Hi Tiffany, I totally relate to the joy of a finished make for little ones. They just go together so quickly and seeing the joy in your daughter is awesome! I'm working on the Cashmerette sloper school right now. I'm a little bit behind and just finishing my first rendition of my sloper. The "cowgirl" outfit is just so adorable!!! Yes to longer shorts - in addition to being thoughtful about what is appropriate, they will protect her skin from sun, splinters, bug bites - you name it. Part of the reason RTW childrens' shorts are so short may be cost-cutting, too. I always do a small zig-zag that is closer to a satin stitch around appliques to keep them from fraying, and made some really cute sweatshirts for my kids when they were small using appliques I made myself from a Vogue childrens' pattern and they wore them nonstop. We were in the partial path of the eclipse - it was more like a very cloudy day at the height but still fascinating and wonderful - the heavens proclaim the glory of God! Hello, Mary! Thank you so much for watching and for such a kind comment! Yes, you are probably exactly right about the cost cutting and little regard for any sun protection, etc. of the actual garment for little girls. I’ll stick to making my own for Addy, for sure!

Omg, I love that tunic and shorts you made for Addie June! I used to sew cute dresses like that for my 2 girls! And for my 2 boys I would sew t-shirts and jeans. I also sewed for my granddaughters. I really enjoyed that! I didn’t get the quilt done although I have the binding cut out. I also did the tag on the back. My granddaughter came over today so we could hem her prom dress . She also needed help with a dress she bought to go under her graduation gown. She’s a very sweet girl and very driven. She wants to be a vet and right now she has a GPA of 4.2!

Hi Tiffany! I’m slowly recouping but so far so good. Watching sewing videos on you tube are keeping me going! Addie June’s short outfit is adorable and I totally agree, dress our girls in longer lengths and I know it can be a struggle but since you sew you don’t have to hunt to find appropriate shorts for your darling daughter, or any of our girls. Modesty seems to be gone. Take care and hope the weather gets better, so gloomy n rainy these past few days for sure!! The eclipse was great to see here, we also had great weather for us to view. Oh how fun! I used to appliqué for my daughter. I used coloring books as the base for appliqué designs. Then used heat and bond or wonder under to adhere the design. Now I have an embroidery machine and you can buy designs that are so cute. Design by Juju and Planet Appliqué is my favorite. So cute for littles. We saw the totality in 2017. It was a wonderful experience!

@@hoosierhandmade22 yes and now with free printable coloring pages from the internet it would be so easy. I had an embroidery business for many years. If you are ever thinking about getting an embroidery machine consider a commercial one. Sooo much better and cheaper than a home machine. You definitely have space for one
@@kathyerikson637 That’s a great suggestion, Kathy! I’ll keep that in mind. The commercial ones are the tall ones? I think babylock has a model that stands tall.
@@hoosierhandmade22 yes but there are so many commercial brands to look at mine is a 15 needle Tajima neo . About the same footprint as a Babylock. But doing a appliqué by hand is a lot of fun too.

Tiffany, Addie's cow outfit is beyond adorable!! That might be a good pattern for Project Dress a Girl since it has no zipper or fasteners. Beautiful eclipse footage. We experienced the magic of totality here. So special!! ❤

I’m with you about the length of little girls’ shorts! I don’t understand why my kid has to be less protected from sun, chairs, etc. just because of her sex??! It bothers me SO much with swim suits too. I actually put my toddler in boys’ rash guard/swim trunks sets so that she has less sun exposure.
To my understanding, all of the New Look patterns are being phased out of stores. One of mine already has them on clearance, and the other will be marking them down when the fabric area employee has time to do it. The fabric section at my store was recently rearranged and some of the floral department took over where the notions had previously been. It seems like they’re downsizing at my store. I picked up quite a few patterns, and even got a few “for tween” patterns to use in a decade when my daughter fits in them 😂
Hello, Erin! Thank you so much for watching! Yes, I totally agree about the little girl shorts! That’s really smart to use the boys’ rash guard. I’m currently sewing some long sleeved rash guards for Addy as they’re so hard to find in the stores for little girls. The swimsuit options for girls provide absolutely no protection from sun exposure, just ridiculous for toddlers!
I’m glad you were able to take part in the New Look sale! It was such a good deal! My Hobby Lobby told me that all patterns would be going eventually. I’ll have to be on the lookout for those sales!

