    This sketch is right up there with the Parrot one and Four Candles ....... a genuine contender for the best sketch of its generation.

      James Casey, Eli Woods and Roy Hudd - Sunderland, 1984 0503am 1.9.22 he knew his stuff re :music hall. another chap to ask might be michael grade - if yer researching the old music hall. as for this... cool. still; i wonder how such and act would work these days... do we have double acts these days? - there only seems to be vic & bob. anyhow; i think i last saw roy hudd featured in a dennis potter play...

    RIP James Casey, a great comedy writer, and excellent performer. You did your Dad proud.

    Terribly sorry to hear that James Casey has passed away, he was a marvellous BBC producer (The Clitheroe Kid et al), and did a very good replication of his legendary dad,
    Jimmy James, who I will worship forever. Great to know that Eli is alive-and-kicking;
    my having met him when they played Wolverhampton a few years back with James, and Eli, plus the late Ray Allen on the box. Wonderful sketch, timeless memories.

    I saw Roy live in a one man show about 'music hall'. He was brilliant. He went through the acts of some of the best comedians that had been, it was like watching them! Very funny & took me by surprise!

    Great sketch, I can still remember bits from Jimmy Jamess 50s TV shows. Thanks so much for posting it, the lines are just as funny today. But, as I am sure James Casey would have agreed, you can see how much more his father would have got out of them. Jimmy James had the greatest comic timing I have ever seen.

    Now THAT is timing, that "fast piece".....and get one for me punch line was spectacular lol. Wonderful to see, thank god Roy kept these acts safe for us, we would have missed so much. You tube is amazing for seeing some of the greats, TV never had a lot of time for them. Great job by the sun and eli is brilliant as usual

    Wonderfully anarchic stuff at the end, and I love the meandering 'chip chopper' stuff before that!

    Some of today's so called comedians could learn a lot from watching this.

    Shame Sid Field died comparatively young in 1949 or 1950, certainly was underated in my humble opinion

    Apart from admire Max Miller what has Roy Hudd ever acheived?
    What was the act that made him fanous?
    It makes the Water Rats seem a bit futile.
    He has no act. ONLY STATUS! For what?

      @@gtaylor331 News Huddlines (esp Christmas Specials) Roy was the main link between the last of the Music Hall (1950s) to the TV Age of the 70s and 80s via Film and Radio.

      Completely wrong and totally uncalled for. Roy Hudd is a talented performer in his own right and has kept the memory of music hall alive.
