I never commented this in case it would come off as toxic, but I've felt this show was missing Mariel too much. The other two brought their own style but Mariel and Barb were always the cookie halves of the oreo
So sitting here after watching the episode, this was like the old episodes where it feels like they've been friends since grade school and they can relate to each other so much easier. The recent episodes feel like I'm watching an after work department happy hour where everyone is just enjoying the free drinks and are glad to go back to their separate lives when done

Nice to have Mariel back if only for the one episode. It's wonderful to hear people speak with such love, Barbara speaking about Trevor, Hannah speaking about Dan, and Mariel talking about her wife Hannah... and Taylor Swift. 😂

Oh my goodness. I have loved and missed seeing Mariel and hannah in content. Always Open was a source of comfort through some tough times in my life and it makes my heart so warm to see you all reunited on camera again. Fingers crossed for some Tyler Coe, Miles, and Ellie appearances in the future

I loved Hannah talking about her baby. I had my first baby last year, and although I didn't have the "blues" as bad as it sounds she did, mine lasted longer than "normal" but never got near PPD thankfully. It was so nice to hear her talk about it, because she's right, people don't talk about it! And we don't have the type of communities our grandmothers had, with lots of experienced women who have recently or are going through the same thing. I'm literally the only person in my close friends group with a baby, both my grandmothers are passed, and it's been 30 years since my mom had me and my brother, so while I could turn to my mom and friends, they didn't understand what I was going through. We need more online voices talking about this stuff, because it can really help a first time mom out there that's going through it and is scared and confused.

MARIEL AND HANNAH! Man, I'm so hyped. Crazy to think this show started in 2016, because it feels so close but also COMPLETELY ALIEN to me. This is definitely the energy of me and my oldest friends when we get together; we may not have seen each other in person for a year (or three, yeesh) but when we're together we hop right back into it.
I'm in tears, I've missed Mariel so much. I love their dynamic. Made my whole week

To Mariel's comment that your old life is dead or over or gone forever I think yes, and no.
As a new father (I know my experience is not the same as a new mother and that I have had it a million times easier than she has by actually CREATING A CHILD IN HER BODY, but my wife and I have had this conversation and talk at length often about the struggle to feel like our old selves with our old life) I don't think your old self has to be dead completely. I think absolutely parts of your old self are dead, and you certainly have new responsibilities as a parent, but the same can be said about marriage or any relationship. I know there are many parts of my single life that I mourned for a time as dead and gone, because now I had another human who I had to consider in my choices. My life wasn't my own anymore.
So yes, when you become a parent your life isn't your own anymore, and you should consider how your thoughts, words, and actions will affect and mold the new young life that is a part of yours, but my wife and I believe it is important to make time for your old self. Prune the parts that are dead and gone for good reason, but remember to put time and effort into the life and relationship that GAVE you that new life (assuming the child/ren you have are by choice and not due to less savory circumstances).
My wife and I also always talked prior to having our son about how many children we wanted (I wanted 10 😅) but after having our first child we are in agreement that we may only ever have one. Not because he's a lot or too much or we're miserable, but because we value the life we had built and imagined for our future. We want to share that vision WITH him, not change that vision BECAUSE OF him.
So parts of our old selves are dead, but we are also choosing to only have one child so we can bring all the best parts of those old lives with us and share them with him. It sounds selfish when you say, "I don't want more kids because I don't want to give up my dreams for them," but we genuinely believe that our child will have a more fruitful and beneficial life BECAUSE we aren't going to change our long term plans or goals.
I just want to say thank you to Hannah for being so honest about post partum. I also have the same view about being honest, I struggled so much after birth and always want to be open to people if they are struggling that they know they’re not alone. Also I got the same “oh it’s day 3 the baby blues are always the worst at this point” and I remember telling the nurses in hospital that this was not that and I needed help.
What a return to the show for Mariel Salcedo and her presence was indeed missed and I appreciate you having her back on the show and Hannah is a nice delight to have back also with her lovely stories and sageful advice. To me, Always Open is indeed a lively and wise show with its many talented guests and topics, and I do hope that Mariel can return sometimes here and there and just be herself and living her best life and enjoying all of the Taylor Swift

Omg I loved this episode. I listen to always open on podcast but had to hop over here just to say this episode hit hard. I had a kid 2 years ago and this episode made me feel seen. I currently have no friends because I was so tired I didn't talk to anyone unless they called me because 1 of them said all I talked about was the baby so I stopped talking to people. Now I have moments of ppd still. Its hard. But im slowly finding my new self
