Buy a aluminium metal sheet.. spray paint with brass color or some aged color which can match the other shelves. Cut the sheet in rectangles and arrange in herring bone pattern, fix it with small metal studs. I don’t know whether this will work but I just gave an idea. Lots of love and hugs
Leave the bar cart as is. You don't like the tiles because you don't want to change it. As for the lamp, have you thought about air drying clay to make the rings?
This is a great idea. She could use some of the salvaged wallpaper from the house. Plus she wouldn't have to glue it down so easy to change it out/not damage the cart
I agree that the cart just needs a little restoration. I would paint the lamp black with BBQ paint. I use this paint a lot and the finish is impeccable. It would look so chic with a nice modern shade.
McCenna! That green dress looked amazing on you! Save it for a dressy date night. . I’m not usually a DIYer so if I don’t like it, I don’t buy it. I liked the bar cart and lamp “as is”. I like the imperfections because they tell a story and add character to the pieces. 🥰
Love this Idea... Great Conception especially since it's all about wisdom being even better after Survival of Loss Great Conversational Aspect.. which could lead into vase making ???
"Thrift shopping has ruined me" .. I couldn't agree more!!!! Would love to see a video where you diy some of the styles from this video out of thrifted finds♡ I loveeeee the knitted top with embroidery so precious🥲
Make the bar cart into a coffee bar and show how to style it with different thrift items. Dont touch it lol. Perhaps use some of the dishes and items you found on your last thrift video.
I think just changing the side handles on the cart is all that’s needed. It’s beautiful as is but adding brass handles would really add something special.
Find a metal(brass) sheet that match the other shelfs of the Coffee bar and as other people suggested but a glass sheet on top.You could then change it easily to something els under the glass top😉
The flip for the bar card is using it as a coffee station. I like the idea of putting a piece of glass over it whether you just show the wood through it or you switch out fabric or wallpaper... You will never get tired of it and you won't destroy it. Sometimes it's best to know when to stop it's a great piece as is. Simply adding the glass will protect it.
I love little Kensley. She reminds me so much of my little poodle Bobo who passed away a couple years ago. He lived to be 17 and he was so playful and loved his toys. He had his own toy box and if a toy was missing, he would search all over the house for it.
A mosaic from vintage China pieces would be pretty on the bar cart. You could use pieces with some gold in it. You’re so creative that it’ll be great, whatever you decide!
I agree with putting a piece of cut glass on top. And doing a video on how to clean up or restore an item with little updated touches, and maybe a how to style your piece
My stepmom has a vintage little table that has a vintage picture on it with framed glass on top. It's a beautiful addition to the room and a conversation piece.
I’m so glad that you had a date night. You work so hard and as I said in one of your other videos I think it’s so important to spend quality time. I love the idea of the brass shades that you had. They will look amazing. I liked the grey tiles for the cart, but I’m into Art Deco. They could still work. Love your pooch, he’s such a lovely 🥰 pet and he always makes me smile. X
BAR CART: get small stones, put them on like tile, close together, and then tint your grout a gold/brass tone…or better yet, tint epoxy to fill in the gaps then when dry put a thin layer of clear epoxy over it. It will be higher than the wood on the edge of the cart, so apply some quarter round (stained to the colour of the wood) to make up the difference in depth and that will give you a nice smooth finish.
For the bar cart I would re-use the top wood pieces but cut them a tiny bit just so they’re consistently spaced, then do a brass inlay between the wood pieces!
Use clay for the lamp! Form it with air dry clay, or you can form it and then cut it in half and super glue it back together! Seems like the perfect thing for what you’re wanting, with added bonus of being a nice texture and paintable! Also, leave the bar cart as is. The only thing I can image making it look nice are like brass pipes as the handles or something like that to make the brass pop better from eye level/far away!
since you have been restoring the cottage I would love to see you give a glow up to the bar cart! keep all elements as is but clean the hardware and oil or stain the wood. wouldn't be a huge transformation but those are the projects I am most interested in doing right now :) excited to see what you're working on!!!
first of all, you look so ✨gorgeous✨ with that dress! and those sandals are so unique, never seen anything like it before. as for the bar cart, for me, i think i'll just clean it and leave as it is and change the handles into black or brassy worn vintage metal (or paint it). when you put the brass bowl on top of it i honestly saw it as a bathroom vanity with towels/tissue rolls in the shelves.
That bar cart needs a leather inlay on the top. a warm brown, ideally reclaimed. best to find an old jacket or skirt and use that. the seams would add extra detail.
The lamp and cart are spot on as is...sublime! A glass insert into bar cart top might be practical for spills. I just thrifted 3 beautiful vintage white hobnail table lamps with brass and wooden bases...changing nothing about them except for creating 3 terrific looking vintage lamp shades.
I love the idea that others have had, - the glass with vintage paper underneath so you can switch it out. I would go with that idea for now until you find the PERFECT treatment for the top that you want. I agree, sometimes rushed things turn out amazing, but because you're so in love with the cart, I would do something temp until you find perfect. :)
Paint the top with black chalk paint and paint a simple mural using brass acrylic. Thoughts for the mural: simple flowers, mountains, a desert landscape, a Texas landscape. Or knowing you, you could make it abstract.
i think a distressed mirror would look great as the top of the bar cart! kelsey from the sorry girls recently did that to a wall mirror in their garden makeover. would go with the older age vibe :)
You could always try to source an old sheet of brass to match the lower shelves, but that could take a long time to find. Or you could cut a butcher block to fit into the top and make it a kitchen cart.
For the bar cart, because it has the wooden lip around it would be the prefect piece to try resin pouring, I would do black, dark grey with it hopefully being really cloudy and then do thin slivers of copper poured across like Marble veins. I think that would be a cool DIY idea ☺️☺️
Bar cart idea: Vintage transparent tile glass (any color you like best) on top and change out the side handles to gold/brass to best match the shelves or age (DIY) them to match. 🙂
I would just do that antique mirror technique with vinegar on the top. It will add character while still matching the patina effect of the shelves. Change the handle to brass with brown leather accents.
The foam tubing that covers pipes would work better than pool noodles for the lamp. It comes in a variety of sizes and is more flexible. Also super cheap at any Lowes/Home Depot!
I agree with all the other comments about leaving the bar cart as is, it would be so great in the cottage I can just envision it in there and it is PERFECT!!!
You could paint the handles on the bar cart black (with maybe a small ring of brass detail around the inside ends of the handles?) and insert a thin black wood piece on top to cover the entire area with the slated wood. Then bring back the brass look of the bottom two shelves.
for the bar cart, I'd do an aged brass or patina/aged mirror surface (as mirrored surfaces work so well for glassware on bar carts), then possibly aged brass handles if you went with the mirrored surface. you could maybe get the mirror to be amber-toned as well
For the cart i think you can fill the crack with brass colored epoxy and pouring a clear coat on top. Or you can create a beautiful Mosaic with sea glass!
I am jumping on the glass with vintage wallpaper underneath that was mentioned below. I would never have thought of it. And they said the wallpaper from the house. You guys are brilliant!!!!
Girl DIY a chevron pattern in wood for the top. Use something smaller like popsicle sticks or tongue compressors cut to size and maybe a couple if different stains. You could also glue these to a 3/4" cut board fit to size so you can pop it in and out.
Vintage or antique piece of brass sheet cut to the size on top would be the only option that doesn't take the original character of the cart. It'll also protect the top wooden part from water damage. Brass can easily be cleaned with brasso anyway.
Bar car either some leathering/croc/faux Ostrich and even in an emerald green...for a den/ hallway/nightstand. Or a Smokey mirror looks awesome. I inherited an odd hallway table covered it w leather and brass nail heads. I know you love books so between winged chairs books!!!and a cocktail. Mocktail
On the bar cart I would do like a cement top but just sitting on top so you can go back to the original top if you decide against it in the future. Then paint the handle black and add some black hooks for rags/cups etc. this way it would tie into the industrial look of the wood and metal book shelf you have.
i think just filling in the gaps with gold/brass epoxy and leaving the wood or something like that could look really cool! kinda like those gold filled broken vases but with the wood
Definitely paint the hand on the bar cart black, or replace with black handle. And the top you should do resin inside with something set in the resin. Maybe dried flowers and gold flecks?
Lol I think the bar cart would look really pretty with the terra-cotta hand painted tiles, like the square ones, and an interesting thought would be to fill the gaps with resin.
About the bar cart. Maybe you can do a wood harringbone pattern on the top in the same wood tone from really thin wood (for example veneer wood) so you still have that cute edge.
Maybe you could dyi a brass infused, removable insert tray for the top of the barcart to keep the original barcart intact. Love, love, love the brass bowl pendant light idea!
Bar cart is perfect as is but you could make a parquet floor style removable serving tray to set on top of it. Vintage tea towels on the handle. For the lamp, deconstruct it into a vase and tarnish it more adding some green to it or cut in half the long way and make wall pockets out of the 2 sections.
Hi Macenna, find a beautiful wallpaper or fabric with brass notes in it . Lay it down and top it with glass. Agree, the tile was not working. The sandals are so cute!
Many years ago my dad turned an oval mirror frame into a coffee table by adding legs and using a checkerboard pattern with maroon and grey tiles on top. Perhaps that would work with small square tiles using a few different colours in neutral shades to tie in with the wood and brass.
They have some really nice peel and stick tile options on Amazon. Easy to make and clean. I also like the suggestion of the wooden strips in herringbone.
I would put glass on top of the bar cart. Maybe you could add brass color foil sheets to the bottom of glass. Tie it all in. I also looked online. Looks like you may be able to find a brass sheet, cut it to size, then add glass on top. That’s what I would do. Enjoy the day.
A very large tray, creating new surface with no commitment or add a small brass rail around the edge of the top to emphasize the metal details and bar cart look. For add metal pulls if can:) great find👍

