In India their is a law which makes it compulsory for high end schools to reserve a part of their seat for poor , hence they became poor to benefit from reserved seats its called RTE law (right to education ) Ar 21A

From my point of view, I think this movies is about how obsessed people get with putting their kids into an English medium school because the way and how fluently you speak English is stereotypically taken as a measure of one's intellectual and class in the society. A lot of times students and freshers from Engineering colleges are criticized for not delivering their presentations in fluent English because they studied it as a third language in their school and as a result score less in their exams when in reality they could have done a better job if they were given a chance to speak in their mother tongue.
Ah :-) I simply said what I have known to be true and happen with people around me, but I guess in many ways it is true for a vast majority of Indian youth in all walks of life that are facing this 'society made' issue.

I agree that Indians in any way are not disrespecting Indian culture by speaking English. I am, in fact of a view that we should learn to be able to converse in English. The lingua franca for the state governments to communicate with each other is English. Indian English is highly verbose and the grammar often depends upon the mother tongue of the speaker. That said, the people who were admitted in the school where English is taught as second or third language, find it difficult to acquire high paying jobs or any work with major significance in large firms. Now on some level, I think there is a prejudice that if someone can't speak English then they must have studied at lower grade school and maybe has no knowledge of the outside world. Which is a little demeaning because it's not right. Just as you should not correlate someone's knowledge of fluency in English to them being disrespectful to their own culture, one should similarly not correlate knowledge of English language to their intellect.
This movie is about the blind obsession of many people in India who associate dignity, class and superiority with English language. It is kind of sad as many kids in today's India are moving away from rich cultural and artistic heritage India has offered over centuries. It's like all kids today would know of Harry Potter and Tintin , but not of Chacha Chaudhri or Panchatantra. Learning a language means understanding the culture. It broadens your understanding, widens your horizon. However, it should not be treated as a compulsion or a lust so strong that it becomes an obsessive drive which carries children far away from their own roots !! Respect all languages and cultures equally, including your own.

Its fine if you can't find the time to do their reviews (since you are inundated with so many requests :-)), but please watch the movies. I would suggest you start with Maqbool, its directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, who directed Haider as well, and is inspired by Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Indian parents will do everything and anything for their children's education and career. In most of the countries you have to pay rent to your parents once you turn 15 if you want to stay with them but in India you can not only stay rent free but also can shamelessly ask for other financial favors and they are willing to help you without any complaints even if you are earning sufficient.
This concept of being able to speak in English fluently is as deep as religion in India,being able to speak in English defines you,your class,your family,your status...its so deeply imbibed in our subconscious,foreigners don't get it.This movie is close to home to almost every 1.2 billion Indians.

In terms of acting, irfan khan is easily up there with the likes of nana patekar, nawazudin, boman irani, amir khan, hritik roshan etc.. he gives it all for every particular scene.
actually the film is very relatable today in india. when the british left there were only a select few indians who could speak in english fluently and they were educated, the rest spoke in hindi. so we automatically associated an english speaking person with education and class. while hindi was someone illiterate and so no class. unfortunately it is still prevalent today and embedded in us, inspite of the literary rate being very high . we can no longer associate someone capable of speaking in english as someone literate and having class. also we see those people having class who are from uk or us (and thats another reason why english is so highly regarded). fortunately people now recognise this problem and are willing to eradicate it and bring hindi to the same std we have set fir english.
this movie has a concept similar to a Bengali movie called "ramdhonu".. even in that movie parents go to extreme limits to get their child admitted into a high class English medium school..try to watch that ..it's a comedy with a message and is made by Nandita Das and Shiboproshad Mukherjee..
People cross lengths in India to get their kids into the best possible school. They pour more and more money, take loans, and do everything humanly possible. I have seen it with my own eyes. And the English problem is even bigger. In big cities like Mumbai, Delhi English is a class, the highest class possible, , and the people strive towards it forsaking their morales and values. What this movie has shown, is extremely true..... And kudos to them for doing that
its gonna b a really fun movie with a hardcore msg -- saba qamar is really matching her acting skills with irfan khan which is unbelievable-- she looks promising-- two Punjabi pop song also added in it -- I don't think this Hindi - English drama needs Punjabi song -- and the most important thing is that no parents goes from this path to get admissions for their children -- so it will look real till they make efforts in starting after interval it will be just the collage of some funny dialogues and scenes-- and at the end u will find a msg --
The real message this movie trying to give here is that Indians are highly obsessed with "english" language. And the smartness or intelligence of a person is measured by how well he/she speaks english.
Usually I don't comment but for this one I'll like to put the cards on deck Being an Indian in India if you don't know English you are probably outcasted by the wealthy and educated whereas in other countries it just doesn't matter if you're good with your mother tongue. actually the film is very relatable today in india. when the british left there were only a select few indians who could speak in english fluently and they were educated, the rest spoke in hindi. so we automatically associated an english speaking person with education and class. while hindi was someone illiterate and so no class. unfortunately it is still prevalent today and embedded in us, inspite of the literary rate being very high . we can no longer associate someone capable of speaking in english as someone literate and having class. also we see those people having class who are from uk or us (and thats another reason why english is so highly regarded). fortunately people now recognise this problem and are willing to eradicate it and bring hindi to the same std we have set fir english.

And the English problem is even bigger. In big cities like Mumbai, Delhi English is a class, the highest class possible, , and the people strive towards it forsaking their morales and values. What this movie has shown, is extremely true..... And kudos to them for doing that

its gonna b a really fun movie with a hardcore msg -- saba qamar is really matching her acting skills with irfan khan which is unbelievable-- she looks promising-- two Punjabi pop song also added in it -- I don't think this Hindi - English drama needs Punjabi song -- and the most important thing is that no parents goes from this path to get admissions for their children -- so it will look real till they make efforts in starting after interval it will be just the collage of some funny dialogues and scenes-- and at the end u will find a msg --

Usually I don't comment but for this one I'll like to put the cards on deck Being an Indian in India if you don't know English you are probably outcasted by the wealthy and educated whereas in other countries it just doesn't matter if you're good with your mother tongue. Still remember when I watched that film with my mom dad. 😂😂, all the time saba is like what if piya starts taking drugs all the time. And my Dad said that woman gonna make this man mad hahahha on everything 🤣🤣, well was a nice movie. At the end piya went to a normal school
