The germans of Banat region of Romania, have some of the most spectacular, vast and well orchestrated holidays. Although in many villages these traditional events were completely stopped at one point due to massive immigration of the ethnic germans to Germany, in the recent years as many returned to their homeland in Romania they reignited the wonderful traditional activities together with Romanian communities from these villages.
The Danube Swabians of Banat have a unique and distinctive way of doing these events and nowhere is this more evident than in the tiny but the idyllic village of Nitzkydorf, a place of birth of quite a few european celebrities of german origin like Hertha Muller, the winner of Nobel prize for literature in 2009!
