Actually the first review that makes sense. I heard so much bla, bla on camera quality, sound and so on. No one actually used the Surface Duo for what it was designed for. Thanks.
This is the phone for me, just bought it! Can't wait for all that screen real estate. ❤️ Not into photography, so camera doesn't bother me. Multi tasking is where I'm at.
Ahh finally a Duo reviewer who gets it. I live inside OneNote, Teams, MS Office, and what you are demoing is exactly the kind of functionality the potential Duo buyers are looking for. And thank you for not having done the usual camera tests that other reviewers have done ad nausea-um
This is one thing a lot of reviewers miss. It's a pretty big selling point. I'm interested in note taking but I wanna know if that gap would bother you at all while drawing
Interesting and informative review. Looking at this device through the lens of art while still touching on its other features demos a lot of what makes this device great for certain use cases. Glad to see a part 2 with viewers questions as well!
I bought my slim pen with my even although I felt the design was a bit wonky compared to previous pens. Mainly, it was the reviews that showed it had cleaner lines and faster response. Once I got it, held it, worked with it. it doesn't feel bad at all. I did get annoyed when it stopped working, but then I figured out that, unlike the other pens, this one needs to be charged.
Thanks for the video. Really informative. I want to buy this smartphone but I wasn't sure if the drawing experience was good enough. Like using references in one screen and drawing in the other.
It's not just a phone. No one at Microsoft said SurfaceDuo wants to be a phone. So please don't see it as a phone. It's a pioneer of a whole new era of mobile computing. It deserves a new category, right? For me the era of "smart"phones is over. That name was quite wrong when you look at the usage. How much do you actually use the phone functions compare to all that light computing stuff? It's time for something new in mobile computing.
@@TMdigital24 true. Well I use a Windows tablet as main computer and sometimes at work just a Samsung galaxy note 10 using the Dex Mode. As a illustrator my main use is drawing and windows have been the best system for doing it cause all the programs available and the multiple options of machines but recently I need something like this surface duo cause is like a laptop as you said, but the drawing experience it's not there yet (even surface have a lot of problems giving a smooth drawing experience)
That's pretty cool. I can pic throwing all of your tools option to one side leaving the other side completely bare for drawing. The latency isn't great though. I can already see what gen 2 would look like. Hole punch camera on one side w no bezel. Making the screen to body ratio complete all screen.
I think this is where most reviews missed the mark...you are actually reviewing use case for this particular device and not just opening Instagram and TikTok
I'd like to see if you can help me, way back when tablet pc's were still new I had a fujitsu and the pen came with 2ctypes of nib they allowed for different textures on the screen. One was like drawing on glass the other was like paper. I suspect that the screen protector played a part in this. I really am trying to get that feel back though! Do you have any idea how I can get that feeling of "writing on paper" instead of sliding on glass?
Hey, thanks for your tests. Did you try Sketchbook or artflow ? Is tilt supported by the duo ? I suppose clip studio is not available on it, since it's Galaxy Store exclusive for now ? I plan on using my duo for sketching in the go.
With the folds, you can't even really have a pen because the plastic screen damages with pressure. I do find it odd almost no one has mentioned the pen.
I use OneNote for classes all the time so I was curious how well the pen worked with it! Although I can't really swing it now, this device seems like it would be great for college! I really appreciate your insights on it!
Thanks. Really considering Duo for drawing and pen use. If you plan on covering more drawing apps, could you check Autodesk Sketchbook and Concepts app?
I'm a little bit disappointed, Samsung actually ended up working with clip studio in order to produce a Galaxy store application and preparation for its Galaxy Tab, from the initial announcement I understood that it was going to have the Google framework but I had the impression that it was going to be able to run some desktop applications. Clip studio would probably be the most optimized, you can have all your tools and even a second flipped canvas on one side and then your actual drawing canvas on the other.
I don't think it would have taken that much more effort it would have just been hey you have this Android compatible version can we bring it forward with the top customization that you would on desktop
a little bit but not a lot, when i was using one note it is about a 40% chance a hand or finger movement will be read instead of a pen stroke, thats my day 1 impression im sure there can be software adjustments to help with it tho
In one way its amazing this is even possible. On the other hand as someone who uses tablets with pens al the time it seems to me you are not working that comfortably. My guess is ipad/pencil and a seperate phone is still the smarter way of doing things.
For the life of me, I have no idea why Microsoft stick with ntrig. @$1000+ I would expect such a device to have way better line quality without software aids. Pretty sure they could buy up one of the Chinese alternative manufacturers for far less and use their EMR to produce much better products.
They bought n-trig, and besides some art nerds like us, the surface pro is popular enough not warranting a real update. It’s a total wast though. Imagine the surface studio with a digitiser comparable to Wacom
@@sloppynyuszi - Microsoft have also bought and divested a whole lot of businesses and products so it won't be a loss. You are totally correct that the surface pro is popular AND I've read that 90% of surface owners don't even use their pens so there's not a whole lot of incentive for them to improve. Just why so many artists look at Surface products though is beyond me - they are not worth it for shoddy technology. It's like this video - "an inking review" - well we know it's going to be crap because it's ntrig so why make the video?
Ibis paint x is especially bad because of post processing I assume. See right at 8:00 to see it compared to one note. One Note is significantly faster.
I would avoid this device purely for drawing and note taking using stylus. Honestly every smartphone/tablet from 2019 on word has the same smoothness as the duo, what differentiate good drawing device is low latency, which this device clearly doesn't have, I'd buy a iPad pro or galaxy tab s6 anyday for drawing and note taking.
What some people will do to justify in their mind spending US $ 1500. I can't believe people are actually throwing down this amount of money, on such a poorly specced piece of hardware. This is obviously an extremely sleek and beautiful piece of technology. But, if you bought this for drawing/painting art, then you were dudded. This is a piece of junk as far as art is concerned. Fancy trying to compare it to a Note 20 Ultra. This is a pretty play thing, whose limitations will become obvious very quickly. I can envision a busy second-hand market in the very near future. Too wide to be a comfortable phone, and far too much hinge preventing it from being a good tablet. $1500? I hope you get your money's worth, but I very much doubt it. You are being sucked in by the glitz, and fawning TH-camrs. The next iteration may be a real winner, but this one is strictly a concept piece, beautifully constructed, but made with some cheap and outdated internals. It is quite premature in it's release, and will probably go the way of the dodo, to join its stable-mate, the also sleek and beautiful Surface Pro X.
Because it was announced when they were JUST coming in. Use some critical thinking skills man. It still has to still not be an insane price, the battery has to last and the people who want this dont necessarily value high refresh rate. And the biggest factor is its first gen. Its not gonna have all the bells and whistles until Microsoft figures out the duo at its core level.
Actually the first review that makes sense. I heard so much bla, bla on camera quality, sound and so on. No one actually used the Surface Duo for what it was designed for. Thanks.
Right!
This is the phone for me, just bought it!
Can't wait for all that screen real estate. ❤️

