- A teacher is asked to be a superhero using a special alien suit with powers he can barely understand or control, after losing the instruction manual. He is aided by a Government Agent. Along with his lawyer girlfriend, they together figure out not only how to control the suit, but to right wrongs. Very great show!!

his superpower is the ability to remain somewhat memorable after a relatively short run on TV.
RIP MR. Cannell!!! This will always be among my favorite TV Shows of all time! :) Classic take on comic-book heroism!
Believe it or not, this was one of the best shows in the early 80's. Very inspirational too.
Honestly. Why is this not a film franchise? There's a huge audience for it. The fact 21 Jump Street gets a movie while this continues to be ignored is a tragedy.
At the very least bring it back to tv with a new series. Continuing with Hinkley passing the suit on to a new hero. I'd watch it.
SentryUSMG With the recent Superhero TV Craze, a semi-serious superhero show like this would fit right in! I say bring it to CBS this fall!
+rofyle I think there have been attempts at a film and it's never been able to get off the ground (no pun intended). Hopefully if they ever do make a movie of it they won't be making fun of it like they did with 21 Jump Street.

Once in the late 90s with Adam Sandler attached to play him, and within the last few years, I heard Nathan Fillion was trying to get it off the ground.
Robert Culp's performance as Bill Maxwell was priceless. One of my fav actors.

Surprising one of the major 80's action shows with a monologue intro but yet again it did a great theme music.

I love this theme song! It is so beautiful! Tv shows these days hardly have theme songs anymore...and when they do, they don't come close to this. 80s theme songs were the most amazing ever...and still are!

Why can't we have cool shows like this anymore? I used to love this show when I was a kid, but you can't even find it in syndication anymore.
you could say the show and character was meant to be a polar opposite to SUPERMAN because he's Blonde has a Red suit instead and has no idea how to use his powers[ he doesn't fly so much as he just jumps over very low buildings and collides into whatever happens to stop him!!] but the show was all the more endearing just for that reason Cheers!!

+pvtrichter88 Unlike a lot of other silly shows, this one had a heart. You could identify with Ralph... a average guy and his struggles trying to balance his personal life , his work as a teacher and crazy situations he gets drags into by Maxwell.
I think the last season he found the book on how to use his powers, not sure

Some parallels with Welcome Back Kotter...white-guy afro, teacher for "challenging" kids, Connie Seleca type gal. I guess the similarities end there because I don't recall Kotter fighting crime with a suit given to him by aliens (with subsequent loss of instruction manual). Oh well...

I wasn't alive when this show was on, but my mom loved it, and we only had 1 t.v. at the time, so she watch re-runs. I hated it when I was too young to appreciate it, now I can't get enough! lol

Awesome show. I watched the marathon on Sci-Fi Channel. Brought back a lot of memories. I loved this show when I was a kid. Great chemistry from the cast and sharp dialog.

I had never heard of this show before a few weeks ago when Syfy had an all day marathon and my mother put it on. I now love this series so much! Great idea for a series. The superhero doesn't fight super villains, just normal bad guys.

This to me was the most amuzing show of the 80's with an impressive theme song by Joey Scarbury. Very much apart of my generation. I will forever miss the 80's.

The fact that they lost the manual was the most interesting twist to any superhero story ever! It added a whole other dimension to the show that needed to be there.

What can I say? I was a kid in the 80s so naturally "The Greatest American Hero" was "Must See TV" for me. Been thinking about this show & I'm going to try and see if Netflix or HuluPlus or even Amazon have it streaming. Nevertheless, the show brought me here and it was great hearing this song. Loved it then and still love it. Just a good song that makes you happy.
