    If it’s supposed to look like a vinyl record player, they nailed it

    It’s beautiful, but you’re right. They are clearly targeting people with already a sizable collection looking for something different. Because someone like me who would have to save up quite a while to afford a watch like this would most likely go with a Christopher Ward or a more well known brand before purchasing this. But it’s a hell of a watch despite the lack of minute markers. Stupid ass OCD… thanks for the great review!

    I think that it's a sharp looking watch, but given the poor lume and the price, I don't think I'd be buying it.
    Once a microbrand clears $1000, I tend to stop looking into them.
    Great review Shane! Congrats on winning CrunchTrek too, it was certainly a fun event.

    As i said in another review of this, i totally respect all the effort and design elements, but struggle to see it kept in a collection, long term.
    Thanks for the review Shane, be well mate.
    PS Lugs are kind of an (Zodiac) Olympos and (Vacheron) Corn de Vache mix, or some fancy bike spoiler, ain't so?

    I always like the reviews and another good one. Thank You. 1.2 K is expensive. This watch, with the three colorways, I see the Marloe Coniston doing it a little better at a lower price. Marloe has the same colorways (an all-white in an older version) for their automatic for less than $500.00.

    Myself I just purchased a Bulova Lunar Pilot Meteorite dial a LTD Edition of 5000 pieces. I was looking for something different and this piece brought something new to my collection, one a Bulova and a cool factor of Space Watch history arrives on the moon with the Apollo 15 . But a fair question is was it as significant as Omega ? Honestly I believe it is and while it was not the NASA issue the Omega crystal came off and the backup Bulova was there to take over Unofficially but There in place as a backup by a crewman and became a significant instrument in timing the Apollo 15 mission. I believe it was a wise choice for my collection and a beautiful watch.

    Definitely an interesting design. Reminds me of the two piece dial Zodiac Glorious from the late 50s early 60s with that hour marker ring. Have you covered any of the boderry watches yet?

  • @m.k.1340
    @m.k.1340 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Beautiful piece, and I love the unique details, like the flared lugs and the concave bezel, and the dial looks fantastic. However, once you mentioned the price, the competitor that I was thinking of took the lead by a large margin. What competitor? Marloe Coniston Automatic. Like this Somerset, also available in black, blue, and white color ways with a dressy 5-minute index dial with concentric detail elements. The movement is japanese, rather than swiss, designed in Scotland rather than Singapore, but less than half the price for a similar effect. This Somerset may be the better piece, but better than a Coniston Auto AND another watch besides? That is not a criticism of Tennet or the Somerset at all, just a personal purchasing choice. One can almost always cut the price in half, and find two other watches to choose, depending on how much one is willing to give up on design or specs.

    A few days ago I had a thought, why isn't there red lume.
    That case and movement are exceptional. I dislike big crowns but that one is nice. Nothing under the glass is appealing to me except the orange lume placement.
    Great review as always Shane 👍

      Yeah.. brands tend to stick with c3 or bgw9 because it's the strongest. I remember having one with black I'm lume. Looked cool, But performance sucked

    Interesting looking watch. I’d like to see more white in the hour hand in width and more white on the minute hand in length. Seems a bit dark. And the hands are too subtle.
    I’m not sure $1,200 price point clicked enough boxes to justify the price. Thanks for the review!

  • @Jason-hv4eu
    @Jason-hv4eu หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good review and video👍🏻 I agree with your points. If you are going to put lume on a watch you need to do it well. I would also prefer minute markers for the same reason you expressed. The price point is too steep. I just purchased a Wise ADAMASCUS AD820A with the Stainless 904L Bracelet. This watch does not have a Swiss movement but it is still a Miyota 9015 28,800 bph, 24 jewels movement. I spent less than $700 for this watch.

    Looking down on the lugs they resemble a particular vintage Omega case.
    Nice watch. I wouldn't buy it at the asking price tho. I think the mark up is likely much more the the CW stated 3x.
    Lots of brands coming out of Singapore.

    Cool watch Shane, but on a manual, I'm like you and I couldn't accept no minute markers to set the watch. If it was a an auto, it might be cool enough looking to make me get an auto winder, but alas.

    How is the JIANGHUN watch on your wrist?
    I’m tempted by their introduction model, specifically the purple one.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good eyes. Working on that one, hope to have it out before the end of next week.
      It's interesting... There are aspects of it I really like, yet at the same time I feel lukewarm about it as a whole. If that makes any sense.
      The only really negative thing about it is that the strap is really stiff. And will take a while to break in. Which ruins the experience wearing it right out of the box.
      But put it on a new strap. That's more flexible, and it's much more comfortable. Lug the lug is longer than I like, there's some overhang, but overall comfortable.

    Following the thread of discussion towards the end of this review, it does seem that many microbrands are aiming at the entry level luxury tier in terms of pricing. Absent any history or prestige, this trend could possibly torpedo the hopes of many an aspirant microbrand owner. In contrast, the implication of exclusivity and heritage, when paired seamlessly with the FOMO social media propelled hype train have proven to drive significant sales numbers amongst the enthusiast crowd. The value proposition philosophy that was so much a part of the ethos of many microbrands may well be a thing of the past.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If they hadn't partnered with delugs for the strap I'd completely agree with you. But some of those delugs straps cost as much as a bracelet.

  • @chrishugo
    @chrishugo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    1) There is no excuse for a watch strap that is too short for a 19mm wrist. That's just declaring that the maker had no interest in the Western markets. 2) The debris on the dial at 6:02 can't be unseen and ignored. I would never choose this brand over other Singapore brands and especially not Thai WISE at half the price with better execution, a broad range of spirt and dress models, and Jame's "Emoeror of Lume ."

    • @jerryglasses2229
      @jerryglasses2229 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think awesome they provide a reasonable length strap. I'm a 6.875 in wrist and can't stand when there's excess strap. Watcha have gotten bigger but standard strap lengths have stayed the same

    • @chrishugo
      @chrishugo หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jerryglasses2229 In Asian straps, shorter is the norm. At nearly a 7" wrist, you shouldn't be bothered by the tail of a strap that also fits 7.5" (19mm). But, stopping the product fit at 7.25" excludes half of western men from buying. With its $100 strap that doesn't fit my average male wrist, the watch is DOA. It just makes no sense at all.

    Wow, $1200 for an unknown brand with a wind-up movement?? Why don't they use an automatic? This just screams cost cutting and high profit margins...

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some prefer it... it's a whole thing. Some feel that having to wind it every day brings more of a personal connection to the watch. Like you're feeding it or something. For me, I'd prefer an auto.
      That said.. a lot of times mechanical movements, and especially the top-grade ones are more expensive than some autos. Supply and Demand thing.
