What a beautiful house and garden Peter. Madame Alfred is certainly one of the biggest I’ve seen , so is new dawn. The roses are space out perfectly. Mines just mumble and jumble everywhere.
Hi Ken and thanks for your comments. Your 'Mumble Jumble' looks lovely. There's no design in my garden; it's just a case of where can I put that? Plenty of stuff that shouldn't be there too. P.
I wish that we lived nearer to each other Peter as I'd love you to help me with my pruning techniques! I'm getting better than I was but there's still a lot of room for improvement. I have the pink version of "New Dawn" which holds special memories as my grandparents had one in their garden. The smell always transports me back there. I must look out for the red version. Hope you've been enjoying the sunshine. It's really brought all of our gardens along. I'm like you and have lots of pots that need watering. I can find that a chore if I'm not in the right frame of mind.
Hi Wendy and thanks for your comments. I'm not sure I have a techniquie as every rose is different. I just try things and see what happens. Guess I'm lucky most of the time. I find my 'Old Blush China' a bit of an enigma. It is a bit difficult to fathom out but somehow it does flower well. The 'Red New Dawn' again doesn't grow like the 'Pink New Dawn' or flower quite like it. I can't remember it has much of a scent, unlike 'Pink New Dawn'. I'll have to refresh my memory shortly. I suppose what I can say about pruning roses is they are very forgiving. As far as watering goes I suppose it's a case of no pain no gain. Just look at the end result. I guess I'll put another video up shortly. P.
Hi again, Yes she/they certainly are lovely. I guess they like living here. They never stop flowering, even if you don't dead head them. They are planted on two different elevations of the house and run into one another. One was planted in 2006 and the other in 2008. All my planting dates are in the video on my Channel under, 'Climbing Roses -Pruned. 12th Feb'24 - a few months agao. Cheers! P.
