Sigh I hear people say "Dont treat them like children." You aren't. You are triggering a memory path in their brain that brings back happiness. Thats a good thing
My 15 year old dog has just died, I am more than devastated. I can't face the pain of getting another dog, Jennie would be ideal for me because I am so lonely as my husband died 11 years ago
I thought about that as well but I bought one anyway. The benefits out weight the negatives and There will always be someone around to change batteries. I'm thinking of telling my Mom we just need to put batteries in it and it's not real. I'm sure she will be still confused but happy when her companion is recharged and looking for attention :-) Wish me luck Krystal
@@krystalharwood6359 I gave it to her and she loves it. She new it was not real and said to me she can't believe how real it looks. When the dog barks and looks for attention my Mom responds and gets so much joy from it. A simple good luck would have done Krystal
to those concerned about the battery issue and "death or passing out in front of the seniors", i'd assume the app has a battery consumption tracker or some battery warning thing to let the staff know on the app to avoid that very issue also, if the staff know how long the battery lasts on average, again they can plan accordingly and make sure they take the pup away before he "passes out" shall we say. just my thoughts on it.
When your young getting older never enters your mind. People who have real animals are always faced with the loss of a pet. I have sent many animals to the Lord over the years. I think this puppy can bring so much joy especially for seniors. As technology continues to evolve I believe there will be AI robotic companion animals as well as for people with disabilities. It's difficult when someone has limitations. If we live long enough we never know what will happen to us mentally and physically. If it makes someone happy and comforted isn't that all that should matter.
"We worry about things from an ethics perspective." They're at the end of their life. These particular seniors have Dementia. Some have Alzheimer's. Let them believe it's real.
Hello, is this available and does anybody know where I could get this darling lil pup? I'm caregiving for a family friend with dementia. I think this doggie could really help her. Thank you! ❤
Best comment 🤣 I’m personally too young for one of these but I would get one just because I love technology and robotics. If only they had a bird though.
@@Darenz-cg9zg I would want something that looks like one because I can't have one, being able to experience this and making it walk would be pretty cool. Eccpecially to people who feel lonely or depressed or maybe even stressed.
Jasmine, Tombot puppies are for anyone who cannot safely or practically care for a live animal. We are in development on clinical studies involving a wide range of patient populations, such as adults and children with autism, depression, PTSD, anxiety, mobility challenges, etc. We hope to bring comfort and love to as many people as possible!
I think it's great for people with dementia. They can touch and pet the dog and won't be able to hurt him accidentally. But as longest as people have their mind together, it can't replace an real animal. On the other hand we love stuffed animals too and this one is real cute for sure.
Beautiful intensions great outcome use a voice commands prompt to allow them to communicate to the dog in different languages with sophisticated psychological & social behavior patterns enabling the company to adapt with audio recordings to further enhance the capabilities would be nice to see.
This robot dog reminds me of the Joy For All robot animals. Joy For All robots are made for the same purpose so that’s why I see the similarities but the Joy For All robots are a bit older and are cheaper. Although, I’m pretty sure they’re still made now.
we need more robotic pets!!! they would help us reduce animal neglect and abuse and reduce pet overpopulation and baby animal deaths in the big cities that are born on the nasty sweltering streets to malnourished mothers💔
I'm all for helping people but no... I don't see why an elder could not have a dog around as long as it is in a medicalized facility with staff who can make sure the dogs don't starve to death and have their needs answered. There's a lot of calm and relax senior dogs who would be great matches for this seniors. In extreme cases, where an animal is REALLY not a possibility, why not?
They answered that in the video mate. Taking care of a dog, is added work. Its not fee-sable for every person in an old age home to have a dog. But a robo dog yes.
@@draken5379 You might be right. I still struggle with the idea but if it helps, why not. I just got the feeling that a senior dog who has been trained properly would be a far better choice for a Retirement home but I understand this might help if people still leave by themselves.
for dementia patients is useful AAI (Animal Assisted Intervention) with dogs and this animals are trained for doing the best job, always with their trainer Some patients need to be removed frome the therapy for illness, allergies to dog or stressful behavior; maybe use a robot could be great for this persons. Also, the dog could be stressed, you need to control them always and you need to care about the dog and the patient This pet maybe is the best compromised and we could use both, dog and robotic pet Sorry if i made some mistakes, I'm Italian and my English isn't very good
what is unethical is promoting the idea that animals are objects and passing them out like candy, ignoring the truth that they and their offspring will die from neglect because most human beings dont guve them the dignity they deserve as living sentient beings
They're not promoting the idea that animals are objects. This is a robot, much like a toy dog. They're for people with dementia so they can experience the joy of a dog and companionship without the worry of an actual animal needing cared for. This is so people who unfortunately get to this point DON'T get a pet they cannot take care of.
Oh No, it's Jenny!!! You've got to be kidding me. Please tell me, you guys are not for real. Because I wouldn't buy one, unless I wanted it for my dog to hump. Why are these people thinking that a plastic robot can help them? It's beyond me. Look! Get a real living dog, not something from a broken planet, like Blade Runner. If she could at least walk, she would even regain my respect. lol
You obviously don't live with someone who has dementia or understand the illness. I do understand what you're saying though. I thought the same way and was sceptical.

Pretty sure the intents behind the comments are about how people speak to the patients not about the memory triggering robot.

the only thing i would be worried about is the patient would think its so real, if it ran out of batteries, they would probably say ''It's dead!''
