do still get some crossovers, Blockbuster Buster just had Linkara and Lupa on his show. They’re harder to work around though now that they’re not united under the ch*nnel *wesome banner. So they’re like a rare treat and should be savoured
I don’t think the crossovers have diminished that much, since it seems the main problems were surrounding the management and, to a lesser extent, Doug

In the 4th movie, they get rid of a line about liquor (to water) while covering Uptown Funk, but keep the 'white gold' part. I think about that a lot.

I think that's likely because this review is actually based around reviewing the movie, and not waste time on random skits.

@Gracekim1 Actually, he only does clipless reviews when it comes to movies like that (though Suicide Squad was already released on Blu-Ray when he made the review) and while his reviews were focused on actually reviewing the movies in question, his more recent reviews just cut to weird skits that don't flow as well and have jarring greenscreen effects (very evident in his Alvin & the Chipmunks review near the end).
And this movie (along with the other two in the trilogy) is the reason why David Cross hates Hollywood.

Also why did the jocks need a comeuppance at the end? They befriended Alvin and he helped them win the big game. Did the movie just forget that????

The Chipmunks movie should have come out last year. You could make a realistic case for this story In our Brave Newer World of Jake/Logan Pauls, deranged fan cultures, and truly endless cute animal videos.
They're not related, and they haven't known each other for very long, so being love interests wouldn't be weird. Though living together might make things awkward.

Controversy erupted over a gag where the dog is being uh, inspected in a private place during the show and is told to just ignore it or something along those lines. Several parents thought it was a bad message for children.

One thing I miss from the channel awesome days are crossovers. Some critics really worked well together and there are so many pairings I always wanted to see but never happened.

Does anybody have the Alvin and the chipmunks movies that were made in 80's/90's. I have like 3 movies and a DVD with a few episodes from the show. The movie I remember vividly was the one where both the chipmunks and chipettes get caught up in a gem chase or whatever. It was actually good and I enjoyed the movie the first live action chipmunk movie wasn't a masterpiece but it is compared to this mess and then they had the AUDACITY to make a 3rd movie!
After 4, Fox knew enough was enough and stopped making them altogether.

Glad I didn't watch this in full. I apparently have a peeve for how people sing songs... and this movie pretty much wants me to turn the volume down every time the 'munks sing... just feels like a cheap Glee knock off...

I really wish the live action movies had the same kind of writers that the paddington movies had, the chipmunks was a good animated series and it deserves writers who care and are not just looking for a cash grab. There was a kid at my school who had that done to him and from what I understand, they dunked his head in the water for too long and he couldn't breathe which lead to severe brain damage. 30 years later and that guy is still confined to a wheelchair. He seems to cope alright but still, he would still be able bodied had it not been for a gang of school bullies.

They have the Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) and the theme songs of their various TV shows.
Yes, actually. I grew up with the series and the two 90s movies. The two 90s movies had entirely original scores while the series had the occasional original song.
It was actually disappointing actually because some of the original songs are catchy and I looked them up to find their original versions (as, like many of their other songs, I assumed they were covers). But alas, not only were they original to the chipmunks (and therefore don't have versions without the annoyingly high pitched voices) but they don't tend to release the original stuff officially (because yes, there's some songs I actually really like and I do listen to them when I'm in the mood to/can tolerate the voices for a while - nostalgia does help with that)
Even the two 90s movies don't have released scores (though The Chipmunk Movie from the 80s did, however, one song in there is a cover)
Going even more historically, they were a coverband in the 50s/60s too as aside from a couple of exceptions, they covered things like The Pigeon English Hula or Dr Dolittle's Talk to the Animals
I'd like to end on a little fun fact while I'm here: They once even got Alvin to cover I'm Too Sexy and it is the CRINGIEST thing to ever exist. He's an 8-year old in the canon that existed at the time. An 8 year old putting on "sexy moans" and singing that he's too sexy for his cap - it's genuinely horrific lmao
The first two chipmunk movies are like guilty pleasures for me. I didn't care for the third movie. I highly recommend you check out the recent cgi chipmunk series on Nickelodeon. It's a remake of the original chipmunk series.
