Please react to Rekha Bhardwaj and Usha Uthup's song 'Darling' from Saath Khoon Maaf. Rekha Bhardwaj is another Alto singer. FYI the '-up' in Uthup is pronounced just like you would pronounce 'up' in English. 😀 Both Usha and Rekha are very underrated singers only because their voices are not feminine according to many producers. People feel that female playback singers should always be sopranos to suit the actress.
Met Usha ma'am at an airport two years ago and this woman is a gem. She's the epitome of grace, class, and master artistry. She makes you feel like you are one of her grandkids and she gives the warmest and the sweetest hugs. If you get her talking about food she wouldn't stop talking for hours haha. Absolutely love this legend!
Thank you so much the both of you for your love and support and your appreciation . Means the world to me really .. love you .. and god bless I have been singing for 53 years .. and you guessed right I started as a night club singer Absolutely LIVE .. love you very much .❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

By the way, Usha Uthup is solely credited for promoting and expanding Western music in India on so many levels. God bless her for many years to come. She has a 'rock star' status in Bengal today. Opinion from Kolkata.
I've had the privilege of working with Usha Uthup a couple of times - once on a live concert - and I can say with absolute certainty - she is INCREDIBLE. She's so full of life and funny and carefree. She has lived a full life rich with music and culture and she has stories that she can keep you regaled with for hours. But more than that, what's amazing about her is that she's forever keen to learn something new. Her concerts are basically parties with everyone just going crazy.
I grew listening her sings in 80s and she was the Disco Queen of India. God bless her for providing so many good moments to kids like me in 80s. She is still going great.
@EKLAVYA PRATHABHA VARMA there is a culture of leg pulling in north in general, people can be racist/colourist towards their own friends and family and making fun of one another is the norm. @EKLAVYA PRATHABHA VARMA I assure you that’s not what most of us indulge but rural population isn’t well verse with the western universalism, and the fact that you want to Determine the foundations of all cultures on your whims and fancies speaks volumes about your individual character.
@EKLAVYA PRATHABHA VARMA if you want to believe that no one can't stop you.most of North India think you guys are much more intelligent and think south India is more clean. Also most of north India think you guys present our culture in your movies than Bollywood
On vocal complexity for Usha, "Skyfall" falls around 20% of complexity. She is absolutely capable of singing much more complex songs. Western songs just don't provide the challenge for Indians singers to show their vocal capacity...
That’s very debatable. Indian singers and a lot of western singers uses very different skill sets. There are a plenty of western sons with almost impossible to sing. You just gotta find it. Not the widespread auto tuned ones recently lol,
Why are Indians like this cringe 🙄. Adele is not all that Western music has to offer. She's considered a very average singer in comparison to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald.
@@wasabi307 Pretty true..but still there are singers in the world who can sing songs by Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and so on. Western style of music is way different from Indian, and nobody deserves to undermine the legends from Western music industry. But the thing is western singers cannot sing Indian classical songs, not bcz of their inefficiency, but bcz of lack of technical knowledge. Whereas, classical musicians from India can do all those without extensive training. As someone who has learnt Indian classical music as well as received some basic training in Western classical, I can assure you Western music is comparatively much easier. And by saying that, I don't intend to say that Indian classical music is superior or something. Just the technical aspects are harder.
@@wasabi307 i find most western music to be pretty easy tbh. The "impossible" songs someone spoke of... 1. MJ is one. Still unmatched in vocal Quality. 2. That era is over. You guys are spot on! Usha started singing from her late teens/ early 20s in nightclubs. Shes completely untrained, She learned it all from gigs and night club appearances. She did make a mark in bollywood playback singing, but she was never consistently utlizied as a main heroines voice.
Listening to her voice I realised that singing is for all, as someone who listened to only 70s 60s music and my parents idolised Lataji , Kavita ji growing up, I thought my voice is not good. My mom made me listen to her songs and many such singers, I didn’t end up learning music professionally, but I look forward to.

