As several people have said, this was the theme from "The Greatest American Hero" TV show which was about a guy who got a suit from aliens that gave him super powers (a LOT of them) when he has it on. The problem was, he lost the instruction book. Being a comic book fan I loved the show as a kid (I think I was about eight at the time) and every time I hear this song I immediately think about the show. Joey Scarbury was a one-hit wonder if I recall correctly. Also, that is Andy Gibb and the lady is Marilyn McCoo from The 5th Dimension and as a duo with her husband Billy Davis Jr., this is from the show "Solid Gold".
Do you remember the scene where he trying to fly and it took a little kid to tell him to take 3 steps just like superman does. Loved that show, wish it got reruns

My favorite type of superhero character. "Believe it or not I'm walkin' on air....flyin' away on a wing and a prayer.." That fits the character perfectly.

The TV show came out in '81 and I was 13, one of my favorite shows. At 17 I moved to Los Angeles in the mid 80's and got a job as a waiter in Malibu, the lead of the show, WIlliam Katt was the first celebrity I waited on
