Well normally you sit the rookie behind your franchise QB you’re about to replace. You don’t go get both the same year then you’re just wasting money. You want to rookie to sit at the end of the Vet’s contract so you arnt doubling up.
Also for Penix specifically he is a lot older than the other rookies. He is 24 league average is 21-22 years old for a rookie QB. So sitting him is a lot more of a gamble due to age. Just all and all a very weird not normal situation.

@@mynumberoneguy2125 are the Falcons dumb for paying $60mm this year and wrapping up $30mm next year?
      Yes.

They are throwing away the massive salary cap benefit of drafting a top prospective rookie QB by spending all of their savings on Kirk Cousins. If they think that highly of Penix they should have gotten a much cheaper backup like Minshew, Fields, etc.

Remember when the draft class with Trevor , Zack Wilson, Trey Lance , Mack jones, Justin fields, their all Backup Now except Trevor Lawrence! How many Cj strouds come into the league and succeed the first season !!! Let it go Ritch stop throwing these kids to the Sharks destroying their confidence and careers because of a rookie contracts , remember when rookie contacts in the 1st round was Much more (JaMarcus Russell era ) so penix is a Actual value these days!!

Really Rich is hard to understand what is hard to understand is why the Jets don’t draft a qb this year
Cousins fa move responds to the following.
    2017
    81
Rookie contract WR. Rb. Te. Of unknown quality.
Penix draft is a similar qb to cousin undeveloped.
Cousins maybe out by year 3.
And responds to 68 and 66.
Relevancy is as important as anything in the NFL.
ATL cost. In comparison to other teams is low cost when looking at the room.

Atlanta could have drafted odunze, who most likely will be a star, they could have traded down and gotten multiple stud defensive players even the two best corners in the draft. Could have helped so much but instead got someone who maybe 3 or 4 years down the road might play well and help a totally different team.

Dont matter if you are "rebuilding" we have seen coaches get fired after 1 season. Division not the best, they could literally get to the playoffs then hand the baton off to Penix if he shows he is that guy. Should they have paid Kirk all that money? No. But the playoffs will make you forget all of this. He is also 36 coming off achilles.

Tray Lance cost SF three (3) 1st round picks (and their 3rd overall) but Penix burns just one 1st rounder to cheaply play behind a gimpy 35+ year old who is not expected to take the #1 reps in practice, and gets valuable experience. Yet, SF burns 3 1sts on Tray Lance who had little college experience and only eye brows are raised? In contrast; invest a single pick in a great QB prospect and go bat crap crazy! The protect the cap/owner's money for a team not one player away from the Superbowl us ABSURD!

Drafting A defensive player isn’t a guarantee, literally atl was in Cap hell for 3 yrs and was competitive … there isn’t a formula there are experts saying What they would do but we don’t know. Listen They got their future and present, but the “ideal “ Way but this how they want to play it .. If they win. I don’t wanna hear nothing. If they lose .. they been losing lol.
