The UK version is a bit better in that regard because they pick out restaurants that have actual issues a real restaurant might experience rather than stupid soap opera drama.
Like, the Curry Lounge episode was pretty cool, Gordon was very analytical and thorough there and it showed that it's not as simple as him going there, yelling as some people, doing a makeover and suddenly poof, it's all fixed.

You gotta understand a world renowned chef expectation for food could be 10 time higher than your average joe, of course he's extremely upset about it's his passion for food that makes him this way. But it's also enjoyable to watch other people attempt to Make this man happy.

To me without a really good resume experience and no degree in culinary school , or a well known master chef teaching you ,, your not truly a chef but a cooker like me. People that works in the restaurant kitchen cooking for customer is not a fuking true chef! They are in denied!
Yeah it's a great point. If you've ever played the piano seriously, you know that the same 3 minute piece can be played by a beginner, an intermediate, a conservatory student, a conservatory professor, and then by people like Glenn Gould and Emil Gilels. And these would be not just different interpretations but different standards/levels of performance. Yet try explaining to people like the average restaurant owner that this applies to many pursuits where there's room for creativity and the strife for perfection...
average joe would still prefer my cat's food over that blob, not even arguing if that's italian or not (and those things are 0% italian, they are 100% scam) just the look of what's in the plate is disgusting... I can't know if these things are exaggerated or not (probably they are) to emphasize the show, but these don't even fit the lowest of the standards, that's stuff you'd eat only if yuo can't eat else and you're starving, everyone else would just toss it and then go to the closets fast food.
Sometimes it can happen you really love your job and that you do it with passion, yet not everyone is good in everything and if you clearly have the passion but you're terrible at it, the passion on itself won't fill the enormous gap that can bring you from being terrible to be effective or even acceptable at something.
In that case, the only thing you have to do is to move on, change your job, and do something you may not love as your precedent job, but that you are actually good at, it will bring you a decent life and way less stress than seeing your restauraunt empty because people suddently wonder what they are paying for.

Yeah, the show didnt get canceled, Gordon owns his own production company, he puts all his money into his own projects. So the only way his show goes off air, is if Gordon says so. And thats why, Gordon stopped kitchen nightmares because he needed a break. He ate so much bad food, he had to take meds the entire time filming.

Gordon is used to eating at 5 star restaurants. This are 2 star at most and he expects classy all around and 5 star foodie. I really feel bad for Tommy in this episode. He was quite clearly suffering from something mentally, depression or something similar. He wasn't like the usual owners who were thick-skulled and pig-ignorant, it was more just like he HAD to believe that his food was good because it was the last thing keeping him together.

Sometimes I go into these restaurants and they have all kinds of "specialties". Keep it simple. A steak doesn't need prosciutto and melted cheese to make it good. Cook it well, season it with some coarse sea salt and pepper, and you'll have a wonderful dish. Not everything needs to have a greek or italian spin to it. Start with the basics and work from there.
I want to high five you
100% agree. The restaurant I worked for almost shut down and the owner took drastic measures by firing his friend and chef who's worked there so long he helped build the place. The menu was cut down from 70+ items to 20. Everything was simplified and we expected the dailies to be mad. Turns out people liked it better and it quickly became renown in the area for it's seafood.
Sadly poor management and other projects didn't save the place but the few years following these changes were by far the best in two decades.
I must agree. Everytime I go to eat out and I see a steak smothered in all of these sauces and cheeses and garnishes, I do get hungry for it, but, the simplistic steaks with simple side dishes always seem to win me over when it comes to ordering. Nothing beats a greatly cooked steak with some sides.
