The singer for Racer X played drums for Badlands on their 2nd album. He could sing like Halford.

Paul Gilbert is most well known outside of shred guitarist circles for playing in Mr Big with Billy Sheehan, Racer X was his preceding speed metal band that never really made it big outside of California, they were technically superb but for whatever reason wasn't able to make the jump to the next level commercially. He's happy/comfortable playing with folk like Satriani and Vai, but also has a melodic 70s rock & pop sensibility to much of his songwriting that separates him from his contemporaries.
Love this studio performance of his current live set from back then; this release only exists because his band had studio time booked to record an album and were too efficient, so had a couple of days left that they didn't need but had already paid for. Marco Minneman the drummer is an insane musician, who amongst many other projects he's been involved in over the years is part of the instrumental trio The Aristocrats with Guthrie Govan & Bryan Beller.
You might also enjoy the work of one of his proteges/students, Lisa-X, a Japanese guitar prodigy who's 17 now but has been uploading guitar covers since she was 7, including a decent version of this song back when she was only 8 (bit sloppy in places but significantly better than many adults and most of the issues she had seemed to come down to her hands being literally too small for some of the stretches & bends). Her original output/gigging has been limited by choice until she graduates high school, but she has Hazuki from Nemophila as the second guitarist in her band and brought out a decent single at the start of the year for which this was the lead track: th-cam.com/video/fFxdWRgBxMg/w-d-xo.html
