Thank you, Kelsey. I'm watching your video to help me understand how the 747 works and operates for my MicroSoft Flight Simulator. Last night I flew from Boston to LAX at 32,500 feet at 249 knots with no problems at all, until it was time to touch down. I had a good slop path and configured for touch down, but at 1,000 feet the plane would accelerate and go back up. Now I understand that I need to learn more about the switches and knobs on the Mode Control Panel. I was getting frustrated until I found your video. Thank you again. And by the way, my Uncle was a TWA 747 pilot flying the route from Boston to Paris for many years.

I'm watching it for neither. I just want to be prepared for the day when the stewardess comes into the cabin and says, "Excuse me, is there anyone here who can fly a 747?" I'll be like, sure I can. How hard can it be, I watched Kelsey's videos. Take me there.

For those who couldn't understand the funcion of FL CGH is basicly for slave the climb based on the airspeed, for an example, if you are climbing at 290kt and hit FL CGH and select 250kt the pitch engine will engage THRUST CLIMB mode and the pitch will increase to maintain 250kt, the lower the airspeed selected the higher is the pitch and the higher V/S.
Hi Kelsey - I think it might have helped viewers understand FL CH a lot better if you'd mentioned that it is used to climb or descend the aircraft as a function of speed, therefore giving crews the ability to control the speed particularly on a descent. For quite some time I had troubling understanding the logic behind FL CH and why we use it in a given situation...that was until I learnt it simply changes altitude as a function of speed! I enjoy your content! The technical videos like this are awesome for flight simulation! I need to learn to read approach plates and how to set up the FMC
Actually a bit of both. ;) I am a pilot and fly a Proline 21 equipped plane which is very similar to the Boeing setup in modes (they call it a Flight Guidance Panel not an MCP). But I was showing my son how to use the autopilot and MCP and FMS in a 737-800 on XPlane. We were already flying... so I selected FD on and put in Heading and altitude hold modes (looking at what we call the “rumour board” to make sure modes annunciated) and put in a destination airport, loaded up an approach, set up cruise and descent profile, put the initial waypoint in the direct line on the legs page, hit lnav to get on course, hit flight level change to get up to altitude, and settled in for cruise after capturing altitude. It’s very tough to see a TOD and I didn’t see one on the progress page. In spite of arming VNAV and dialing altitude to zero it would not capture what I thought would be a normal 2.5 or 3.0 degree VPATH nor was is respecting VNAV restrictions on the approach. I put the boards out and tried to dive using Vertical Speed (it’s true what they say that the 737 doesn’t like to slow down and go down) but it would not capture anything. Every time I’d hit VS or FLCH it would reset my altitude selector to the cruise altitude Inputted in the FMS. Is there something I missed? I’ll admit that the XPlane FMS isn’t the best (eg: you can’t put waypoints “in the blue” on the legs page to intercept segments and clear discontinuities rather than going direct a waypoint).
The most special flying experience for me was flying on the upper deck of the 747. I got an upgrade to business class, so I got a seat on the upper deck. I've been on A380s 10+ times, but it really doesn't compare to the isolated feeling you have in the 747
Hey Kelsey! This is literally the easiest to understand video I've found online for using the MCP. I own Aerowinx PSX, It's a 744 sim, I've never been in a level D sim but the fidelity of this software is off the charts! Mayve you could make a video using it if you've got it?
I’ve learned a lot from you, and flying from Ontario CA to Sea- Tac last night, I spewed several facts from your vids, & the guy I was sitting in 1st class, Alaska 737-900, with asked me if I was a pilot! I I told the truth & he still wanted more info ‘cause he REALLY thought I was a pilot?! I just thought, “boy, I wished had been watching your vids for a couple of years-I could have faked him totally out!
ya, like a hippy right? 🤣 sometimes if I am on a long layover and I have a few days off I don't cut it, but then before I go back to fly I cut it again.
ya its pretty magical at times when you look out and see how far the planes have advanced and when I in less than a day end up on the other side of the world.... Thanks for watching Cissy.
I have always loved everything aviation. My cousin had drawn a mock up of the flight control panel. He and I spent hours flying props and jets. During my Coast Guard service, my cutter had a HH52A. I was part of the tie down crew. I spent time on board getting signed off as rescue and recovery swimmer. But, I was told by military flight instructors as well as civilian flight schools that because my vision is 20/600, I would never obtain a pilots license. Watching the aviation videos is fun but it comes down to this. I get to watch pilots in training kiss beautiful ladies while I get only my lady cousin to kiss. I just wish there was more to do.
well this might be painful because its pretty technical. But I have some more cool/fun stuff coming next month including another movie if we get the edits done.