Hi MaCenna, do you know if they ship overseas? Like the UK?
Buy a aluminium metal sheet.. spray paint with brass color or some aged color which can match the other shelves. Cut the sheet in rectangles and arrange in herring bone pattern, fix it with small metal studs. I don’t know whether this will work but I just gave an idea.
Lots of love and hugs
Leave the bar cart as is. You don't like the tiles because you don't want to change it.
As for the lamp, have you thought about air drying clay to make the rings?
Leave the cart alone! It's beautiful already. The bowls as pendant lights is genius. I love your videos! 💖
How about having a piece of glass cut for the bar cart and putting vintage wallpaper underneath that you can change out ? xx
I was thinking the same thing or doing some sort of resin top.
This is a great idea. She could use some of the salvaged wallpaper from the house. Plus she wouldn't have to glue it down so easy to change it out/not damage the cart
@@TiffaNiffaNi love this! Vintage wallpaper under glass.
Yes! My mother has a little table like this and she puts in some seasonal items too for holidays
This is a great ode!!
I'd like a dark green tiles and some aged brass handles for the bar cart.
That would look cute!
Yes!
I would not touch that bar cart! She's beautiful just the way she is! 🙌❤️
You Can also wear a Jean jacket over the dress so it doesn’t look so dressy but it looks great
I love the bar cart as is. I would only clean it up and old English it. It's just so beautiful the way it is.
MaCenna in TX: tears down a whole house by herself
MaCenna in LA: aaaah! Too much to do!
❤️😆❤️😆❤️
Hahaha. Totally thought the same thing.
The bar cart is beautiful already, leave it be! Same with the lamp. Even though it’s a bit rusty brass is so on trend right now, just leave it as is.
It's way too shiny!!!
I agree that the cart just needs a little restoration. I would paint the lamp black with BBQ paint. I use this paint a lot and the finish is impeccable. It would look so chic with a nice modern shade.

