It's genuinely heartening to see Thrasher delivering content that respects the viewer. Skateboarding is so much more than just trick, trick, trick, shoe sponsor, trick...Waylon Bone, you are doing really great work, cheers.
Watching skaters push back from injury is super dope because I’ve been fighting with alcoholism for a while I’m almost 2 months sober now getting my legs strong again but skaters that are still going today in the midst of all the crap in the world is one of the best of joys
Man, im recovering from an mcl tear and I kept hurting my knee everytime I thought it was better. Look my longest break recently (4 months ish no skating) and now I’m easing back into it. I got really depressed during that time, but this video is really necessary for me. Thanks Cyrus for being so transparent
Exact same here! Tore my meniscus in july and couldnt skate consistently till this january then 2 weeks ago i hyperextended my other knee and im out rehabbing it now. The depression that comes from it is never really talked about but this comment and this vid is what gives me hope. Good luck!!
yeah i’ve been rehabilitating a torn meniscus since last march :/ haven’t skated at all in almost year and im p bummed about not being able to really do it again
This is the video I've been needing. Tore my acl and meniscus last year and finally I'll be having surgery by the end of February and I tell myself it will be fine, I'll come back stronger and better, no more pain and whatnot but there is always that little doubt of what if this, what if that. I understand that depression of not being able to skate, I've been on and off, tricks lost, some gained but uncomfortable, but seeing this, from feeling down to seeing those six months later fully back on, it gives me hope that it will be alright. Of course, I'm not a pro like Cyrus, never will, but to roll around on the sidewalk and pop an ollie, a 180, a shuv, anything, without that fear of, I might fall wrong again, It may pop again. It gives me hope to feel the joy of riding my board as I did when I began. Glad to see Cyrus back on the board, he made it back from an injury, what says we can't as well. Its a lengthy process but like he said, its the steps to recovery.
That was the most honest info about injuring ur knee. And what u go thru mentally. Good stuff. Don’t give up hope. U see how happy Cyrus was once he started to skate again
I had the same knee surgery he talked about having in October of 2021 and it still doesn’t feel 100%. I haven’t skated in nearly two years due to that and an injury in my other knee. This was super inspiring and cool to see since it is such a rare type of surgery and you can’t find much about the recovery online
It's so sick to see Cyrus's journey to ripping again! I went through a similar injury and mental freak out, basically reaffirming how much I all love skating and regaining the ability to do so through hard work. Good to have a representation of mental fortitude through an injury instead of the more tragic cases of prescription abuse. The inspirational homie!
Lol I used to always say when he was rolling up for a trick it looks like he is ready to actually fist fight the spot. One of my absolute favorite skaters for sure.
i’m glad to see cyrus being happy and doing what he loves❤️❤️❤️ cause that happened toe before with heel and I couldn’t skate on the whole summer last year. It was tough but i realized that loves and appreciate me! Also for the people that are going through an injury, family or anything. Just to let u know there’s people around loves and cares of u!
Cyrus showing some real insight on what it takes to be pro. Appreciated as I can relate with injuries. Skaters coming up need to know the hard work required to stay healthy.
I remember getting knee surgery from breaking my patella. Very accurate on the mind set. What helped me was focusing on just being with others when I could. Even if I couldn’t skate I’d be filming, talking, etc. God gets me through those times! Prov 16:9 is a good reminder but the hope is that He knows what’s best for us!
still in recovery for an ankle dislocation almost 6 months ago. finally able to skate again, but yeah it doesn't feel the same. doing pt has been helping but it's going to take awhile to rehab
By the time he was 11 or 12 he was a legend in Telluride. He would show up at the skatepark, which was a 6 foot spine back then, and destroy EVERYBODY there.
Unfortunately I know all too well how that knee feels. Tore my ACL so bad that they had to dig it out of my lower thigh. Had to bridge it with a cadaver ligament. The skin on my outer knee feels like it’s asleep 24/7. Kinda got used to it after a while. The injury was the worst pain I’ve ever felt until the day I woke up from surgery, then that was the worst pain I ever felt. The PT was a very close 2nd. I still don’t have full range of motion but I did come back skating better than before. It was so hard for me to listen to him talking about his knee, makes me cringe.
You can hear it in his voice at how much happier he is now that he can skate. Injuries really are so much more than just a physical pain
no, they literally are not