I enjoy your content! The technical videos like this are awesome for flight simulation! I need to learn to read approach plates and how to set up the FMC
Actually a bit of both. ;)
I am a pilot and fly a Proline 21 equipped plane which is very similar to the Boeing setup in modes (they call it a Flight Guidance Panel not an MCP).
I’ll admit that the XPlane FMS isn’t the best (eg: you can’t put waypoints “in the blue” on the legs page to intercept segments and clear discontinuities rather than going direct a waypoint).
oh nice, I didn't know about that, thanks for sharing Barton.
Very easy to understand for us beginners thanks
Very highly educational video. Love it
thanks Chris.
11:22 are you a middle child by chance? 😂
nope. But you are the first to comment on that part of the video hopefully you found it funny.
The most special flying experience for me was flying on the upper deck of the 747. I got an upgrade to business class, so I got a seat on the upper deck. I've been on A380s 10+ times, but it really doesn't compare to the isolated feeling you have in the 747
I want to fly as a passenger on a 747, it would be strange I think for me to not be allowed to go up front but cool to have that experience.
Hey Kelsey! This is literally the easiest to understand video I've found online for using the MCP. I own Aerowinx PSX, It's a 744 sim, I've never been in a level D sim but the fidelity of this software is off the charts! Mayve you could make a video using it if you've got it?
Shot well needed info for flying my 747 simulation
Very good and clear explanation of the MCP, now I can use it in my flight simulator. Have MS FlightSim 2020 since yesterday :-)
Watched for flying in FSX. Thanks!
I love your videos. You inspire me tremendously. Keep it up.
Hi Kelsey good to see you happy flying
Thanks Lisa, I appreciate that!
🤣 thats funny Ginny. I am flying to SeaTac tomorrow, so if you see me walking around SEA come say hi!
Enjoy your vids! But this *might* be the longest I've ever seen you grow your hair!
ya, like a hippy right? 🤣 sometimes if I am on a long layover and I have a few days off I don't cut it, but then before I go back to fly I cut it again.
@@74gear too much parasite drag kelsey
stop disrespecting bald people
Love the Tutorial. Cheers from Mexico. Captain...
Gonna use it for my flight sim thanks man
Really helpful with the new MS Flight Simulator.
Hi Kelsey, thank you so much for your video, It was very helpful. Could you explain how to configure the fuel pumps on the 747? Thanks
Great video mate. Well done. More videos like this please.
some more fun ones coming up but I may do some more videos for the sim people later if they are requested.
Nice video. I fly the 737-800 in a simulator so could the most of it from before but i learned something new.
nice, ya all the boeings are pretty similar so glad you can use some of it Bear. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Enjoy your talent and professional demeanor.
50k subscribers!!!! Congrats 74!
Thanks Immanuel, slowly growing still.
Glad I am using these buttona completely correct in my PMDG.
awesome, glad the video was helpful for you Akira.
Enjoyed the video! Hope you make one about charts.
which charts are you having a hard time with?
@@74gear Hello, I'm not having much of a hard time but I want to understand more about approach charts and how they are used, thank you.
I love you and your videos, but you never blink.
Watching because having lots of issues using AP on the B748 in MSFS 2020.
This will be so useful for flight sim .
Ya otherwise it’s a very boring video but you’re right it’s perfect for that
I'm using this info for flight simulator. Thanks Kelsey!
You just got a Big Thumbs Up.! Thank you for sharing.!
I know its complex but glad you enjoyed it
@@74gear Oh ya very complex you bet.
I needed this video!
I used this for FS2020, learning to fly the 747-8 /thumbsup
This is an awesome idea. I want to be a Boeing pilot but I also will apply this in flight simulator
ya mostly applies to Boeing even if its not the 74, glad you liked it.
I watch just to learn something new :) It's interesting. (I'm not a pilot)
interesting, this is probably the most technical video I will do on this topic but next few videos are fun and some movies I am working on now too.
Interesting. For us Flight Level Change is just where we set the speed to climb or descend. Otherwise we can set vspeed or vnav.
I never lose the awesome feeling that some machine has fulfilled mankind's wish from back in the mists of time - to take to the skies.
ya its pretty magical at times when you look out and see how far the planes have advanced and when I in less than a day end up on the other side of the world....
What does "clean up the plane" mean?
I am going to get to try a full motion 737 sim at the Delta Flight Museum in a few weeks. I'm excited about it!
Dee "cleaning up" means putting the landing gear and flaps up. A "dirty plane" is when the landing gear and flaps are extended. Have fun in the sim!
@@terryboyer1342 thank you!
ya I noticed when I was editing I had said that, it was such a technical topic I was caught up during filming, but Terry is right!
Kelsey I’m watching this vid bc u always put out good stuff!
well this might be painful because its pretty technical. But I have some more cool/fun stuff coming next month including another movie if we get the edits done.
I would like to flight the Boening 747 in the flight sim. These informations are very helpful. Thank you for your videos :-)
I'm watching this video for flight simulations and my future career hopefully.
awesome hello, hopefully it was helpful