Yes to the dress
Maybe brass or gold into the crack on the top, like that Chinese or Japanese technique of repairing broken things?
Love this Idea... Great Conception especially since it's all about wisdom being even better after Survival of Loss
Great Conversational Aspect.. which could lead into vase making ???
yeah wabi sabi it
Yesss, good idea.
That’s lovely! You’re thinking of Kintsugi
Lovely idea. I would definitely work with that crack.
I love the bar cart as is. How about you just style it with thrifted items.
I would definately leave the cart as is. I love it. Take it to Texas for one of the guest cottages. Its perfect!
Don't touch the bar cart!
You yourself said it was perfect.
A distressed mirrored top for the bar cart. Think mercury glass x
I love Romeos reaction with the sandals sounds so excited
I have to say I hated the slides. They look so orthopedic 🤣

Find pretty flat ceramics smash them and then do the gold sealing to make them the top for the bar cart ? Like a kintsugi kinda thing :)
Solid Marble/quartz topper and brass appliance pulls for the handles to tie in the gold. Classic.
On the cart top I can see a sheet of glass with golden mercury effect.
Bar cart - maybe a thin sheet of brass or copper, then age it.
MaCenna you look INCREDIBLE in the green dress, keep it!!!
Black tile grout- makes even box store tiles way more chic!
The bar cart is gorgeous as is, I agree with you. Clean it, tighten it up and enjoy it! Lots of things you can find that definitely need improvement.
I’m so glad that you had a date night. You work so hard and as I said in one of your other videos I think it’s so important to spend quality time. I love the idea of the brass shades that you had. Moroccan mosaic tile will go perfectly with that brass shelf and will give a pop of colour to the room

The dark tile is pretty, even go to lowes they have 3 inch wide planks in different types of wood, really pretty contrast and easy to work with ...
I am loving the idea of the pendant lights using the bowls.
I think a neutral pebble tile with a lot of grout could be super pretty on top of that bar cart! With brass handles to tie that back in.
Hey MaCenna! For the bar cart you should try an old antique brass handle and put glass on the top because that wood is beautiful as is. Great find!
first of all, you look so ✨gorgeous✨ with that dress! and those sandals are so unique, never seen anything like it before. as for the bar cart, for me, i think i'll just clean it and leave as it is and change the handles into black or brassy worn vintage metal (or paint it). when you put the brass bowl on top of it i honestly saw it as a bathroom vanity with towels/tissue rolls in the shelves.