She has the magnetic personality that she can pull any one from 8 to 80 to the dance floor! She started her musical journey in a nightclub called Trincas in Kolkata and they recently celebrated 50 years of Usha..Kolkata has always been a breeding ground for jazz and blues singer in the 70s and with Usha there was Pam Crane also..
My goodness you guys make me sing and play. Awesome , you guys are and your reactions , review , podcast , music class , whatever it is , it's so great. I love you guys 💕
Usha has a certain uniqueness in Indian music, because as a stage performer she is not only a good singer but also an excellent showman, whose rapport with the audience is total
U missed the beginning of the this vdo where she was telling how she has to face difficulties bcz she is singing western songs but wears Indian traditonal attire. Once she was asked to sing on a cruise but later replaced by a japanese singer I guess coz her clothes dont match her singing style. And the skyfall song for james bond is where she originally recorded the song but later again she was replaced with some hollywood singer. Basically what is tryin to say is that she never received proper opportunities either bcz of her looks or bcz she is not a big name in hollywood even though she is an amazng singer and that is why she is showing her gratitude to the audience for the love and support she receives from her Indian fans especially. She is a very humble, fun loving and lovely women... Whenevr she is a guest on any reality show and contestant sing her songs she showers them with so much love that u will be super impressed with her genuineness...
Usha Uthup is a legend. She is a master when it comes to rich baritone voice. Only other singer that I could think of is Richa Sharma. Richa still can't match the baritone Usha Uthup possesses however she is a phenomenal singer. You can react to Richa Sharmas songs as well like Maahi Ve from the movie Kaante or Sajda from My name is khan. React to her liver performances to know her potential
Super Mom of Indian music. Her original name i believe is Usha Iyer. Moved to West Bengal and transformed into what she is today. Blend of East and West at its very best. It can't get any better than this
She is the first Indian women singer introduced western and Club and disco songs etc apart from Indian main streams. She is very talented and very humble. I have met Usha mam in bangalore, in one of the fan based concert organized by one of the mall from Bangalore
You're very right in saying that she grew up performing live. From her teenage she has been travelling and performing.. she used to do jazz and disco parties in all of Asia from a young age.
Usha Uthup is one of the legendary singers from India. She had sung many songs in Bollywood as well. She is mainly known as a pop singer. She is also a huge admirer of our nation's Nightingale Late Lataji Mangeshkar. Even Lataji had admired Ushaji very much. Unfortunately we lost Lataji in last month.
Usha Uttup was an early adaptor of Western music into Indian culture, its one of the many reasons I believe she hasn't had the same level of success as some other with her gifted voice and talent because she went a little against the grain. However I am coming from a north indian perspective and haven't seen in her perform in a lot of Bollywood movies, Dosto Se Pyar Kiya from Shaan being the only significant song that I remember of hers in Bollywood, she possibly made more of an impact on the Southern scene which I am wholly ignorant on. If so then she deserves much more success because her unique style and mastery of her voice made me wish she had been more popular with the Northern Indian audience.
Efra pronounced her name close enough. Uthup is pronounced u-thu-pp-uh. It's a south Indian (Kerala) Syriac Christian name. Comes from Greek Stephanos (Stephen). Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Usha Uttap are sisters. They are all legends and altogether have sung over hundred thousand songs. They started playback singing during the era of black and white movies and Lata Mangeshkar sang her last professional song in, I think, 2014.
There is some racism towards south Indians, partly because we have on average darker skin (which is associated with lower caste status in most of India) but also because we are culturally and linguistically different. The major language families in India are Indo-European in the north and Dravidian in the south. Tamil is the purest Dravidian language left and perhaps the only Dravidian language which takes pride in its own roots, resisting the historical supremacism of Indo-European Sanskrit as a religious language. My own Dravidian language (Malayalam-Kerala) is similar to Tamil but went through a period of deliberate Sanskritization of the vocabulary known as the Manipravalam period.

Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Usha Uttap are sisters. They are all legends and altogether have sung over hundred thousand songs. They started playback singing during the era of black and white movies and Lata Mangeshkar sang her last professional song in, I think, 2014.
She is alien in music industry 😍😍.. In a good way
She is the undisputed legend of indian music.
South Indians rule the world it's the fact.. if u see any Indian shining abroad it's south Indian
React to enodu nee irunthal song. It's a tamil ( language) song. Sung by sid sriram and composed by AR RAHMAN
Usha Uthup is one of the best vocal asset India has ever produced....right from 1969...
