I first heard this song at the lowest point of my life, after my father's suicide. It gave me the will and, frankly, the balls to stand up and reestablish my position in life. There is no band on earth who brings to the table what these guys can.

The HU, a band send by the heavens.

Oh, so that's why Temka didn't talk about his tattoo. He was getting one for the first time. It's rather cool that they were all going in together on that! Thanks again for the upload and translations!

I’ve always had a respect for the Mongolian People, the first I learned of Chinggis Khaan in history class I was fascinated, then as the years have gone by other things in life took my attention from it. This year (2022) I ran across their Video “The Great Chinggis Khaan” then “Wolf Totem”….it not only renewed my fascination with Mongolia and it’s culture, but practically got me obsessed with it.
I understood Wolf Totem (I think) right away, it’s not about rebellion or anarchy, it’s not about overcoming hardships. It’s a Golden Horde Warchant/Poem, from I believe the 12th century?
The World’s history teaches that Ghengis Khaan was a brutal and mean Dictator, but it’s not exactly true, he was kind and compassionate, only brutal when he had to be.
The more I learn about the Mongolian culture, especially from the time of Chinggis Khaan, the more I like it. It speaks to me on many levels, it speaks to the Cherokee in me as well as the Soldier in me (I’m a US Army Cold War Veteran). I’m 56 years old and poor, but wish I could move to Mongolia and live the rest of my days with the Nomadic tribes

Vet here, also (USAF), though of an older generation and with a bit of Paiute on the distaff side. 🤝 I, too, am a huge fan of The HU, ever since they first performed here in Texas in 2019 and stayed with some folks living just a few miles down the road from me in Hays County.
Regarding The HU's "Wolf Totem" song, as you may know, the lyrics derive from an early 17thC poem written by Mongolian Prince Tsogt-Khun-Taij (1581-1637), a descendant of Chinggis Khaan. The words are metaphorical, of course, and stress the importance of defending one's values and territory.
As for nomadic life in Mongolia today, I strongly recommend an award-winning 2004 film, which originally was intended to be a straightforward documentary. However, the directors were so charmed by the Mongolian family they were following that they ended up making their work into an actual movie! It's available with on-screen English subtitles at archive.org/details/TheStoryOfTheWeepingCamel. Next best thing to being there!

Helen Galloway I haven’t seen Odko’s tattoo. I saw Temka’s tattoo one of their interview from American tattoo channel. He has a tattoo represents his family seal (or tribe?) in green.

@@oyunaaaaaaaa No, I meant it sounds like "Hataa" or "Khataa" to an English speaker. I'm sure it's correct in Mongolian!

    • @oyunaaaaaaaa

entulista too Pronouncing Galaa is first letter “g” sounds more like “ge” in “game”, and middle letter “l” sounds more like “la” in “land”