Your truly right but if the Duo Had an Pixel Quality Camera it'll be the phone of the decade, then again it is the phone for the decade
Ahh finally a Duo reviewer who gets it. I live inside OneNote, Teams, MS Office, and what you are demoing is exactly the kind of functionality the potential Duo buyers are looking for. And thank you for not having done the usual camera tests that other reviewers have done ad nausea-um
thank you for drawing over the hinge
Four reviews and this is the first one that even mentioned art, the whole reason I was interested in it. Hahahahahahahha
Great to hear you're actually pumped
Have a nice week

Thanks for the informative review. Bought Ibis Paint based on your recommendation. Works great with the slim pen. Thanks again.
Thank you for covering this. You've got a new sub. Now it can do what my Fold can't.
This is good to know. I'd been wondering how good this would be for drawing. I like the Note series, but hate the curved screen edges.
I'll certainly avoid this device for taking note and drawing
You can use the eraser on the end of the Surface pens to erase.
When you do your review can you test apps like clip studio paint and sketchbook pro?

Do you know if ArtFlow registers the pen as a stylus for Pen Only mode?
See here: th-cam.com/video/EtdLBHu4aEI/w-d-xo.html
Great video - really useful. Thanks!
Wow, great demo!
Question, does the Surface Duo support HDMI output like the Galaxy Note via USB-C adapter? Nice video, very informative!
Yes.

My brain did a sparky thing when he immediately inked from one app to another. I don't think I've ever seen this anywhere else in my life.

Feels like putting menus on left side is better for right handed people

cbutters Tech thank you my friend. Appreciate your time doing that. Subscribed.
What about turning the pen to erase?
Actually to erase you just turn the pen to the bottom and it automatically erases on the slim pen.
can you try nomad sculpt on it pls?
Could you please do a video on note taking

Thanks for doing this video. This device isn't up to par. And the weirdness while using the pen, just doesn't cut if
I would like to see how ArtFlow works. Good job man.
See new video with update on that app here: th-cam.com/video/EtdLBHu4aEI/w-d-xo.html
A bit laggy while drawing a line but acceptable. I tried to draw on phone but feel very uncomfortable.
Doesn't the slim pen have an eraser on the back?🤔
Yep, it does.
the back of the pen should work as an eraser
It surely does: See new video with update on those apps here: th-cam.com/video/EtdLBHu4aEI/w-d-xo.html

SO, it is just like every other tablet, just smaller
Input lag should be measured by hour instead of ms!
The latency!! really microsoft?
Want samsung buy the Hinges frome Microsoft and Luanch Samsung Galaxy tab pocket in next year.
only samsung phone tablet do the drawing stuff well
holy lag man, is the response as bad as it shows in the video?
Ibis paint x is especially bad because of post processing I assume. See right at 8:00 to see it compared to one note. One Note is significantly faster.
I think sketchbook works fine

Wow I can see the lag/latency of the pen! Worst!
Latency looks really bad
Wait for Neo son.

why are these 60 fps? ffs? Good way to chew data for what reason other than looking terrible?
