This is fascinating! I have been watching In The Know for a long time, and in the nicest possible way, I had no idea Ross was so knowledgeable😂! I love the full week of ITK previews when it comes to Royal Ascot, going to pay special attention to Ross’s tips when it comes to those 2yo and 3yo races👌🏻
13:50 I’ve been saying the same thing for ages, but I doubt myself because trainers will call handicappers to question why their horse has been weighted, say, 5lbs too much. And I’m thinking, how does that impact a horse that weighs 1000lbs? Can someone please explain this to me?
Think this is the first interview of all these on this podcast were someone has actually given an insight into their methods that others punters can actually use..Yes these interviews are interesting but how many truly give away their secrets to help others ?
None of them appart from Ross...probably cuz they are selling tips or speed figures or systems the lot of them. Everything I've learnt about racing I've mostly learnt myself tbh. I was lucky enough to have worked in betting shops so had time to sit and watch alot of what goes on with betters and ask afew questions here and there to winning bettors . That helped but u can't really teach it your gotta learn by trial and error unfortunately. I've been betting since the mid 1990s and I'm still learning tbh.
@@TomLeach-dd8cl The only approach you can have is 'still learning'. The moment you stop you might as well give up, until you realise you're re-learning the same lessons over and over again!
Most people I think are scared of giving away their 'edge', or they have a vested interest in keeping their methods a secret, that's true. I personally think the game would be much richer if we all talked and shared information. Tech companies have all ballooned in knowledge through competing and learning from each other, why not racing too?
@rossreverenceracing I think it would be great if there was speed figures for every track easily obtainable. Like in the states , where virtually all the handicapping punters do is by beyer speed figures. But then again we don't want the noobies ruining the prices do we lol
@@TomLeach-dd8cl The other info we need is weight of the horse , as per greyhounds. I'm cynical as to why we don't get that as the trainers MUST know the horses optimal fitness / blood count / fighting weight but it's not shared.
I've always struggled with speed. Especially when you get a 2yo maiden suddenly breaking a track record or similar when that same track also holds Group races or top handicaps. Makes little sense to me.
Like that horse last season who won at ripon running the fastest time figure in 10 years then ran at Royal ascot and was crap! Can't remember the name ...asadna or something like that
But that's where figures come in. Good speed figures convert time into usable metrics. Asadna, as an example, did a 90 on my figures at Ripon, then ran to an 86 on mine at Ascot and an 83 next time out. He was clearly suited by the set up of the race on debut, enabling him to put in a peak performance, but struggled to replicate that performance in a big field in a very different race at Ascot and then at a flatter, more galloping track at Newbury, but he didn't regress too much. And there's a LOT that goes into achieving a fast time, not just quality of the race
@@rossreverenceracing Thanks for reply. Your example of Usain Bolt isn't a good comparison imo as UB would always run over exactly 100 metres in a straight line - only wind speed would make a genuine difference to his performance ( excl injury etc) . Horse distances change , course layouts vary, sometimes stall positions change, going is somewhat not an exact science. Very different info. It's impressive that you use it successfully. I do agree about weight. I've never believed a horse can " feel " it's carrying 3 pound more weight than last time. I read somewhere that a horse running over 1 mile can lose a stone in sweat.
@rossreverenceracing I don't know if that particular horse has ever won another race has it? I think jumping on a horse after 1 very good figure is kinda ridiculous tbh . Do u prefer to see a horse do a similar figure afew times before u take the figures litterly ? Speed figures I do use but they only make up a small % of my handicapping tbh .
@@johnristheanswerthe other reason Bolt's not a great example is because weight tends to be a bigger factor in handicaps. If Bolt was a horse he'd be running in group 1s with no penalties so weight is largely irrelevant save for weight for age and allowances for the females.
Always said that race replays are the biggest thing to make you a better punter, if you can get away from just watching the one at the front you will see so much more. I know one of the BHA handicapper and he has to watch the replays, but the about of “watch this horse” he can give you then in a rewatch you can see it was unlucky etc
Ross , do a book eh ? Go on . Mordin on time is like £60 second hand . By the way , I’ll never forget your Benson over hedges joke . Laughed again typing this message .
So he is a pro punter who works as a presenter on the Racing Post you tube channel which barely gets 2K viewers and he is selling what exactly here....?
Poor Tom has a real hard upcoming decision. Which date between now and Epsom Oaks day does he leave his house and take his dog for a walk? My book on it is as follows: May 25 (Cup Final day) 4/6 May 27 (Spring Bank Holiday) 7/4 May 19 (Premier League final day) 4/1 May 18 (Lockinge day/Fury v Usyk) 8/1 May 30 (just before In The Know) 12/1 May 31/June 1 (Oaks/Derby Days) 50/1
Seems more confused than daffy duck. I wouldn't mind being his bookmaker. Sounds like Andy Holding.. Says a lot but makes no sense.. I bet they are friends. Lol.
I bet you, from Ross's previous successes that his bookmaker does mind being his bookmaker, for precisely the reasons you state. I don't know Andy Holding, but both you and his bookmaker have fallen in the trap. Let's just say Ross has been laughing all the way to the bank.😊😊😊

Agree. Quite rare an excellent presenter knowing at least as much as the guests. I would advise people to watch this more than once.
