    Hi Damien.. Enjoyed your imagination as always. Adds fun to the journey making for a cool video. Great feeling in the pine forest. Love it and all the useful tools. Any way, all the best. Mark.

      +Wye Explorer I do imagine there could be an unknown animal living in the forest but keep an open mind until I see something with my own eyes. I prefer decidious woodland where there is more variation of plants and trees compared to conifer plantations where the terrain seems endless and monotonous. Thanks for watching, Damian

      Fell Wanderer What do they say Damien..all is imagined. Such tales have been with us a long time and we thrive on them. I agree with you I like mixed woodland. When you look into a plantation it is dead inside. No Biodiversity at all. Any way, thanks for getting back. All the very best.Mark.

    Wae'aye man! Damian I've watched a few of your videos and thought it time I checked in from across the pond. I'm an American who lived in Newcastle for 10 years. While there I taught at Northumberland College & I'm positive you know exactly where that is... don't you mate? I miss hearing the very distinctive North East England/Geordie accent and phrases. You and Davey make a great team & I think you'd love to wild camp here in the Rockies of Colorado, USA. There was an actual Sasquatch sighting about 20 miles from where I live & I'm thinking with you and Davey being official Yeti hunters, would love to hike and camp around here. And if no Yeti's appear; not to worry, coz you and Davey can content yourselves with wild wolves, mountain lions and bears with a rattlesnake or two thrown in. I've been to Rothbury, a very quaint and picturesque little village. I've fished at Fontburn Reservoir, but made Kielder Water my camping and fishing headquarters. I always did very well there too, yanking out loads of healthy rainbow trout. But those damned midgies ate me alive. All the best to you mate.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to attend Northumberland College doing an IT course a few years ago, maybe I was there when you were?. There is some good fishing here in Northumberland, haven't fished Fontburn and Kielder for years now, I like small streams and rivers fishing for brown trout, some great sport on light tackle and no midgies like you get at Kielder, they are horrible especially in calm humid conditions. There is evidence of a wildman living in Harwood forest, not far from my home, I've seen possible footprints and heard strange noises through the night, there is definitely something unusual going on and people are seeing things. Good luck with the fishing and hope you see a Sasquatch one day, ATB.

    Camp Yeti sounds good and remember to bring some mash to go with the meat balls, and if Sasquatch makes whoop noises, what noise should I make when I go unicorn hunting ?

      Deep South Experience Thanks Stan, Davey bought the hatchet from a local DIY store, an inexpensive brand not sure which but will ask him and find out for you. Since then he has cut it down, creating the shape it is now which when i first saw it thought it was purchased like that cause he did such a good job with it, ATB, Damian

      +MOUNTAINOUS There is much debate to whether there is a wildman here in the UK but I'm sure they are many bigfoots in North America. • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      blamhof Hi Mick, The roads up there seem ok but not perfect due to the usual lack of investment. We were looking for rock carvings and found faint marks which could be very old, they didn't look like cup and ring marks but were interesting. That whole area around Simonside is rich in history, if only the rocks could speak what tales would they tell?.. and I didn't manage have a number 2 so Davey couldn't groom my stool lol.. this might be a dumb question but is wild camping allowed up there as i would be taking a few friends who wont go unless they know its allowed

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically wild camping is illegal in England unless you have permission from the land owner. That being said it is often tollerated in some areas. So arrive late, leave early and be respectful of the countryside and you shouldn't have any problems. I'm not recommending wild camping as like I said it is possibly illegal so good luck

    • @abomb987
      @abomb987 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this time of year its overgrown with bracken so even the paths are hidden. I pick an area that looks nice from google earth or memory map software and go there. get a decent map or gps and go off track, some of the best places arent on the main pathways. Where we camped at Simonside is at NZ 03131 99137

  • @k956upg

    Fair play if he likes knives & wants to bring them camping he can enjoy it all the more it's not a competition to be practical & compact so when I see people with extra kit or daft Rambo knives I don't judge as its not a lesson it's just a couple of guys with funny accents out having a laugh...
    I'm a big fan of Damien's vids actually.

      I use Google earth to find places to camp, you can switch to street view and see places on the ground, good for finding somewhere to park the car. Technically wild camping in England is illegal but is tollerated in some areas like nationl parks, always arrive late, leave early and leave no trace.

    Do you have a video on how you made that awesome saw?

      TJack You'll have to ask Davey, I'm sure he didn't film it but may explain how he did it. Its a nice concept for a survival situation, its genius is in its simplicity

    Nice vid, but I totally fail to see the attraction of tarps, they provide little protection against insects & bad weather. L/W double skinned tent for me every time, put up in minutes, & no trees needed (or available on the mountains).

      You are right about tarps not providing total shelter against bugs and bad weather but for the style of camping I do tarps with a bivy combined suit me fine because its a shelter system which is lightweight and compact, I'm not usually up a mountain in extreme conditions so don't need a tent. Bugs don't bother me and once I'm in a bivy bag with the opening cinched right closed, most bugs dont get in so I'm ok with swatting the occassional midgie that was lucky/unfortunate to find its way into my shelter lol.. Make a fist, then bend the wrist/ That is what a fern looks like when it comes out of the ground. They are edible. Snap them off at the ground. Boil them. rinse, boil, rinse, boil. Eat. Only have to boil them for about a minute each boil. Eat with rice.

      Fiddleheads may be edible and in a survival situation I wont hesitate, but bracken/ferns are linked to cancer in a study done, so I'm careful what I eat. ATB