The cart is perfect as is. That’s why it’s so hard. It would be cute in the cottage or guest cottages.
Fill the crack then decoupage with tissue paper or print. Seal. You will retain the tray feature. Beautiful piece. Love you style.
The herringbone tile that was above the one that has the brass detail was gorgeous! I think that tile would look perfect on the bar cart!
I love the idea that others have had, - the glass with vintage paper underneath so you can switch it out. Oh Husband Romeo is such a Doll ❤️💕 love how they speak to each other 💕💖
Paint the top with black chalk paint and paint a simple mural using brass acrylic. Thoughts for the mural: simple flowers, mountains, a desert landscape, a Texas landscape. Or knowing you, you could make it abstract.
When I say top, I mean just the top shelf only leaving the the trim untouched.
i think a distressed mirror would look great as the top of the bar cart! kelsey from the sorry girls recently did that to a wall mirror in their garden makeover. would go with the older age vibe :)
I think a mosaic look would match that bar cart much better than the tile! Or when people inlay pennies into things that would look awesome on top
Green octagon tiles on top of the bar cart. Like different shades of green, it’ll suit the wood and the brass.
MaCenna in Nordstrom, “We can DIY that.” Love it.
Bar cart idea: Vintage transparent tile glass (any color you like best) on top and change out the side handles to gold/brass to best match the shelves or age (DIY) them to match. 🙂
That cart is so beautiful AS IS! I wouldn't change a thing.
Maybe some colorful Italian or Spanish tiles for the bar cart. That’s personally what I would try because I love the colors. 😊

Penny tile like the ones you love for the bathroom floors of the cottage!!!
For the cart i think you can fill the crack with brass colored epoxy and pouring a clear coat on top. Or you can create a beautiful Mosaic with sea glass!
You could try strips of wood and install in a herringbone pattern, stained the same as the wood….
ooo thats so pretty! and a lot easier for me to cut to size! thank you!
Love your videos and the transformation to your property!
Had the same idea, I think it would look so stunning!!
Try brass coloured grout too maybe or paint the odd wooden tile brass coloured?
@@xomacennavlogs change the handle into brass handle or an updated wood and spray it brass
Love the cart really as is like glass idea with changing out what's under. Could also try vintage lace under the glass. Coffee & teas OHM
Like the clear glass idea because of the cracks in the top, and then putting some vintage photos, or vintage coffee and tea labels under the glass.
Or put vintahe crocheted doilies under the glass.
For the cart..find a beautiful tray that would go with the wood and brass. Not only would it cover the cracks but would be multi-use.
I am jumping on the glass with vintage wallpaper underneath that was mentioned below. I would never have thought of it. And they said the wallpaper from the house. You guys are brilliant!!!!
I like the lamp the way it is. It would look great with a handmade shade in like straw, or textured linen, or some other slubby textured fabric.
Bar car either some leathering/croc/faux
Ostrich and even in an emerald green...for a den/ hallway/nightstand.
Or a Smokey mirror looks awesome.
I inherited an odd hallway table covered it w leather and brass nail heads.
I know you love books so between winged chairs books!!!and a cocktail. Mocktail
I love the bar cart as it is, I would just clean it and MAYBE put a nice mosaic on top. You can even find mosaic tiles in metallic colours!
I think what you needed the pool noodles is plasty dip, that'd do a real good job and be easier than joint compound
You can always do a removable insert that doubles as a tray- the tray can have brass handles to tie in the brass look on top.
Resin for the bar cart top!!! It can be customized to exactly what you have in mind 😊😊😊
I am obsessed with Kinsley’s growl! 🐾🐾She is just TOO CUTE!!🥰❤️
Do a mercury glass spray paint on the back of a fitted piece of glass. You could add your brass colors and make it feel more antiqued.

The bar cart would look so good with slate on top!
I thought the same thing! Could even maybe “dupe” the slate with some textured chalk paint
MaCenna........vintage bar cart.......VINTAGE TILES !!!!!!!
I love that green dress and the green shoes. They are both very pretty and suit you so nicely, well done buying them :)
Many years ago my dad turned an oval mirror frame into a coffee table by adding legs and using a checkerboard pattern with maroon and grey tiles on top. Perhaps that would work with small square tiles using a few different colours in neutral shades to tie in with the wood and brass.
Hello McCenna, I'm thinking the bar trolly is a perfect example of furniture from the Arts and Crafts era, and its perfect the way it is x.
They have some really nice peel and stick tile options on Amazon. Easy to make and clean. I also like the suggestion of the wooden strips in herringbone.
That cart is just perfect the way it is!!
you could do an antiqued mirror top on the bar cart. should be thin enough and will match the vintage style...
I love the cart as is! I would leave it- just clean it up a bit.
