    I heard the Gustav's shells were numbered, and had to be fired in order. Each subsequent shell was slightly wider than the previous, to compensate for the previous shell scraping off a bit of inside of the gun's barrel.

      your thinking of the paris gun which needed a barrel change every 64 shots or something (im probably way off), ive never heard of that being the case with gustav but I aint a historian so mabye

(It was never completed, but parts for it were made and preparations were underway by 1944)

    That first gun you mentioned was actually developed a bit earlier than 1464. It was made 12 years earlier and was used by the Ottomans in the siege of Constantinople in 1453. The problem with the Dardanelles gun was that it took 3 hours to reload.

    You didn't mention the Little David, a U.S. built mortar with a 36" bore created in WW2. The projectile weighed in at 3,600 pounds. There are a couple of videos here on TH-cam about it.

    Also worth noting, the largest guns ever mounted on a warship at sea, the Imperial Japanese Navy, with the Yamato class battleships' 18.1 inch, 460mm main guns, which could fire shells that weigh as much as a small family sedan.

    i feel like the V3 cannons deserves an honorable mention. thats what the babylon was based on and they actually made a few test shots with those. and the way it uses multiple charges to propel one projectile is very interesting. the biggest one of the ones that was build was 140 meters. thats quite respectable.

    Not as big, but the atomic cannon deserves an honorable mention for the fission bomb warhead. Not a railroad gun, but a gun towed by a military semi (tractor/trailer) truck and longer than most semi trailers

  • @haxalicious

    What about the Russian gun that fires like 15 20-pound bullets a second? It was scrapped because it was designed to be mounted in a plane, but due to the insane amount of force it created, whenever the gun fired you would rapidly decelerate backwards.

    I’m a bit disappointed that you never brought up battleships. I mean sure their individual guns aren’t going to be anywhere as destructive as the modern guns you mentioned in the video, but considering they carried at least 8-9 massive guns I’d they that would more than make up for it.

  • @stefan1493
    @stefan1493 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are kind of wrong on one point. There is a bigger muzzle loader than the Tsar cannon. 100 tonne muzzle loader guns were built by the British. Two were put in Gibraltar, two in Malta. One is in fact still in Fort Rinella in Malta. Although it was never involved in combat, it was fired for practice.