Addi's outfit is adorable. I love longer shorts on Littles. I did go to hobby lobby when we got to our son's today. I did good. Only 11. I have not bought a paper pattern in forever. Their hobby lobby has nice fabric. Picked up a piece of linen in a dark coral. As for the eclipse we had our whole crew at our house. The son and family came down from springfield, my sister from belleville and my nephew from huntsville al. Totality for over 3 min. They thought it was awesome.

Hi Tiffany. Since you had such success with the Kwik Sew pattern maybe you should look at getting her books. She has several but the ones I've used the most are Sewing for Baby, Sewing for Toddlers and Sewing for Children. I used them first for my children and then my grandchildren. Now onto the greats. I was also in the path of totality in southwest Ontario. Awesome daÿ! Cheryl 🇨🇦

Hi Tiffany! I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and was delighted to see they still had quite a few New Look patterns available. It looked to me as though they were discontinuing that brand. I even purchased the counter book in the clearance section

Here is the UK we had a total solar eclipse back in 1999. I remember it vividly, from the strange day/night light to the eerie silence because the birds stopped singing when we had totality. How did your animals behave ? I love the things you made for your lovely daughter and the cow dress is so cute. We don’t have a Hobby Lobby or Joanne’s over here, but I wish we did ! Our animals kind of settled down like it was night time but they were very calm and relaxed. My daughter, however, was taking a nap inside and as soon as the total eclipse occurred she woke up from her nap, like it disturbed her sleep somehow. That was a little strange for sure! Addie's cowgirl often is so cute! I used Kwik Sew patterns when my kids were little and they were great. They were much better before the big five bought them. I bought their Sewing for Children book that had patterns in the back for knits. It had instructions for all kinds of variations. I made many things from that book. Loved your eclipse pictures. Here in NE PA it was cloudy so I really didn't see anything.

Love little missy Cow outfit. For Josh's underwear are you sure your fabric had enough stretch, I made Cole some and a few pairs didn't fit but it was the fabric. I'm sure you have it correct but just a thought. I'm working on a slow sewing make, a Denim jacket but made with white twill with bees on it, but had to change pockets and lined the jacket and so much top stitching. Happy Weekend sweetie.

Yes, you’re right on the money about the fabric choice, I will definitely use something more stretchy next time. It’s a struggle to find the exact fabric one needs, it should a cotton type to be breathable but yet be very stretchy and comfortable. My cotton knit fabric didn’t have enough stretch but I’m going to keep looking!

Loved the cow appliqué top and shorts, Tiffany. Great way to personalise an outfit. The patterns you were sent were lovely too. I plan buy a doll and make matching outfits for my niece. I already have a pattern … just need to find a doll that suits it. Bit concerned that an 18” doll is too big for a 2yr old. So may delay it a while.

HI, Tiffany. Addie's cow tunic and shorts are adorable. I just went to Hobby Lobby today to check out theNew Look pattern sale. They did, indeed, have them all at .99. I picked up about 15 patterns I thought I could use. Some were for me and some for my granddaughters.I've been wondering if Hobby Lobby is phasing out fabrics. My store went from two racks of buttons to just one quite some time ago. Actual fabrics haven't seemed to change any yet so we shall see. Maybe they're just You had a beautiful;l, clear day for the eclipse.We got to experience the total eclipse in 2017, It is incredible.

I made special trips to the two closest Hobby Lobby and purchased a total of 24 patterns. But the clerk who helped me today said she had purchased 47 patterns so far! My understanding is that all Hobby Lobby are participating in the sale and the New Look line will not be carried any more. But that's not gospel truth, just what I picked up by eavesdropping. My local store has almost the entire department on sale for 40% off. I needed a total of 18 yards of fabric for a drape for my new house. (curtain and lining) Boy did I hit the jackpot. I was able to get both pieces for less than the regular price for just the drapery fabric. I wish Hobby Lobby could have increased instead of decreasing the sewing department because JoAnn's are closing left and right in Southern CA and HL could have picked up even more steady customers. Hobby Lobby and Walmart are our only choices in my town now.
